As a 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) pinion, this component is part of the modular gearing ecosystem that allows you to find the perfect gear ratio for any track condition or driving style. The availability of the C-71425 in all gearing sizes means you can fine-tune your RC car's performance characteristics, whether you're chasing top speed or maximising acceleration for tight, technical courses. This pinion is engineered specifically for 3.17mm motor shafts, making it compatible with a wide range of brushless motors and electric RC cars that use this industry-standard shaft diameter. RC enthusiasts in the UK, from weekend bashers to competitive racers, rely on Corally gears to deliver the consistent, vibration-free performance that translates into faster lap times and more enjoyable driving sessions.
Each pinion is manufactured on a special gear machine with CNC cutting technology and features easy identification markings showing the tooth number for quick recognition. The short profile design provides a compact, lightweight solution without sacrificing the strength needed for demanding RC applications. When you choose the Corally 48 DP Pinion, you're investing in European-made precision engineering that has been proven on tracks and bash courses across the UK.
Key Features
- Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from special hardened steel that resists wear, deformation and tooth stripping, ensuring your gear ratio remains accurate and consistent through extended use, competitive racing and demanding bash sessions on various terrain types.
- CNC Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Every tooth is precision-cut on specialised machinery to deliver ultra-precise tooth shaping and ultra-true running, which eliminates vibration and noise that would otherwise reduce performance and create drivetrain inefficiency in your RC car.
- Module 48 DP Gearing System — The 48 DP pitch specification means this pinion is compatible with a comprehensive range of spur gears in the same pitch, allowing you to experiment with different gear ratios to optimise your RC car's performance for acceleration, top speed or torque delivery depending on your track conditions.
- 25 Tooth Configuration — The 25-tooth count provides a balanced compromise between acceleration and top speed, making this a versatile choice for drivers who want good all-round performance without specialising for one particular characteristic.
- 3.17mm Shaft Diameter — The pinion fits standard 3.17mm motor shafts found on most brushless motors used in RC cars across the UK, ensuring compatibility with your existing setup without requiring shaft adapters or modifications.
- Easy Identification Markings — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth number, allowing you to quickly identify the correct gear ratio at a glance, which is invaluable when managing multiple pinions for different setups or when tuning your RC car at the track.
- Short Profile Design — The compact short profile minimises weight and keeps the drivetrain as efficient as possible whilst maintaining the structural integrity needed for reliable operation under the stresses of racing and bashing.
- European Manufacturing Quality — Made in Europe with precision tolerances and quality control that assures unparalleled concentricity, this pinion represents the high manufacturing standards that UK RC enthusiasts expect from premium drivetrain components.
Technical Performance
The Corally C-71425 pinion gear represents the pinnacle of precision engineering for RC car drivetrains. Manufactured from special hardened steel with CNC-cut teeth, this component delivers the kind of accuracy and durability that makes a real difference in how your RC car performs, whether you're racing competitively or bashing casually. The 48 DP pitch specification aligns with a comprehensive ecosystem of compatible spur gears, giving you the flexibility to fine-tune your gear ratio for any track condition or driving style. With 25 teeth, a shaft diameter of 3.17mm and a gear length of 9.00mm, this pinion integrates seamlessly into most brushless motor setups used in modern electric RC cars across the UK. The teeth width of 4.00mm provides adequate surface area for reliable power transfer whilst maintaining a lightweight profile. Installation is straightforward using the included 1.5mm hex key, and the clear tooth number markings ensure you always know exactly which ratio you're running. The special hardened steel material resists wear that would gradually degrade tooth profiles during repeated use, maintaining consistent mesh engagement with your spur gear and preserving smooth, vibration-free operation through countless hours of driving. The ultra-precise tooth shaping and ultra-true running characteristics are the result of manufacturing on specialised gear machines designed specifically for RC application, eliminating the vibration and noise that inferior pinions would introduce into your drivetrain.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a 48 DP pinion gear and why does it matter for my RC car? — DP stands for Diametral Pitch, which is the measure of gear tooth size and spacing. The 48 DP specification means this pinion works with spur gears in the same pitch to create your vehicle's gear ratio. The gear ratio determines the balance between acceleration and top speed in your RC car. A 48 DP pinion is a standard specification in modern RC car design, offering a good range of tooth count options (including this 25-tooth version) to fine-tune performance for different tracks and driving styles.
- Will this pinion fit my RC car? — This pinion is designed for RC cars with 3.17mm motor shafts and 48 DP spur gears. Most modern brushless motor setups in the UK use 3.17mm shafts, so compatibility is very likely. You'll need to confirm that your vehicle uses 48 DP gears (check your manual or existing pinion markings). If your car uses a different shaft diameter (such as 5mm) or a different pitch (such as 32 DP or 64 DP), you'll need a different pinion.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gears wear gradually through normal use, with wear rates depending on driving intensity, terrain and maintenance. Competitive racers may replace pinions every few weeks of heavy track use, whilst casual bashers might go months between replacements. Signs of wear include increased noise, vibration, poor acceleration or a loose mesh with the spur gear. The hardened steel construction of the C-71425 resists wear better than softer materials, extending the service life of your drivetrain.
- Is a 25-tooth pinion the right choice for me? — The 25-tooth count is a mid-range option that provides balanced performance. Fewer teeth (like 23 or 24) give more acceleration but lower top speed, whilst more teeth (like 26 or 27) increase top speed but reduce acceleration. The 25-tooth configuration is versatile for general racing and bashing. Your choice should depend on your local track layout and whether you prioritise corner speed or straight-line velocity.
- What's the difference between hardened steel and standard steel pinions? — Hardened steel pinions resist wear and deformation significantly better than standard steel alternatives. The hardening process increases the material's hardness and durability, meaning your pinion maintains its tooth profile accuracy for longer, reducing vibration and maintaining smooth drivetrain engagement. This translates to better performance consistency and longer intervals between replacements, particularly valuable if you race frequently or bash intensively.
- Can I use this pinion with different spur gears? — Yes, as long as your spur gear is also 48 DP specification. The DP pitch must match between pinion and spur gear for correct meshing. Once matched in pitch, you can use different tooth count spur gears to achieve different overall gear ratios. This modular approach is one of the key advantages of the 48 DP system used in modern RC cars across the UK.
