Overview

The Corally 48 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 23 Teeth 5MM (C-72423) is a precision engineered motor pinion gear designed for RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and performance from their radio controlled vehicles. Whether you're running a competitive RC car, a weekend basher, or fine-tuning your existing setup, this hardened steel pinion offers the durability and consistency you need for consistent performance on track or off-road. As part of Corally's comprehensive range of transmission components, this pinion gear represents professional-grade engineering that RC hobbyists across the UK have come to trust for both racing and recreational use.

This 48 DP pinion is engineered specifically for drivers who want to optimise their vehicle's gearing for their particular driving style and track conditions. The 23-tooth configuration provides a balanced approach to acceleration and top speed, making it suitable for a wide range of RC car applications. With hardened steel construction, this pinion delivers superior wear resistance and longevity compared to standard alternatives, ensuring your investment in RC equipment pays dividends over many hours of driving. Whether you're upgrading your existing RC car or building a new setup from scratch, the Corally 48 DP pinion is an essential component for serious RC enthusiasts.

Corally's reputation for manufacturing high-quality RC components is well-established in the hobby. Their pinion gears are recognised for precision machining, consistent tooth profiles, and materials that withstand the rigours of both competitive racing and recreational bashing. The 5mm bore size ensures compatibility with a wide range of brushless and brushed motors commonly found in modern RC cars, making this an accessible upgrade or replacement option for most RC setups available in the UK market.

Key Features

  • Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from hardened steel, which provides exceptional durability and resistance to wear compared to softer materials. This means your pinion will maintain its tooth profile longer, resulting in smoother engagement with your spur gear and more consistent performance over extended use.
  • 48 DP Gear Pitch — The 48 DP specification indicates the gear pitch standard used in this pinion. This ensures compatibility with other 48 DP gears and allows you to choose from a comprehensive range of tooth options to fine-tune your RC car's performance characteristics to match your driving style and track conditions.
  • 23-Tooth Configuration — With 23 teeth, this pinion provides a balanced gearing option that delivers a good compromise between acceleration and top speed, making it versatile enough for various driving scenarios and suitable for multiple vehicle types in the RC car hobby.
  • 5MM Bore Size — The 5mm bore diameter is the standard size for most modern brushless and brushed motor shafts, ensuring broad compatibility with the vast majority of RC motors available to UK enthusiasts without requiring adapters or modifications.
  • Short Profile Design — The short profile of this pinion minimises weight while maintaining structural integrity, contributing to improved acceleration characteristics and reduced strain on your drivetrain components during aggressive driving.
  • Precision Machining — Corally's manufacturing process ensures each pinion is precisely machined with consistent tooth profiles, guaranteeing reliable engagement with your spur gear and smooth power delivery throughout your driving sessions.

Technical Performance

The Corally 48 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 23 Teeth 5MM represents professional-grade transmission engineering tailored for RC car enthusiasts who understand the importance of drivetrain precision. The 48 DP specification is widely used across competitive and recreational RC vehicles, and the 23-tooth count positions this pinion as a versatile choice for drivers seeking balanced performance. Hardened steel construction elevates this component above standard alternatives, offering superior longevity and resistance to the tooth wear that occurs during power transmission from motor to wheels. The 5mm bore ensures seamless integration with contemporary brushless motor designs that dominate the modern RC car market, whilst the short profile design minimises rotational mass without compromising structural strength. For RC car enthusiasts in the UK, whether competing in organised racing events or enjoying weekend bashing sessions, this pinion delivers the consistency and durability required for reliable performance. The hardened steel material exhibits exceptional fatigue resistance, meaning it can handle repeated acceleration cycles and the torque demands of high-performance driving without degrading. When paired with quality spur gears and a well-maintained drivetrain, this pinion contributes to smooth power delivery, reduced noise, and extended component lifespan—all factors that serious RC hobbyists recognise as essential for getting maximum value from their RC car investments.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What RC cars is the Corally 48 DP 23-tooth pinion compatible with? — This pinion is compatible with any RC car that uses a 5mm motor shaft and accepts 48 DP pinion gears. This includes a wide variety of modern brushless RC cars, electric RC buggies, RC trucks, and other RC vehicles available in the UK market. Always verify your vehicle's specifications before purchasing to ensure compatibility with the 48 DP standard and 5mm bore size.
  • Why choose a hardened steel pinion over standard alternatives? — Hardened steel provides superior durability and wear resistance compared to softer materials like aluminium or standard steel. This means your pinion will maintain its tooth profile for longer, resulting in smoother engagement with your spur gear, more consistent performance, and ultimately better value for money over the lifetime of your RC car.
  • How does the 23-tooth configuration affect my RC car's performance? — The 23-tooth pinion offers a balanced approach to gearing. With more teeth than lower-count options, it provides slightly more top-end speed than a lower-tooth pinion, whilst still offering good acceleration. Choosing the right tooth count depends on your driving style, track conditions, and desired performance characteristics—the 23-tooth option is versatile enough for both racing and recreational use.
  • What is the difference between 48 DP and other gear pitch standards? — DP (diametral pitch) indicates the number of teeth per inch of pitch diameter. 48 DP gears are finer-pitched than 32 DP alternatives, resulting in more teeth for a given diameter, which allows for more precise gearing options and smoother power transmission. Different RC vehicles use different DP standards, so always verify your vehicle's requirements before purchasing.
  • Can I use this pinion as a replacement for my existing pinion? — Yes, if your RC car currently uses 48 DP pinion gears with a 5mm bore. This pinion can serve as a direct replacement, and switching to a 23-tooth option may alter your vehicle's performance characteristics compared to your previous gearing setup. This can be beneficial if you're seeking to optimise your vehicle's performance for specific driving conditions.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a quality component, beginners should first understand their RC vehicle's specifications and the role of pinion gearing in performance. Once you're familiar with your setup, upgrading to Corally's hardened steel pinions is an excellent way to improve reliability and performance. We recommend consulting your vehicle's manual or contacting RC Model Shop for guidance if you're unsure about compatibility.
