Overview
The Traxxas Gear, 25-T pinion (1.0 metric pitch) is an essential performance upgrade component for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK. Whether you're running an electric RC car, buggy, or truck, this precision-engineered pinion gear allows you to fine-tune your model's performance characteristics to suit your specific driving conditions and preferences. Traxxas pinion gears are manufactured to exacting standards, ensuring perfect compatibility with Traxxas vehicles and maintaining the reliability you expect from this globally recognised brand.
Gearing is one of the most effective ways to optimise your RC model's acceleration and top speed balance. By changing gear ratios, you can adapt your setup for different terrains, track layouts, and driving styles. The 25-tooth configuration in this pinion gear provides a specific ratio that works in harmony with steel spur gears to deliver predictable performance. This product is designed for RC hobbyists who understand the importance of drivetrain optimisation and want to unlock the full potential of their Traxxas RC vehicles.
Available now from RC Model Shop, this Traxxas pinion gear comes with everything you need to install it on your 5mm motor shaft. For UK-based RC enthusiasts looking to upgrade their models with genuine Traxxas components, this is a must-have addition to your spare parts collection.
Key Features
- 25-Tooth Configuration — This specific tooth count works with steel spur gears to create a precise gear ratio that balances acceleration and top speed. The 25-tooth pinion is a popular choice for many Traxxas models and driving conditions, making it versatile for both casual bashers and competitive racers across the UK.
- 1.0 Metric Pitch (Mod) — The 1.0 metric pitch specification ensures this gear meshes perfectly with compatible Traxxas steel spur gears. This standardised pitch is essential for smooth power delivery, reduced noise, and extended drivetrain lifespan. Mismatched pitches can cause poor performance and premature wear, making this metric an important consideration.
- 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — This pinion gear is specifically designed to fit 5mm motor shafts, a common standard across many Traxxas electric RC models. The precision bore ensures a secure fit and reliable power transmission from your motor to the drivetrain without slippage or wobbling.
- Included Set Screw — The pinion gear comes with a set screw for secure fastening to your motor shaft. This prevents the gear from rotating independently of the motor and ensures consistent gearing performance during acceleration, cornering, and deceleration. Proper installation of the set screw is crucial for reliable operation.
- Steel Spur Gear Compatibility — This pinion is engineered exclusively for use with steel spur gears. Steel spur gears offer superior durability and longevity compared to plastic alternatives, making this combination ideal for high-performance driving and racing applications where reliability is paramount.
- Performance Tuning Capability — By swapping different pinion teeth counts, you can adjust your RC model's performance characteristics. A lower tooth count increases top speed but reduces acceleration, whilst a higher tooth count improves acceleration at the cost of top speed. This pinion gear enables precise performance tuning to match your driving style and track conditions.
- Genuine Traxxas Engineering — This is an authentic Traxxas component manufactured to the brand's exacting quality standards. Using genuine Traxxas parts ensures compatibility, reliability, and consistent performance across your RC vehicle fleet.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas 25-tooth pinion gear represents precision engineering in RC drivetrain components. Manufactured from durable material, this gear is designed to withstand the demands of regular RC car use whilst maintaining precise tooth engagement with your steel spur gear. The 1.0 metric pitch specification is critical for smooth, efficient power transmission. When properly installed with the included set screw onto your 5mm motor shaft, this pinion gear delivers the gear ratio needed to optimise your model's performance across a range of Traxxas RC vehicles. The pairing of this pinion with a steel spur gear creates a robust drivetrain system that can handle both casual weekend bashing and competitive racing scenarios. Steel spur gears are notably more durable than plastic alternatives, resisting wear and maintaining precise tooth geometry through extended use. This combination ensures that power from your brushless or brushed motor is transferred efficiently to the wheels, maximising battery performance and extending runtime. The modular design allows RC enthusiasts to experiment with different pinion configurations, helping you discover the ideal gearing for your specific model and driving conditions. Consult your Traxxas model's owner's manual for recommended gearing options tailored to your vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why would I need to change it? — A pinion gear is the small gear that attaches to your motor shaft and meshes with the larger spur gear in your RC model's drivetrain. By changing the pinion gear tooth count, you adjust your vehicle's gear ratio, which directly affects the balance between acceleration and top speed. A 25-tooth pinion is a mid-range option that many RC enthusiasts choose for general-purpose driving. If you want more top speed, you'd choose a lower tooth count (like 20 or 22 teeth). If you want stronger acceleration, you'd choose a higher tooth count (like 27 or 29 teeth). Different track layouts and driving styles benefit from different gear ratios.
- Is this pinion gear suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a quality Traxxas component, pinion gear selection and installation is typically undertaken by RC enthusiasts who already understand how gear ratios affect performance. If you're new to RC and unsure which pinion teeth count suits your model, we recommend consulting your vehicle's manual or contacting our experienced RC Model Shop team for guidance on the best gearing for your specific model and driving style.
- Will this work with my Traxxas RC model? — This 25-tooth pinion gear with 1.0 metric pitch and 5mm shaft bore is compatible with many Traxxas electric RC models. However, compatibility varies by model. Always consult your specific vehicle's owner's manual for the recommended pinion options and confirm that your model uses 5mm motor shafts and steel spur gears before purchasing.
- What's the difference between different tooth counts? — Lower tooth count pinions (20-22 teeth) increase top speed but reduce acceleration. Higher tooth count pinions (27-29 teeth) improve acceleration but reduce top speed. The 25-tooth pinion sits in the middle of this range, offering a balanced compromise. Your choice depends on whether you prioritise speed, acceleration, or a balanced setup, as well as your specific model and track conditions.
- Why must this be used only with steel spur gears? — This pinion is engineered specifically for use with steel spur gears, which have different tooth geometry and durability characteristics compared to plastic spur gears. Using this pinion with plastic spur gears could result in poor mesh, excessive wear, noise, and potential drivetrain damage. Always confirm your spur gear material matches the recommended steel specification.
- How do I install the set screw? — The set screw fastens the pinion gear to your 5mm motor shaft, preventing rotation. The set screw should be tightened firmly but not over-tightened, as this can damage the motor shaft. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for specific installation torque specifications and procedures. The set screw must be seated flush or slightly proud of the gear hub.
