Technical Performance
The FMS 80mm F-86 Sabre Fuselage represents a carefully engineered RC airframe designed for intermediate to advanced pilots seeking authentic scale appearance with reliable performance characteristics. The 80mm designation refers to the motor opening diameter, which accommodates standard 80mm electric ducted fan (EDF) motors commonly used in modern RC jet aircraft. The fuselage construction utilises quality materials throughout, with a focus on achieving the right balance between structural strength and weight efficiency — critical factors for achieving stable flight characteristics and predictable handling. The design is based on decades of RC jet design evolution, incorporating lessons learned from countless flight hours and pilot feedback. The fuselage-only approach means builders have complete control over their total aircraft weight, power-to-weight ratio, and overall performance envelope. The authentic F-86 Sabre profile ensures excellent aerodynamic stability whilst maintaining the visual appeal that makes jet flying so rewarding. Builders can configure this airframe with various motor sizes, battery capacities, and electronic components to suit their desired flight profile, whether that's leisurely scale cruising or dynamic aerobatic performance. The construction quality of FMS aircraft is recognised across the UK RC community as providing excellent value and longevity.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the FMS 80mm F-86 Sabre Fuselage suitable for beginner RC pilots? — This fuselage is best suited to intermediate and advanced RC pilots who have experience building RC aircraft and configuring electronics. Jet aircraft require more skill to fly than trainers or conventional aircraft, and the fuselage-only format means you'll need to source and install all components yourself. If you're new to RC flying, you may benefit from starting with a ready-to-fly trainer aircraft first.
- What motor size do I need for the 80mm fuselage? — The 80mm designation refers to the motor opening, so you'll need an 80mm electric motor. Popular choices include 80mm EDF units, though specific recommendations depend on your desired thrust-to-weight ratio and flying style. Check FMS specifications or consult with experienced RC jet builders in UK RC clubs for specific motor recommendations.
- What battery will this aircraft need? — Battery selection depends entirely on your motor choice, ESC rating, and desired flight time. Many 80mm RC jets operate on 2S or 3S LiPo batteries, though higher-power configurations may use 4S systems. You should consult motor and ESC specifications to determine suitable battery voltage and capacity for your build.
- Can I fly this aircraft at UK RC clubs? — Yes, RC jet aircraft are flown at many UK RC clubs and flying fields. Always check with your local club about their rules regarding jet aircraft, as some sites have specific requirements or restrictions. You'll typically need insurance and should ensure your field has adequate space for jet operations, including proper landing areas and safety zones.
- What is the difference between the 'The Huff' variant and other F-86 options? — 'The Huff' is a specific paint scheme variant that features a distinctive colour and marking pattern, distinguishing it visually from other available colour options. The underlying fuselage construction is identical, so the choice is purely aesthetic based on which scheme you prefer.
- How long does an 80mm RC jet typically fly? — Flight times vary significantly based on motor efficiency, battery capacity, weight, and flying style, but 80mm jets typically achieve 10-20 minutes of flight time per battery. Cruising at reduced throttle generally extends flight time, whilst aggressive flying reduces it.
- Do I need to join an RC club to fly this aircraft? — Whilst not absolutely required, joining a recognised RC club is strongly recommended. You'll gain access to appropriate flying fields, insurance coverage, expert advice, and a community of fellow enthusiasts. Most UK clubs welcome jet pilots and can provide invaluable support.
