Overview

The Corally 64 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 34 Teeth Shaft Dia. 3.17mm (C-71334) is a precision-engineered replacement gear component designed for RC car enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliability and performance. Whether you're running a competitive race car, a weekend basher, or experimenting with different gear ratios on your RC vehicle, this hardened steel pinion gear delivers the concentricity and durability required for consistent performance. As a specialist RC retailer serving the UK market, we understand that pinion gears are critical components that directly impact acceleration, top speed, and overall drivability of your RC car setup.

Team Corally has earned a reputation amongst the RC community for manufacturing high-performance drivetrain components with exacting tolerances and materials science. This 34-tooth pinion is manufactured from special hardened steel using CNC precision cutting techniques, ensuring that every tooth is shaped perfectly and runs with virtually no vibration. The gear is designed specifically for 64DP (diametral pitch) systems and fits motor shafts measuring 3.17mm in diameter, making it compatible with a wide range of RC cars that utilise this standard gearing configuration. Available in a comprehensive range of tooth counts, this gearing option allows you to fine-tune your RC car's performance characteristics to match your specific track conditions or driving style.

For RC enthusiasts in the UK seeking to optimise their car's performance through gearing adjustments, the C-71334 represents a cost-effective upgrade path. Rather than purchasing an entirely new transmission assembly, pinion gear swaps allow drivers to experiment with different gear ratios to achieve higher top speeds with a larger pinion, or improved acceleration with careful gearing selection. This flexibility is invaluable whether you're preparing for competitive RC racing or simply looking to refresh worn drivetrain components on your existing RC car.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from premium hardened steel rather than standard material, providing superior resistance to wear, deformation, and tooth stripping during aggressive driving or high-torque motor applications. This material choice ensures the gear maintains its precise geometry even under demanding racing conditions, extending component lifespan significantly compared to softer alternatives.
  • CNC-Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Each tooth is precisely shaped using CNC machine cutting, delivering consistent tooth geometry and ensuring the gear runs perfectly true with no wobble or runout. This ultra-precise manufacturing eliminates vibration during operation, which translates to smoother power delivery, quieter running, and reduced stress on related drivetrain components like the spur gear and motor bearings.
  • 64 DP Module Compatibility — The pinion conforms to the 64 DP (Diametral Pitch) standard, meaning it meshes seamlessly with all 64DP spur gears in Corally RC cars and many other compatible models. This standardisation ensures you can swap this component into a wide range of RC vehicles without requiring custom adaptations or modifications to your transmission housing.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — The bore is precisely machined to accommodate 3.17mm diameter motor shafts, which is the standard shaft size found on the vast majority of brushless and brushed motors used in modern RC cars throughout the UK hobby. This universal compatibility means the pinion will fit directly onto your existing motor without requiring shaft adapters or modifications.
  • Easy Identification — Each pinion gear is marked clearly with the tooth number (34T in this case), allowing for quick and accurate identification when managing multiple gears or when setting up different gearing configurations. This simple but practical feature eliminates confusion when storing spare pinions or when switching between setups for different track conditions.
  • Vibration-Free Operation — The combination of ultra-precise tooth shaping and ultra-true running results in smooth, vibration-free operation that improves overall drivability and handling characteristics. Reduced vibration also means less mechanical stress on the motor, ESC, and transmission, potentially extending the operational lifespan of your complete drivetrain assembly.
  • European Manufacturing Quality — Made in Europe to stringent quality standards, this pinion represents the engineering excellence that Team Corally has become known for throughout the international RC racing community. European production means consistent quality control and reliable supply chains, important factors when sourcing critical drivetrain components for your RC car.

Technical Performance

The Corally C-71334 pinion gear exemplifies modern RC drivetrain engineering with its combination of premium material selection and precision manufacturing. The hardened steel construction provides the mechanical strength necessary to withstand the torque loads generated by brushless motors, particularly high-KV racing motors that deliver substantial power to the transmission. The 34-tooth count represents a mid-range option within the 64DP pinion lineup, offering a balanced approach to gearing for general RC car applications; larger tooth counts increase top-end speed whilst smaller counts prioritise acceleration. The 4mm teeth width provides adequate contact surface for smooth power transmission, whilst the 9mm overall gear length ensures structural rigidity without excessive rotational inertia. The CNC-cut teeth geometry ensures each tooth profiles perfectly, eliminating the micro-vibrations that can occur with pressed or cast gears, a critical factor in precision-built racing cars. The precision tolerances maintained during manufacturing guarantee that concentricity (the gear's true running symmetry) meets the exacting standards required for vibration-free operation across the full RPM range of modern brushless motors. This level of manufacturing precision is particularly important for competitive RC racing in the UK, where even minor drivetrain inefficiencies can translate into measurable performance losses on the track.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between a 34T pinion and other tooth counts in the Corally range? — Pinion tooth count directly affects your RC car's gearing ratio and performance characteristics. A 34T pinion represents a mid-range option: larger tooth counts (35T, 36T, 37T and above) increase top speed and reduce acceleration, making them ideal for open track racing where maintaining high speed is the priority. Smaller tooth counts (33T, 32T and below) prioritise acceleration and low-end torque, suiting technical tracks with numerous corners or users who prioritise responsive handling over top speed. The 34T offers a balanced compromise suitable for general driving and track conditions.
  • Will this pinion fit my RC car? — This pinion is compatible with any RC car that uses 64DP transmission gears and accepts a 3.17mm diameter motor shaft. The vast majority of modern brushless RC cars in the UK hobby utilise this standard configuration. However, before purchasing, verify your vehicle's specifications by checking the manufacturer documentation or measuring your existing motor shaft diameter and pinion module. If your car uses a different pitch system (such as 48DP or 32DP) or a different shaft size (such as 5mm), this pinion will not be compatible.
  • How do I install this pinion gear? — Installation requires removing your motor from the transmission housing and sliding the old pinion gear off the motor shaft. Clean the shaft thoroughly, then carefully slide the new Corally C-71334 pinion onto the shaft, ensuring it seats fully. Secure the pinion using the grub screw (typically a 1.5mm hex key, as specified by Corally). Ensure the pinion meshes correctly with your spur gear before reassembling the motor into the transmission housing. Proper mesh gap is critical: the gears should rotate smoothly together with minimal backlash but without binding or resistance.
  • Is this pinion suitable for brushless motors? — Yes, this hardened steel pinion is specifically engineered to handle the torque and speed generated by brushless motors, which are the dominant motor type in modern RC cars throughout the UK. The hardened steel construction provides the durability necessary for high-performance brushless setups running 3S, 4S, or even 6S LiPo batteries. For maximum durability with very high-power brushless motors, ensure your pinion meshes correctly with the spur gear and maintains adequate lubrication in the transmission.
  • Why is concentricity important in a pinion gear? — Concentricity refers to how truly the gear runs; a perfectly concentric gear rotates around a single axis with no wobble or runout. Poor concentricity causes vibration, which reduces efficiency, creates drivetrain noise, and increases mechanical stress on the motor shaft and bearings. The CNC manufacturing and precision tolerances of the Corally C-71334 ensure exceptional concentricity, resulting in smooth power delivery, improved handling feel, and longer component lifespan. This is particularly important for competitive RC racing, where drivetrain efficiency directly translates into lap time advantages.
  • What maintenance does this pinion require? — Pinion gears require minimal maintenance beyond ensuring the transmission housing remains clean and properly lubricated. Periodically inspect the pinion for tooth damage or wear; hardened steel pinions are extremely durable, but damaged teeth will cause noise and reduced performance. The marking on the gear (34T) will remain visible throughout the component's lifespan, aiding identification. Clean the gear with a soft brush and dry cloth after muddy or wet running sessions, and ensure adequate grease or oil lubricates the mesh area with the spur gear.
  • Is this a European-manufactured component? — Yes, the Corally C-71334 pinion is manufactured in Europe, ensuring consistent quality standards and reliable production processes. European manufacturing provides confidence in component quality and consistency, factors particularly important when sourcing critical drivetrain elements for RC cars. This production origin also supports sustainable supply chains for UK RC enthusiasts.
