Overview

The Corally 64 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 24 Teeth Shaft Dia. 3.17mm (C-71324) is a premium-quality pinion gear engineered for RC car enthusiasts who demand precision, durability and reliable performance. Whether you're running a competitive RC buggy, truck or on-road racer, this hardened steel pinion gear is designed to deliver exceptional performance through advanced manufacturing techniques and materials science. Built by Team Corally, a respected name in the RC hobby, this pinion gear represents the kind of precision engineering that separates quality upgrades from standard parts.

This 24-tooth pinion gear is specifically designed for 64 DP (diametral pitch) gearing systems and fits all RC cars configured with 64DP gear setups and 3.17mm motor shafts. The gear ratio options available across the full Corally pinion range allow you to fine-tune your RC car's performance for any track condition, whether you're racing on asphalt, carpet, dirt or grass. For UK RC enthusiasts looking to upgrade or replace their existing pinion gear, this component offers the precision and durability needed for both casual weekend bashing and serious competitive racing.

Manufactured in Europe using state-of-the-art CNC machinery and special hardening processes, the Corally 64 DP pinion delivers concentricity and tooth accuracy that enthusiasts can trust. Each pinion is individually marked with its tooth count for quick and easy identification in your spares box, making gear selection straightforward when experimenting with different ratios or replacing worn components.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion gear is manufactured from premium hardened steel rather than standard steel, which provides significantly superior toughness, wear resistance and longevity compared to softer materials, ensuring your investment lasts through many seasons of intense driving.
  • CNC Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Every tooth on this pinion is precision-cut on a special gear machine using CNC technology, guaranteeing perfect tooth shape and geometry with unparalleled concentricity, which directly translates to vibration-free operation and smoother power delivery to your wheels.
  • Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — The manufacturing process creates ultra-true running characteristics that eliminate vibration during operation, reducing mechanical stress on your motor, ESC and transmission components whilst improving overall handling and responsiveness of your RC car.
  • 64 DP Module with 24 Teeth — This specific 64 DP pitch and 24-tooth configuration provides a defined gear ratio option within the Corally ecosystem, allowing you to customise your car's acceleration and top speed characteristics for your preferred track or driving style.
  • Compatible with 3.17mm Motor Shafts — The 3.17mm shaft diameter accommodates the vast majority of modern brushless and brushed RC motor shafts, making this pinion a direct replacement or upgrade option for countless popular RC car models and platforms.
  • Tooth Number Marking for Quick Identification — Each pinion features clear marking with the tooth number printed on the gear itself, eliminating confusion when selecting the correct gear ratio from your collection and speeding up maintenance or setup changes at the track.
  • Available Across All Gearing Sizes — Corally produces this pinion in all standard gearing configurations, giving you the flexibility to find the perfect gear ratio for any track condition, from high-speed carpet racing to technical outdoor courses.
  • European Manufacturing Quality — Designed and manufactured in Europe to exacting standards, this pinion represents the quality control and precision engineering you'd expect from a dedicated RC component manufacturer rather than mass-produced imports.

Technical Performance

The Corally 64 DP Pinion represents a significant step up in quality for RC enthusiasts upgrading from standard factory pinion gears. The hardened steel material undergoes special thermal treatment to achieve superior material properties compared to conventional pinion gears, delivering enhanced resistance to tooth deformation, chipping and wear under sustained high-load operation. CNC precision manufacturing ensures that each tooth maintains exact geometry and spacing, creating a gear that meshes smoothly with your spur gear whilst maintaining optimal pressure angles and contact surfaces. This precision directly impacts drivetrain efficiency — smoother engagement means less parasitic friction loss, allowing more of your motor's power to translate into wheel speed. The 64 DP module (approximately 0.397mm pitch) is a standard specification in modern RC racing, and the 24-tooth count provides a mid-range reduction ratio suitable for balanced acceleration and top speed characteristics. The 3.17mm shaft diameter fits standard 2mm motor shafts with adapter sleeves or is compatible with direct-drive 3.17mm shafts used on some modern brushless motors. Teeth width of 4.0mm provides substantial contact surface for load distribution, whilst the 9.0mm gear length ensures proper mesh engagement with standard spur gears. The hexagonal grub screw mounting system (1.5mm hex key) provides tool-free adjustment and secure retention once properly set. For UK-based RC racers and bashers, upgrading to a hardened steel pinion like this C-71324 model can extend the service life of your drivetrain significantly, reduce mechanical noise and vibration, and improve the overall refinement of your vehicle's performance characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a 64 DP pinion gear and why does pitch matter in RC cars? — DP stands for Diametral Pitch, a measure of gear tooth density. 64 DP means there are 64 teeth per inch of diameter, creating smaller, finer teeth compared to lower DP ratios. This fine pitch allows for smoother operation, better precision and less mechanical noise. The pitch must match your existing spur gear to function correctly, so verify your current gearing system before purchasing.
  • Will this pinion fit my RC car? — This pinion will fit any RC car equipped with a 64 DP gearing system and a 3.17mm motor shaft. Common applications include Corally 1/10 and 1/8 scale models, though compatibility varies by chassis design. Check your vehicle's manual or contact our support team to confirm your car uses 64 DP gears before ordering.
  • What's the advantage of hardened steel versus standard steel pinions? — Hardened steel undergoes thermal treatment to increase material hardness and toughness, providing superior resistance to tooth wear, deformation and chipping compared to untreated or mild steel pinions. This means longer service life, more consistent performance over time, and reduced risk of gear failure during competitive racing or heavy bashing sessions.
  • Why is concentricity important in pinion gears? — Concentricity refers to how precisely the gear teeth are centred on the shaft. Poor concentricity causes wobbling and vibration during operation, creating mechanical stress on motors and ESCs, generating heat and reducing efficiency. The CNC manufacturing process used for this Corally pinion ensures near-perfect concentricity, delivering smooth vibration-free operation.
  • Can I upgrade from a standard pinion to this hardened steel version? — Yes, this pinion is designed as a direct replacement for standard Corally 24T pinions in 64 DP applications. The upgrade provides noticeable improvements in durability, smoothness and longevity. Simply remove your existing pinion using a 1.5mm hex key, slide on the Corally hardened steel version, and secure the grub screw.
  • What gear ratio does the 24-tooth pinion provide? — The final drive ratio depends on your spur gear tooth count. For example, a 24T pinion with an 80T spur gear produces a 3.33:1 ratio. The Corally range offers pinions from 22T to 27T (and potentially more), allowing you to adjust your ratio up or down by selecting different pinion sizes whilst keeping your spur gear constant.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a premium component, it's not beginner-exclusive. Beginners benefit from the improved durability and smooth operation, though a standard pinion works perfectly fine for learning. This pinion is particularly valuable for competitive racers and experienced drivers who push their vehicles hard and appreciate precision engineering.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion wear depends on driving intensity, track conditions and maintenance. Under normal conditions, a quality hardened steel pinion like this can last an entire racing season or many months of recreational use. Inspect your pinion regularly for tooth wear or damage, and replace it if teeth appear flattened or chipped.
