Overview

The Corally M0.6 Pinion Short Hardened Steel 12 Teeth Shaft Dia. 3.17mm (C-71612) is a precision-engineered motor pinion gear designed for RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand performance and reliability from their gear systems. This high-performance pinion is manufactured from special hardened steel and built to exacting standards, making it an essential upgrade or replacement component for Tamiya-compatible RC cars running M0.6 module gears. Whether you're a weekend basher perfecting your RC car setup or a competitive racer fine-tuning gear ratios for optimal track performance, this Corally pinion delivers the precision and durability needed for vibration-free operation and consistent power delivery.

Corally pinions are recognised across the RC hobby in the UK as premium gear components, trusted by drivers who understand that drivetrain quality directly impacts overall vehicle performance. This 12-tooth pinion is part of a complete range of available gearing sizes, allowing you to find the perfect gear ratio to suit your driving conditions and performance goals. The product is manufactured in Europe using advanced CNC machinery and special gear-cutting techniques, ensuring that every pinion meets the highest standards of precision concentricity and tooth accuracy that demanding RC drivers expect.

RC car gearing is fundamental to achieving the right balance between acceleration and top speed, and choosing the correct pinion tooth count is crucial for maximising performance on any given track. This 12-tooth Corally pinion is ideal for drivers looking to achieve aggressive acceleration and tight handling characteristics, particularly suited to smaller track layouts or racing environments where responsive power delivery is advantageous.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from hardened steel specifically chosen for its toughness and durability, ensuring the gear can withstand the stresses of high-performance driving without stripping teeth or suffering premature wear, which is critical for maintaining consistent performance across multiple race sessions or intensive bashing sessions.
  • CNC Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Each tooth is machined on a special gear cutting machine with ultra-precise tooth shaping and positioning, guaranteeing perfect concentricity that eliminates runout issues and vibration during operation, resulting in smoother engagement with spur gears and reduced drivetrain noise.
  • Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — The precision manufacturing process ensures the pinion runs with minimal wobble or runout, which directly translates to quieter operation, reduced strain on bearings and motor shafts, and more efficient power transmission from your motor to the drivetrain.
  • M0.6 Module Compatibility — This pinion is designed specifically for M0.6 module gears, making it fully compatible with all Tamiya-specification RC cars and any aftermarket gears designed to the M0.6 standard, ensuring proper mesh with your spur gear without compatibility issues.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Diameter — The pinion fits standard 3.17mm motor shafts (a common specification for Tamiya-style motors), allowing straightforward installation into most popular RC car builds without requiring shaft adapters or modifications.
  • Tooth Count Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth number (12T in this case) for quick and easy identification, eliminating confusion when managing multiple pinions and ensuring you always install the correct gear ratio for your intended setup.
  • Compact Short Pinion Design — The short profile minimises gear stack width whilst maintaining full tooth engagement, which is beneficial for tight motor pod designs and helps reduce overall drivetrain complexity without compromising strength or durability.
  • Precise Tolerance Engineering — The pinion features precise tolerances throughout, assuring unparalleled concentricity and gear mesh accuracy that experienced RC drivers demand, particularly those competing in UK RC racing events or time-attack competitions.

Technical Performance

The Corally C-71612 12-tooth pinion represents a significant advancement in precision gear manufacturing for the RC hobby. Built from special hardened steel and created using advanced CNC machining processes, this pinion delivers exceptional performance characteristics that RC enthusiasts throughout the UK have come to expect from Corally's product range. The gear pitch specification of M0.6 (metric 0.6 module) is the standard used by Tamiya and compatible with all major aftermarket M0.6 gear systems, making this pinion a versatile choice for upgrading existing vehicles or completing new builds. The 12-tooth configuration provides an aggressive gear ratio suitable for track conditions requiring rapid acceleration and nimble handling response. With a motor shaft diameter of 3.17mm, this pinion accommodates standard Tamiya and compatible motor shafts without modification. The teeth width of 4mm provides adequate material for load distribution and longevity, whilst the overall gear length of 9mm keeps the drivetrain compact. The material selection is particularly important: hardened steel resists tooth stripping and wear far better than standard steel or aluminium alternatives, ensuring your pinion maintains performance across hundreds of running hours. The engineering approach focuses on eliminating vibration through perfect tooth shaping and concentricity, which reduces stress on internal components and extends the life of both the pinion and mating spur gear. For competitive RC drivers in the UK seeking reliable performance, the CNC-cut precision and European manufacturing standards make this an excellent choice for building a high-performance drivetrain.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What RC cars is the Corally M0.6 12-tooth pinion compatible with? — This pinion fits all RC cars designed for M0.6 module gears, which primarily includes Tamiya models and other vehicles using the Tamiya gear standard. The 3.17mm shaft diameter accommodates standard Tamiya and compatible motor shafts. If you're unsure whether your RC car uses M0.6 gears, check your vehicle's manual or contact our RC Model Shop team for compatibility advice.
  • How does a 12-tooth pinion compare to other tooth counts for RC racing? — Gear ratio directly affects your RC car's performance characteristics. A 12-tooth pinion creates an aggressive ratio that prioritises rapid acceleration and responsive handling, making it ideal for tight track layouts or conditions where quick power delivery is advantageous. Higher tooth counts (such as 14T or 15T) provide more top speed but reduce acceleration, whilst lower counts accelerate faster but limit maximum velocity. Your choice should match your track layout and driving style.
  • Why does pinion concentricity matter in RC racing? — Concentricity refers to how perfectly centred the pinion teeth are on the shaft. Poor concentricity causes wobbling or runout during rotation, which creates vibration in the drivetrain, increases noise, reduces efficiency, and accelerates wear on the pinion and spur gear. The Corally C-71612's CNC-cut precision ensures exceptional concentricity, maintaining smooth engagement and optimal power transfer throughout its service life.
  • Is hardened steel better than aluminium for pinion gears? — Yes, hardened steel significantly outperforms aluminium for pinion applications. Steel is substantially harder and more wear-resistant, resisting tooth stripping and deformation under load far better than aluminium. Whilst aluminium is lighter, the durability advantage of hardened steel makes it the superior choice for serious RC drivers, particularly those racing competitively or running multiple intense sessions.
  • How long does a Corally pinion typically last? — With proper maintenance and use appropriate to your track conditions, a hardened steel Corally pinion can provide hundreds of hours of reliable service. Longevity depends on factors including driving style, track surface, spur gear condition, and regular gear mesh checking. Periodic inspection and keeping your spur gear in good condition will maximise pinion lifespan.
  • What is the 1.5mm hex key used for? — The hex key is provided for tightening or adjusting the set screw that secures the pinion onto your motor shaft. Proper set screw tension is essential: too loose allows the pinion to slip, whilst too tight can damage the shaft. Refer to your RC car's manual for correct tightening specifications.
  • Can I use this pinion with non-Tamiya M0.6 gears? — Yes. This pinion is designed to M0.6 module specifications and will work with any aftermarket spur gear manufactured to the same standard, provided the gear materials and quality are comparable. Always verify that your complete gear system is designed for the same module to ensure proper mesh and performance.
