The Corally 32 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 22 Teeth Shaft Dia. 3.17mm (C-71522) is a high-performance motor pinion gear engineered for serious RC enthusiasts and competitive racers across the UK. This precision-manufactured component is essential for anyone looking to fine-tune their RC car's performance, whether you're running a brushless RC buggy, short course truck, or monster truck setup. As a replacement or upgrade pinion, this gear allows you to adjust your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics by altering your overall gear ratio, making it an indispensable part of any racer's toolkit.

Manufactured by Team Corally, a recognised leader in high-quality RC components, this 22-tooth pinion gear is crafted from special hardened steel to withstand the demanding forces of competitive racing and weekend bashing alike. The 32 DP (Diametral Pitch) specification means this pinion is compatible with all RC cars using 32 DP spur gears, giving you flexibility across different vehicle platforms and setups. Whether you're upgrading your existing RC car in the UK or building a new setup from scratch, this pinion delivers the precision engineering and durability that serious RC enthusiasts demand.

The short-length design of this pinion makes it suitable for a wide range of RC applications, and the 3.17mm shaft diameter ensures compatibility with standard brushless and brushed motors commonly found in 1/10 scale RC cars and similar vehicles. Team Corally's commitment to precision manufacturing means you get a pinion gear that runs true, vibration-free, and delivers consistent performance lap after lap.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from specially hardened steel rather than standard aluminium or plastic, providing exceptional durability and resistance to tooth wear during intense racing conditions. This toughness ensures your pinion will maintain its performance characteristics over extended use, protecting your investment and reducing the need for frequent replacements.
  • CNC Cut Teeth for Perfect Concentricity — Every tooth is precision-cut using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining to guarantee perfect tooth shape and spacing. This level of precision ensures minimal backlash and maximum power transfer from your motor to your drivetrain, resulting in smoother acceleration and more predictable handling characteristics on track.
  • Ultra-True Running with Vibration-Free Operation — The tight tolerances and precise manufacturing mean this pinion runs perfectly true, eliminating vibration that can affect handling and introduce unwanted wear into your drivetrain components. For racers and serious bashers, this translates to better traction control and more responsive steering inputs.
  • Easy Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth number for quick and easy identification, making it simple to swap gears, maintain proper inventory in your pit box, or identify which gear ratios you've been running in specific track conditions. This attention to detail reflects Team Corally's understanding of what competitive racers actually need.
  • Available Gear Pitch — 32 DP — The 32 DP specification provides a balanced choice for most 1/10 scale RC cars, offering a good compromise between acceleration and top speed. This pitch is widely used across the RC hobby, making replacement and upgrade gears readily available in the UK market.
  • 22-Tooth Configuration — The 22-tooth count offers a versatile gear ratio suitable for a range of track conditions and driving styles. This tooth count provides a good mid-range option that many racers use as their baseline before experimenting with higher or lower tooth counts to optimise performance for specific conditions.
  • Standard 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — The 3.17mm shaft diameter accommodates the vast majority of brushless and brushed motors used in 1/10 scale RC vehicles, ensuring broad compatibility with popular motor sizes and brands available in the UK RC market.
  • Made in Europe — This pinion is manufactured to exacting European standards, reflecting Team Corally's commitment to quality and reliability. European manufacturing ensures consistent quality control and traceability throughout the production process.
  • Compact Short Length Design — The short-length pinion design reduces overall drivetrain length, which can improve weight distribution and handling characteristics in many RC platforms, whilst still providing adequate tooth engagement with the spur gear for reliable operation.

Technical Performance

The Corally C-71522 pinion gear represents the pinnacle of precision engineering for RC drivetrain systems. Built from specially hardened steel, this component is designed to withstand the extreme stresses encountered in competitive RC racing and aggressive bashing. The 22-tooth configuration paired with the 32 DP specification creates an effective gear ratio that can be fine-tuned with different spur gear combinations to optimise performance for specific track layouts and driving conditions. The 3.17mm shaft diameter accommodates standard brushless motors common in 1/10 scale RC cars, making this a versatile upgrade option for many platforms available in the UK. With dimensions of 9mm in overall gear length and 4mm teeth width, the pinion offers robust tooth engagement whilst maintaining the compact profile necessary for modern RC chassis designs. The hardened steel material ensures exceptional longevity compared to aluminium alternatives, maintaining its precision tooth profile through thousands of acceleration cycles. The CNC-cut teeth guarantee concentricity within extremely tight tolerances, which directly translates to reduced backlash, smoother power delivery, and more predictable vehicle handling. For racers looking to experiment with different gear ratios to optimise acceleration versus top speed, this pinion provides an excellent platform for testing without compromising on build quality or durability. The 1.5mm hex key requirement for installation makes it straightforward to swap in any standard workshop setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does 32 DP mean and why does it matter for my RC car? — DP stands for Diametral Pitch, which is a measurement of gear tooth size and spacing. 32 DP is a common standard in 1/10 scale RC racing, and this pinion is designed to mesh perfectly with all spur gears also rated at 32 DP. Using mismatched pitch gears can cause poor meshing, excessive wear, and drivetrain damage, so ensuring your pinion and spur gear are both 32 DP is essential for reliable operation.
  • How does the tooth count affect my RC car's performance? — The pinion tooth count directly affects your gear ratio. A lower tooth count (like 20T or 21T) provides more acceleration and torque but lower top speed, whilst a higher tooth count (like 23T or 24T) provides better top speed but requires more throttle time to reach peak performance. The 22-tooth configuration of this pinion is a versatile mid-range option that works well in varied track conditions. You can experiment with different pinion teeth counts to find your optimal gear ratio for specific track layouts.
  • Will this pinion fit my RC car? — This pinion will fit any RC car that uses a 3.17mm motor shaft diameter and is designed for 32 DP pinion gears. This specification covers the vast majority of 1/10 scale brushless RC cars and many brushed motor vehicles available in the UK market. However, always confirm your motor shaft diameter before purchasing, as some vehicles use slightly different sizes. Our team at RC Model Shop can help you identify the correct specifications for your specific vehicle.
  • What is the advantage of hardened steel over aluminium pinions? — Hardened steel pinions offer significantly greater durability and resistance to wear compared to aluminium alternatives. Whilst aluminium is lighter, hardened steel maintains its precise tooth geometry through many more acceleration cycles, meaning your pinion will stay true and vibration-free for longer. For competitive racers and serious bashers, the improved longevity and consistency of hardened steel typically outweigh the minor weight penalty, particularly when running high-performance brushless motors.
  • How often do I need to replace my pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and using a quality hardened steel pinion like this one, you can expect excellent service life measured in thousands of race runs or countless weekend bashing sessions. Replacement intervals depend on your driving intensity, motor power, and maintenance practices. Regular inspection for tooth damage and smooth operation will help you identify when replacement is necessary. Keep spare pinions in different tooth counts available so you can quickly swap ratios for different track conditions.
  • What is concentricity and why should I care about it? — Concentricity refers to how perfectly centred the pinion gear is on its shaft. Poor concentricity causes the gear to wobble as it spins, creating vibration that affects handling, reduces efficiency, and accelerates wear on other drivetrain components. The CNC manufacturing process used for this Corally pinion ensures exceptional concentricity, which means smoother operation, better power transfer from your motor, and longer component life across your entire drivetrain system.
  • Can I use this pinion with different spur gear tooth counts? — Yes, the beauty of pinion gears is that you can adjust your overall gear ratio by pairing different pinion teeth counts with different spur gear teeth counts. For example, a smaller spur gear combined with this 22-tooth pinion creates a higher gear ratio for top speed, whilst a larger spur gear creates a lower ratio for acceleration. Always ensure both your pinion and spur gear are rated for 32 DP to maintain proper meshing and avoid drivetrain damage.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement component rather than a complete vehicle, so it's intended for anyone who already has an RC car and understands basic drivetrain maintenance. If you're new to RC, start with a complete Ready to Run RC vehicle and learn about your car's specifications before experimenting with drivetrain upgrades. Once you're familiar with your vehicle, upgrading to quality components like this Corally pinion is an excellent way to optimise performance.
  • Do I need any special tools to install this pinion? — Installation requires only a 1.5mm hex key (Allen key), which is a standard tool found in most RC tool kits. The pinion simply slides onto your motor shaft and is secured with a set screw. If your motor uses a different shaft size or fastening method, consult your motor's documentation or contact our team at RC Model Shop for guidance.
