Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — This pinion is manufactured from premium hardened steel specifically chosen for its superior toughness and durability, ensuring it can withstand the extreme forces and stresses encountered during competitive racing and heavy use without premature wear or failure.
  • CNC Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Each tooth is precision-machined using state-of-the-art CNC equipment, guaranteeing perfect tooth shaping and unparalleled concentricity that eliminates run-out and ensures vibration-free operation, protecting your bearings and maximising efficiency.
  • Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — The advanced manufacturing process creates teeth with ultra-precise geometry, ensuring smooth meshing with your spur gear and eliminating the clicking, noise and vibration that can reduce performance and damage components.
  • Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — Because this pinion is manufactured to the tightest tolerances on a special gear machine, it runs perfectly true, delivering smooth, quiet operation that translates directly into better handling and more efficient power transfer to your wheels.
  • MOD1 Standard Module Pitch — The MOD1 module specification ensures compatibility with all cars equipped with MOD1 gears, making this a universal upgrade option for 1/8 scale RC vehicles and giving you maximum flexibility when tuning your drivetrain.
  • 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed specifically for 5mm motor shafts, this pinion fits all standard RC brushless motors used in 1/8 scale racing, making installation straightforward without the need for adaptors or modifications.
  • Easy Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth number for quick and easy identification, eliminating any guesswork when selecting the correct gear ratio and speeding up setup at the track or workshop.
  • Made in Europe — This pinion is proudly manufactured in Europe to exacting standards, ensuring you receive a product that meets the highest quality benchmarks and supports ethical manufacturing practices.
  • Perfect for All Track Conditions — Available in all gearing sizes through the Corally range, you can precisely tune your gear ratio to suit any track surface, ambient temperature or driving style, from tight technical courses to high-speed carpet tracks.

Technical Performance

The Corally M1.0 Pinion Short represents the very best in modern gear manufacturing technology, combining advanced materials science with precision engineering to deliver a component that performs flawlessly in the most demanding conditions. This 25-tooth pinion is manufactured from special hardened steel that has been specifically selected and treated to provide maximum strength and durability, ensuring it can handle the extreme rotational forces and stresses encountered in competitive 1/8 scale RC racing without stripping, chipping or wearing prematurely. The CNC cutting process used in production guarantees perfect tooth geometry and unparalleled concentricity, eliminating the microscopic run-out and deflection that can cause vibration, noise and power loss. With a module pitch of MOD1, a tooth count of 25, and a 5mm motor shaft diameter, this pinion integrates seamlessly with standard 1/8 scale brushless motors and MOD1 spur gears, allowing you to build a drivetrain with optimal efficiency and reliability. The gear features a teeth width of 6.20mm and an overall length of 13mm, making it compact and lightweight while maintaining robust strength. The 2.0mm hex key requirement for installation means you can secure it quickly and safely using standard tools. Every pinion undergoes rigorous quality control to ensure it meets Team Corally's demanding specifications, so you can have complete confidence in its performance whether you're preparing for a major race or enjoying casual weekend driving with your RC car.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an MOD1 pinion gear and why does it matter for my RC car? — MOD1 refers to the module pitch of the gear, which is the standard measurement system used to define gear tooth size and shape. MOD1 gears are designed to mesh perfectly with MOD1 spur gears and are the industry standard for 1/8 scale RC buggies and trucks. Using the correct module ensures smooth, efficient power transfer and prevents gear damage caused by misalignment or incompatible tooth profiles.
  • How many teeth should my RC pinion gear have? — The tooth count you choose determines your final gear ratio and affects both acceleration and top speed. A 25-tooth pinion is a popular mid-range choice that balances acceleration with top-end speed, making it ideal for mixed track layouts with both technical sections and straights. Lower tooth counts (such as 23T or 24T) give faster acceleration but lower top speed, whilst higher tooth counts (such as 26T or 27T) reduce acceleration but increase top speed.
  • What is the difference between hardened steel and standard steel pinions? — Hardened steel has been treated through a special heat treatment process to increase its hardness and durability, making it significantly more resistant to wear, chipping and stripping. This extended lifespan and improved reliability make hardened steel pinions the preferred choice for competitive racers and anyone who wants maximum durability from their RC car components.
  • Will this pinion gear fit my RC motor? — This pinion is designed for 5mm motor shafts and MOD1 gearing systems used in 1/8 scale RC cars. If your vehicle uses a different shaft diameter or gear module, you'll need to choose a different pinion. Consult your vehicle manual or contact our team at RC Model Shop for compatibility advice if you're unsure.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — The durability of this hardened steel pinion means it should last considerably longer than standard gears with proper maintenance. However, the lifespan depends on factors such as driving intensity, track conditions and maintenance practices. Inspect your pinion regularly for signs of wear, chipping or stripped teeth, and replace it if you notice any damage that could affect performance or cause subsequent damage to your spur gear.
  • How do I install this pinion gear? — The Corally pinion installs on your motor shaft using a 2.0mm hex key to tighten the set screw. Slide the pinion onto the 5mm motor shaft, align it with your spur gear so there's proper mesh with no binding, then tighten the set screw securely. Use a small amount of thread-locking compound (such as Loctite) on the set screw to prevent it from loosening during aggressive driving.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this pinion is suitable for any RC car user, it's primarily designed for experienced racers and enthusiasts who understand gear ratios and drivetrain tuning. Beginners should ensure they understand their vehicle's current gear ratio before changing pinions, as an incorrect ratio can lead to overheating or underperformance. We recommend consulting with our knowledgeable team at RC Model Shop if you're new to gear tuning.
  • What makes Corally pinions better than other brands? — Corally's reputation for manufacturing excellence is built on rigorous quality control, advanced CNC manufacturing processes and premium material selection. Each pinion features ultra-precise tooth shaping, perfect concentricity and ultra-true running characteristics that minimise vibration and maximise efficiency, translating into better performance and longer component lifespan compared to lesser-quality alternatives.
