Key Features
- 7075 T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Construction — This pinion is manufactured from aerospace-grade 7075 T6 aluminium alloy, which is then hard anodised to create a tough surface coating that dramatically increases durability and wear resistance. The hard anodising process creates a protective layer that withstands the constant meshing forces between pinion and spur gear, ensuring your investment lasts through countless hours of racing and bashing. This material choice means the pinion maintains its precision longer than softer alternatives, delivering consistent performance race after race.
- CNC-Cut Teeth with Perfect Shaping and Concentricity — Every tooth on this pinion is precisely cut using advanced CNC machinery, ensuring that each tooth has an absolutely perfect profile and that the teeth are concentrically aligned with the gear shaft. This precision manufacturing eliminates runout and vibration that can occur with less precisely cut gears, resulting in smoother power delivery, quieter operation, and more efficient energy transfer from your motor to your RC car's transmission. For RC racers, this translates to faster acceleration and more predictable handling characteristics.
- 48 DP Module Rating — The 48 DP (diametral pitch) specification means this pinion is compatible with all 48 DP geared RC cars currently in the market, including most modern touring cars, buggies, and stadium trucks. This standardisation makes it easy to upgrade or replace your pinion without needing to rebuild your entire drivetrain, and allows you to select from a huge range of tooth counts to dial in your ideal gear ratio.
- 29-Tooth Configuration — The 29-tooth setup provides a mid-range gear ratio that suits a variety of track conditions and driving styles. This tooth count represents a balanced choice between acceleration and top speed, making it suitable for many track layouts and particularly effective on mixed-surface courses that require both rapid acceleration out of corners and reasonable top speed on straights.
- 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — This pinion features a 3.17mm shaft diameter hole, which is the standard for modern brushless motors in 1/10-scale RC racing. This ensures compatibility with the vast majority of contemporary brushless motors used in competitive RC racing in the UK, making it a drop-in replacement or upgrade for your existing setup.
- Individual Tooth Count Marking — Each pinion is permanently marked with its tooth number (in this case, 29T), allowing for instant visual identification when managing multiple gearing setups. This practical feature eliminates confusion and prevents accidentally installing the wrong pinion ratio, which is invaluable when you're running multiple RC cars or frequently changing setups between different tracks and conditions.
- Short Length Design — The 9mm gear length (with 4mm tooth width) provides an optimised balance between strength and lightweight construction. The short length design reduces rotational inertia, allowing for quicker acceleration and more responsive handling, whilst maintaining sufficient tooth engagement with the spur gear for reliable power transmission and durability.
- European Manufacturing Standards — Built in Europe to stringent quality control standards, this pinion undergoes rigorous testing to ensure every unit meets the exacting specifications required by competitive RC racing. This commitment to manufacturing excellence and quality assurance gives you confidence that every pinion will perform consistently and reliably.
Technical Performance
The Corally 48 DP Pinion Short Hard Anodised AL7075 represents the pinnacle of pinion gear engineering for modern RC racing applications. The use of 7075 T6 aluminium alloy represents a material science choice favoured in aerospace and high-performance automotive industries specifically because of its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. When hard anodised, this material develops a ceramic-like surface that dramatically resists wear, deformation, and corrosion, ensuring that your pinion maintains its precision geometry through thousands of gear meshes. The CNC cutting process used in manufacturing this pinion ensures that every tooth has an identical profile, with zero runout or concentricity error, which is critical for vibration-free operation. A vibration-free drivetrain isn't just about comfort — it directly translates to improved handling consistency, more predictable acceleration characteristics, and ultimately faster lap times for competitive RC racers. The 4mm tooth width provides ample contact surface between the pinion and spur gear to distribute forces evenly and prevent localised stress concentrations that could lead to premature failure. The 9mm overall length balances durability with minimal rotational inertia, making the gear feel responsive under acceleration. For RC car enthusiasts in the UK running 48 DP transmission systems, this pinion offers the kind of precision engineering and build quality that separates championship-level setups from casual racing. Whether you're upgrading from original equipment gears or replacing a worn pinion, this Corally unit will improve your RC car's drivetrain consistency and longevity.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What 48 DP spur gears are compatible with this 29-tooth pinion? — This 29-tooth pinion is compatible with any 48 DP spur gear used in 48 DP geared RC cars. The overall gear ratio is calculated by dividing the number of spur teeth by the pinion teeth (for example, a 75-tooth spur with this 29-tooth pinion gives a 2.59:1 ratio). By selecting different spur gear sizes from manufacturers like Corally, you can adjust your RC car's acceleration and top speed to suit specific track conditions and driving styles.
- Is this pinion suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a professional-quality component, it's perfectly suitable for beginners who own 48 DP geared RC cars. However, beginners should note that this is a component part rather than a complete RC car, and installation typically requires basic mechanical knowledge and the appropriate tools. If you're new to RC and don't yet have a 48 DP car, we'd recommend starting with a ready-to-run RC car from manufacturers like Traxxas, ARRMA, or Losi, then exploring component upgrades like this Corally pinion as you develop your skills and knowledge.
- How do I know which pinion tooth count I need? — The ideal pinion tooth count depends on your RC car's spur gear and your track conditions. Higher tooth count pinions (like this 29T) are geared slightly more towards top speed, whilst lower tooth counts favour acceleration. Most modern 48 DP RC cars work best with pinion counts between 25 and 33 teeth. We recommend consulting your RC car's instruction manual or speaking with our team at RC Model Shop to determine the optimal ratio for your specific vehicle and driving style.
- Will this pinion work in my RC car? — This pinion will fit any RC car designed for 48 DP gears with a 3.17mm motor shaft. This covers the vast majority of modern 1/10-scale touring cars, buggies, and stadium trucks from manufacturers like Team Corally, Xray, TLR, Yokomo, and others. However, some specialised or older RC cars may use different systems (such as 64 DP or larger motors with different shaft diameters), so we recommend confirming your car's specifications before purchasing. Our team at RC Model Shop can help verify compatibility if you're unsure.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and the hard-anodised construction of this Corally pinion, you can expect thousands of hours of racing and bashing before replacement becomes necessary. Replacement is typically needed when you notice visible wear on the teeth, a grinding sound during acceleration, or a noticeable loss of performance. For competitive racers, pinions are often swapped out between seasons or when changing to different track conditions, rather than due to outright failure.
- What tools do I need to install this pinion? — Installation typically requires a 1.5mm hex key (Allen key) for the retention screw that holds the pinion on the motor shaft. You may also need a small flat-head screwdriver and your RC car's documentation for specific installation instructions. Most RC enthusiasts can install a pinion in under five minutes once they're familiar with the process. If you're new to RC maintenance, our experienced team at RC Model Shop is happy to provide guidance or support.
