For RC car UK enthusiasts who understand that drivetrain quality directly impacts performance, reliability and handling characteristics, investing in precision gears like this makes a measurable difference to your results on the track.

This is not a generic pinion gear—every aspect of its design has been optimised for vibration-free operation, perfect concentricity, and long-term durability. The gear comes pre-marked with the tooth number for quick identification, and it's compatible with all RC cars and buggies that use 48 DP gearing systems with 3.17mm motor shafts, making it a versatile upgrade option for most modern electric RC vehicles.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from hardened steel which provides superior toughness and resistance to wear, meaning it will maintain its precision and performance throughout extended racing seasons and intense driving conditions, ultimately providing better value through longer service life compared to standard steel alternatives.
  • CNC Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Each tooth is cut using precision CNC machinery which guarantees perfect tooth shape and ultra-true concentricity, this level of precision eliminates vibration and noise during operation, resulting in smoother power delivery, reduced drivetrain stress, and more predictable handling characteristics on the track.
  • Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — The teeth are shaped to exacting tolerances using a special gear cutting machine, ensuring that the pinion meshes perfectly with your spur gear, this precision reduces backlash and power loss whilst extending the lifespan of both the pinion and spur gear.
  • 48 DP Module Specification — This pinion operates at 48 DP (Diametral Pitch), which is the industry standard for modern RC cars, ensuring full compatibility with aftermarket and OEM spur gears from leading manufacturers, allowing you to experiment with different gear ratios to optimise performance for your specific track and driving style.
  • 13-Tooth Configuration — The 13-tooth setup strikes an excellent balance between low-end torque and top-speed capability, making it suitable for a wide range of track conditions from tight technical courses requiring acceleration out of corners to more open layouts where slightly higher gearing is beneficial.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed to fit all motors with 3.17mm shaft diameter, this is the most common shaft size in modern brushless and brushed RC motors, ensuring broad compatibility with current and recent RC car platforms available across the UK RC hobby market.
  • Pre-Marked Tooth Identification — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth count (13T), eliminating confusion when managing multiple gears and making it simple to verify you have the correct ratio when setting up or maintaining your RC car's drivetrain.
  • European Manufacturing Quality — Made in Europe using stringent quality control standards, this gear represents the reliability and precision engineering that RC enthusiasts have come to expect from premium gear manufacturers, with consistent performance from one unit to the next.
  • Vibration-Free Operation — The combination of ultra-precise CNC cutting, hardened steel material, and perfect concentricity results in smooth, vibration-free running, which translates to reduced drivetrain noise, less wear on adjacent components, and improved overall handling stability during high-speed running.

Technical Performance

The Corally 48 DP pinion represents the pinnacle of modern RC gear manufacturing technology. At just 13 teeth, this pinion is designed for racing applications where precision and reliability are non-negotiable. The special hardened steel material used throughout construction provides exceptional durability whilst maintaining the exact dimensional tolerances required for perfect mesh with standard 48 DP spur gears. The CNC cutting process ensures each tooth profile is absolutely identical, eliminating the subtle variations that can occur in lower-grade manufacturing methods. With a shaft diameter of 3.17mm, it fits seamlessly into the vast majority of modern brushless and brushed RC motors currently in use across competitive and recreational RC racing in the UK. The gear length of 9mm and tooth width of 4mm are precisely calculated to provide optimal load distribution across the gear mesh whilst maintaining compact overall dimensions. The 1.5mm hex key size for the retaining grub screw makes installation straightforward using standard RC hobby tools. These specifications combine to create a pinion gear that delivers vibration-free operation, minimal power loss through the drivetrain, and exceptional longevity even under the demanding conditions of competitive racing. For anyone serious about RC car performance and reliability, the engineering quality evident in every aspect of this gear's design and manufacture makes it a wise investment in your RC setup's long-term performance and durability.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does 48 DP mean and why does it matter for my RC car? — DP stands for Diametral Pitch, which is the standard measurement for gear sizing in RC vehicles. 48 DP is the most common specification for modern RC cars, meaning all your gears and pinions must match this specification to work correctly together. Using a mismatched pitch will result in poor mesh, excessive noise, vibration, and rapid gear wear, so ensuring you have 48 DP gears throughout your drivetrain is essential for reliable performance.
  • Will this pinion fit my RC car? — This pinion will fit any RC car that uses 48 DP gearing and has a motor with a 3.17mm shaft diameter. This covers the vast majority of modern brushless and brushed RC cars on the market today. If you're unsure whether your RC car meets these specifications, check your vehicle's manual or contact us at RC Model Shop for guidance on compatibility with your specific model.
  • How does the 13-tooth pinion affect my RC car's performance? — A 13-tooth pinion is considered relatively low gearing, meaning it will provide strong acceleration and low-end torque out of corners and during initial launch, whilst potentially sacrificing some top-end speed compared to higher tooth counts like 14 or 15-tooth options. The 13T is ideal for tight, technical tracks with lots of corners, or for drivers who prioritise responsive acceleration and mid-range performance over maximum straight-line speed.
  • What is the difference between this hardened steel pinion and standard pinions? — Hardened steel pinions like this Corally unit undergo a special heat treatment process that significantly increases the material's hardness and wear resistance compared to standard steel. This means the teeth will maintain their precise shape through many more hours of operation, delivering consistent performance and extending the overall service life of both the pinion and your spur gear, making it a better long-term investment despite potentially higher initial cost.
  • How often will I need to replace this pinion? — With proper maintenance and care, a hardened steel CNC-cut pinion like this should last through many racing seasons or extensive recreational use. Lifespan depends on factors including driving intensity, track surface, proper lubrication, and spur gear condition. Regular inspection for wear or damage is recommended, and you should replace the pinion if you notice increased noise, vibration, or visible wear to the tooth profiles.
  • Do I need any additional tools or parts to install this pinion? — Installation requires a 1.5mm hex key (included with most RC cars), and you'll need to remove your existing pinion from your motor shaft. The new pinion simply slides onto the shaft and is secured with a grub screw. No special tools or additional parts are required, making installation straightforward for most RC enthusiasts, even those new to drivetrain maintenance.
  • How does CNC tooth cutting improve performance compared to standard manufacturing? — CNC (Computer Numeric Control) cutting ensures that every single tooth on the pinion is cut to absolutely identical specifications, with perfect geometry and concentricity. This precision eliminates the subtle variations found in standard-cut gears, resulting in smoother mesh with your spur gear, reduced vibration and noise, lower drivetrain stress, and improved overall handling feel whilst driving your RC car.
