This specialised component is manufactured by Team Corally, a recognised leader in RC vehicle components, and represents the essential upgrade path for anyone running a 32 DP gear system on their RC car. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning your vehicle's performance, a weekend basher looking to replace worn components, or an RC car UK hobbyist building your first custom setup, this pinion gear delivers the concentricity and tooth precision that separates professional-grade equipment from budget alternatives.

Pinion gears are a critical drivetrain component in RC vehicles, directly affecting acceleration, top speed, and overall handling characteristics. The gear ratio you choose determines how your motor's power is translated into wheel rotation—selecting the right pinion tooth count for your track or terrain is fundamental to optimising your RC car's performance. This 13-tooth pinion is engineered for specific applications where you need moderate acceleration with controlled top speed, making it ideal for various track conditions and driving styles across the UK RC racing scene.

What sets the Corally C-71513 apart from generic alternatives is its manufacturing pedigree and material science. Every pinion is CNC-cut on specialised gear machinery with ultra-precise tooth shaping, ultra-true running characteristics, and vibration-free operation as standard. The hardened steel construction ensures longevity under the stresses of competitive driving, whilst the exact 3.17mm motor shaft diameter guarantees a perfect fit for compatible Corally RTR vehicles and drivetrain systems.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from specially selected and hardened steel, providing superior toughness and durability compared to standard materials. This hardening process increases the gear's resistance to wear, deformation, and tooth stripping, extending component lifespan significantly during intensive driving sessions and competitive use.
  • CNC-Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Each tooth is precision-cut on specialised CNC gear machinery, ensuring absolutely perfect tooth geometry and concentricity. This eliminates run-out and vibration that can occur with lower-quality pinions, resulting in smoother, quieter operation and more efficient power transfer from motor to drivetrain.
  • Ultra-Precise Manufacturing Tolerances — Team Corally's manufacturing process maintains exceptionally tight tolerances on every dimension, guaranteeing that every pinion functions identically and meshes perfectly with your spur gear. This consistency is essential for achieving predictable, reliable performance across multiple vehicles or during vehicle rebuilds.
  • Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — The precision manufacturing process ensures that the pinion runs perfectly true within its shaft, eliminating vibration and noise that can indicate worn or poorly manufactured gears. Smooth operation translates to longer component lifespan, better motor efficiency, and improved overall vehicle handling.
  • 13-Tooth Configuration for Balanced Performance — The 13-tooth count provides an optimised balance between acceleration and top speed, making it suitable for a wide range of track conditions and driving styles. This tooth count is particularly effective for standard competition tracks and casual racing environments across the UK.
  • Module 32 DP (Diametral Pitch) Standard — The 32 DP specification ensures compatibility with all vehicles and components designed for 32 DP gearing systems. This is a widely-adopted standard in the RC hobby, meaning your pinion can be used across multiple vehicles and platforms using compatible 32 DP spur gears.
  • Easy Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth number (13T) directly on the gear itself, enabling quick and easy identification during vehicle maintenance, assembly, or when switching between different gear ratios. This feature eliminates confusion and speeds up setup time.
  • Perfect 3.17mm Motor Shaft Fit — The pinion is engineered with an exact 3.17mm bore diameter, ensuring a secure, wobble-free fit on standard motor shafts used in Corally RTR vehicles. This precise fit eliminates play and ensures maximum power transmission efficiency.
  • 4mm Teeth Width — The pinion features a 4mm teeth width, providing adequate surface contact with your spur gear whilst maintaining the compact, lightweight design necessary for balanced RC vehicle dynamics and optimal suspension geometry.
  • Compact 9mm Gear Length — The short 9mm overall length allows for efficient drivetrain packaging without excessive overhang or imbalance. This compact design is critical for maintaining proper weight distribution and handling characteristics in modern RC vehicles.
  • 1.5mm Hex Key Installation — The pinion is secured using a small 1.5mm hex key, making installation, removal, and maintenance straightforward with standard RC hobby tools. This size is perfect for precise, controlled tightening without risk of over-torquing.
  • Made in Europe Quality Standard — Manufactured in Europe to strict quality standards, this pinion benefits from rigorous quality control and production processes. European manufacturing ensures consistency, traceability, and adherence to international standards that far exceed generic import alternatives.

Technical Performance

The Corally 32 DP Pinion represents professional-grade precision engineering applied to a component that directly influences your RC vehicle's performance characteristics. At just 9mm in length and 4mm tooth width, this pinion is engineered for maximum efficiency whilst maintaining a compact footprint essential for modern RC vehicle design. The hardened steel material has been specifically selected for its crystalline structure and hardness rating, providing resistance to the enormous forces generated when a brushless motor drives power through the drivetrain. When a typical brushless motor spins at 25,000 RPM or higher, the pinion teeth experience tremendous repetitive stress as they engage with the spur gear. Inferior materials or poor manufacturing tolerances can lead to tooth stripping, premature wear, and inconsistent performance. The Corally C-71513 uses special hardening processes that increase surface hardness whilst maintaining core flexibility, preventing brittle failure. The CNC cutting process is equally important—each tooth profile is machined to microscopically precise dimensions, ensuring perfect engagement with the spur gear. This eliminates the micro-vibrations and efficiency losses that occur when tooth profiles are slightly out of spec. The 13-tooth count (combined with standard spur gears) produces a gear ratio that provides responsive acceleration without sacrificing top speed, making it versatile for various track layouts and driving styles. The 3.17mm shaft diameter is designed to fit standard brushless motor shafts in compatible vehicles, ensuring a secure, zero-play installation that maximises power transmission. Every aspect of this pinion's engineering—from material selection through final quality inspection—has been refined through years of competitive RC racing experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why do I need to replace it? — The pinion gear is the small gear that attaches directly to your motor shaft and transfers power to the larger spur gear. Pinion gears wear during normal use, and teeth can become damaged through hard impacts, overloading, or mesh misalignment. Replacing a worn pinion restores power transmission efficiency and prevents cascading damage to your spur gear. Additionally, changing pinion tooth count is the primary method for adjusting your vehicle's gear ratio to suit different track conditions—more teeth increase top speed while fewer teeth increase acceleration.
  • Will this pinion fit my RC vehicle? — The Corally C-71513 is compatible with all vehicles designed for 32 DP pinion gears with a 3.17mm motor shaft bore. This includes Team Corally RTR vehicles and other RC cars using standard 32 DP gearing systems. Check your vehicle's specifications to confirm it uses 32 DP gearing and 3.17mm motor shafts before purchasing. If you're unsure, our expert team at RC Model Shop can help you identify the correct pinion for your specific vehicle.
  • What is the difference between hardened steel and standard steel pinions? — Hardened steel pinions undergo a special heat-treatment process that increases their surface hardness and wear resistance significantly. Standard steel gears are softer and wear faster, particularly under the stresses of brushless motor power and competitive driving. Hardened steel pinions last considerably longer, maintain their tooth profile longer, and provide more consistent performance throughout their lifespan. For any serious RC car UK enthusiast, hardened steel is the only sensible choice for durability and reliability.
  • How do I choose between different pinion tooth counts? — Pinion tooth count directly affects your vehicle's acceleration and top speed. Fewer teeth (like this 13T option) prioritise acceleration and responsiveness, whilst more teeth prioritise top speed. Your choice depends on your track layout, vehicle weight, motor KV rating, and driving style. A 13-tooth pinion suits moderate-sized tracks and provides balanced performance for most driving conditions. Our RC Model Shop team can advise you on the optimal pinion tooth count for your specific setup and track.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a premium-quality component, replacing a pinion gear is a straightforward maintenance task suitable for RC hobbyists of all experience levels. Simply remove the circlip or fastener, slide off the old pinion, install the new one, and secure it—no special tools beyond a 1.5mm hex key are required. However, pinions are replacement components rather than complete vehicle systems, so they're purchased by people already actively using RC vehicles. If you're just starting in the RC hobby, you'll need a complete ready-to-run RC vehicle first.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Replacement frequency depends on driving intensity, vehicle maintenance, and whether you maintain proper mesh alignment with your spur gear. Casual drivers might replace a pinion every 12-18 months, whilst competitive racers may change them every few months or after particularly intensive sessions. Inspect your pinion regularly for signs of wear, cracking, or tooth damage. The Corally hardened steel construction extends replacement intervals compared to standard materials.
  • Can I mix and match pinion brands? — We recommend using Team Corally pinions with Corally vehicles and components to ensure optimal compatibility and performance. Whilst 32 DP is a standard specification, slight variations in tooth profile between manufacturers can affect mesh and performance. Using OEM Corally components guarantees perfect compatibility and the precision engineering that gives Corally vehicles their reputation for durability and performance.
