Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from hardened steel specifically chosen for its toughness and durability, ensuring the gear teeth withstand the stresses of repeated acceleration and deceleration without stripping or wearing prematurely. This material selection is critical for RC cars that experience high-torque loads during competitive racing or aggressive driving.
  • CNC Cut Teeth with Perfect Tooth Shaping — Each tooth is cut using precision CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery, guaranteeing that every tooth on the gear has an identical profile and geometry. This precision manufacturing eliminates tooth variations that could cause noise, vibration, or uneven power delivery through your RC car's drivetrain.
  • Ultra-True Running and Vibration-Free Operation — The combination of CNC-cut teeth and precise tolerances means this pinion gear runs with exceptional concentricity (perfect alignment with the motor shaft). This eliminates the vibrations that can occur with poorly manufactured gears, resulting in smoother acceleration, quieter operation, and reduced wear on surrounding drivetrain components in your RC vehicle.
  • Precise Tolerances and Unparalleled Concentricity — Every pinion is manufactured to exacting tolerances that ensure perfect alignment with your motor shaft and spur gear. Concentricity (the precision of the gear's centre) is absolutely critical in RC racing, as even microscopic run-out can cause inconsistent performance and premature wear. This pinion delivers the concentricity demanded by competitive RC racers.
  • 64 DP (Diametral Pitch) Standard Compatibility — The 64 DP specification means this pinion meshes perfectly with all 64DP spur gears in the market. This universal compatibility makes it easy to upgrade or swap gears without worrying about fitment issues, giving you flexibility when tuning your RC car's performance.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Diameter — This pinion fits standard 3.17mm motor shafts found in most modern electric RC cars and buggies. The precise bore diameter ensures a secure, wobble-free fit that maintains alignment and prevents slippage during hard acceleration.
  • 38-Tooth Configuration for Versatile Gearing Options — The 38-tooth count offers a balanced gear ratio suitable for a variety of track types and driving conditions. This tooth count is popular among RC racers because it provides good acceleration while maintaining respectable top speed, making it an excellent all-purpose choice for both track and off-road driving.
  • Clearly Marked for Easy Identification — Each pinion is stamped with the tooth number (38T), making it quick and simple to identify when you have multiple gears in your RC pit box or workshop. This is particularly valuable during races or practice sessions when you might need to swap gears quickly to adjust your car's performance.
  • Compact Short Design — The short pinion design is optimised for modern RC car gearboxes, providing reliable engagement with spur gears while minimising excessive contact that could cause friction and heat generation. This design ensures maximum efficiency in power transmission from your motor to the drivetrain.
  • 1.5mm Hex Key Installation — The pinion secures to your motor shaft using a standard 1.5mm hex key, which is the industry-standard size for RC car components. Installation is straightforward and requires only basic tools that most RC enthusiasts already have in their workshop.
  • European Manufacturing Quality — Manufactured in Europe using international quality standards, this pinion represents the precision engineering and attention to detail that European RC component makers are renowned for throughout the hobby community in the UK.

Technical Performance

The Corally C-71338 pinion gear represents a significant investment in drivetrain reliability and performance consistency. With a 38-tooth count operating at 64 DP (Diametral Pitch), this pinion is engineered for maximum compatibility across the RC market whilst delivering the precision required by competitive RC racers. The special hardened steel composition provides exceptional durability whilst the CNC-cut teeth guarantee perfect tooth geometry and shaping. The gear length of 9mm and teeth width of 4mm are precisely engineered to provide optimal engagement with standard 64DP spur gears without excessive friction or heat generation. The 3.17mm motor shaft bore is manufactured to extremely tight tolerances, ensuring zero play or wobble when installed on your brushless motor. At 4mm teeth width, this pinion provides ample tooth contact surface for reliable power transmission whilst remaining within the compact dimensions preferred by modern RC gearbox designs. The ultra-precise manufacturing process ensures that the pinion runs true with no run-out, eliminating vibrations that could otherwise compromise your RC car's straight-line tracking and acceleration response. Whether you're tuning a 1/10 scale RC buggy, preparing a 1/10 RC off-road racing truck, or optimising any other RC car platform with 64DP gearing, this pinion delivers the performance consistency and durability that separates amateur setups from competition-grade RC vehicles.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a 64 DP pinion gear and why do I need one for my RC car? — The 64 DP (Diametral Pitch) specification refers to the gear tooth size; 64 DP gears are among the smallest common gears used in RC cars. A pinion is a small driving gear that transfers power from your motor to the larger spur gear in your transmission. The pinion gear directly affects your RC car's acceleration and top speed: more teeth means faster top speed but slower acceleration, whilst fewer teeth means quicker acceleration but lower top speed. This 38-tooth pinion provides a balanced ratio suitable for various driving conditions.
  • Will this pinion fit my RC car or buggy? — The C-71338 will fit any RC car that uses 64DP gearing and has a 3.17mm motor shaft diameter. This is the standard specification for most electric RC cars in the 1/10 scale and other categories. If you're unsure, check your RC car's manual or current pinion gear to verify the specifications. We recommend confirming your gearbox compatibility with the retailer or manufacturer before purchasing.
  • What is the difference between hardened steel and standard steel pinions? — Hardened steel undergoes a special heat-treatment process that increases the material's hardness and wear resistance significantly. This makes hardened steel pinions far more durable and longer-lasting than standard steel alternatives, particularly under the high-stress conditions of competitive racing. If you use your RC car frequently or in competitions, a hardened steel pinion like the C-71338 will retain its tooth profile longer and resist stripping better than softer materials.
  • How do CNC-cut teeth improve performance compared to stamped gears? — CNC-cut teeth are manufactured using precision computer-controlled machines that cut each tooth profile with micrometre-level accuracy. Stamped gears, by contrast, are created by pressing dies into metal and often have slight variations between teeth. CNC-cut teeth eliminate these variations, resulting in perfectly uniform tooth geometry, smoother meshing with the spur gear, less vibration, quieter operation, and improved efficiency. For RC racing, this precision translates to more consistent acceleration and better straight-line tracking.
  • What is concentricity and why is it important in a pinion gear? — Concentricity refers to how precisely centred and aligned the gear is around its axis. Perfect concentricity means the gear runs perfectly true with no wobble or run-out. In a pinion gear, poor concentricity causes vibration, uneven wear on the teeth, inconsistent power delivery, and can even cause the gear to skip or chatter against the spur gear. The C-71338 is manufactured with ultra-precise tolerances ensuring exceptional concentricity, which is essential for smooth, reliable operation in any RC car.
  • Can I use this pinion with different spur gears to change my RC car's speed? — Yes. By changing the spur gear (the larger gear in the transmission) whilst keeping the pinion the same, you can adjust your RC car's gearing ratio and thus its acceleration and top speed. Alternatively, you can change the pinion to adjust the ratio. The 38-tooth count of this pinion is versatile and works well with a range of spur gear sizes. However, you must ensure both gears are 64DP to maintain proper compatibility.
  • How long will this hardened steel pinion last? — The lifespan depends on usage intensity, but hardened steel pinions typically last significantly longer than softer alternatives. Regular inspection for wear and proper maintenance of your RC car's drivetrain will extend the pinion's life. We recommend replacing the pinion if you notice any visible tooth damage, wear that causes visible gaps between teeth, or if your RC car begins to exhibit drivetrain slippage or chattering sounds.
  • Is this pinion suitable for beginners or only for experienced racers? — Whilst the C-71338 is a high-performance component preferred by competitive RC racers, it is equally suitable for any RC enthusiast who wants reliability and consistency. If you're replacing a worn pinion in an existing RC car or building a new setup, this gear will serve you well regardless of experience level. The installation is straightforward using a standard 1.5mm hex key.
  • What tools do I need to install this pinion? — You will need a 1.5mm hex key (allen key) to secure the pinion to your motor shaft. Most RC cars also require you to remove the motor and/or access the gearbox, so you may need additional tools depending on your specific RC vehicle's design. Refer to your RC car's manual for detailed installation instructions specific to your model.
