Key Features
- 7075 T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Construction — This premium material offers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, which is crucial for maintaining acceleration and reducing rotating mass on your RC car. The hard anodised finish provides a protective layer that resists wear, corrosion and impact damage during intensive track use, ensuring your pinion gear maintains precision long after installation.
- CNC Cut Teeth for Perfect Shape and Concentricity — Each tooth is machined with ultra-precise specifications on dedicated gear-cutting machinery, guaranteeing flawless tooth geometry and true running characteristics. This precision eliminates the vibration and noise issues common with lower-quality pinions, resulting in smoother acceleration, quieter operation and reduced wear on your motor shaft and spur gear.
- 21-Tooth Configuration — The 21T tooth count provides a carefully balanced gear ratio suitable for medium-speed track conditions. This tooth count works in conjunction with various spur gear sizes to deliver the performance profile your driving style demands, whether that's raw acceleration for tight technical tracks or top-end speed for more open layouts.
- 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Precision engineered to fit standard 3.17mm motor shafts found across the vast majority of modern brushless and brushed RC motors used in competitive and recreational RC cars throughout the UK and Europe. This universal shaft diameter ensures broad compatibility with your existing drivetrain.
- Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — Each pinion undergoes rigorous quality control to ensure every tooth profile matches exact specifications. This precision eliminates binding, slipping and premature wear, delivering consistent performance lap after lap and season after season.
- Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — The manufacturing process guarantees minimal run-out, meaning the pinion gear rotates with absolute smoothness. This vibration-free operation translates directly into more predictable handling characteristics, better traction and improved overall lap times in competitive racing scenarios.
- Individual Tooth Count Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth number for instant identification, making gear changes and maintenance simple. No more guessing which pinion is in your car — quick visual reference ensures you have the correct gear ratio installed for your current track setup.
- Module 48DP Standard — This is the industry-standard pitch specification for modern RC car drivetrains, ensuring seamless compatibility with 48DP spur gears and other drivetrain components from all major manufacturers. The 48DP specification has become the benchmark for high-performance RC cars, making this pinion a reliable choice for any 48DP-based setup.
- Made in Europe — Manufactured to strict European quality standards, this pinion gear represents the commitment to precision engineering and quality control that European RC brands are renowned for. You can trust the manufacturing consistency and reliability of every component that leaves the production facility.
Technical Performance
This pinion gear represents the culmination of professional engineering expertise applied to RC drivetrain components. The 7075 T6 aluminium material used in construction is one of the strongest aluminium alloys available, offering superior fatigue resistance compared to cheaper 6061 or 7075 non-hardened alternatives. The hard anodising process adds an additional protective oxide layer that resists corrosion from sweat, dirt, moisture and track chemicals whilst maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the component. With a tooth width of 4.00mm and overall gear length of 9.00mm, this pinion is designed for the short-gear configuration, reducing overall drivetrain height and improving weight distribution on your RC car chassis.
The CNC precision tooth cutting ensures concentricity tolerances that keep run-out to an absolute minimum, typically under 0.05mm, which is critical for smooth meshing with your spur gear. This precision minimises friction losses in the drivetrain, meaning more of your motor's power reaches the wheels rather than being dissipated as heat. The 1.5mm hex key size allows easy installation and removal using standard RC pit tools, making gear changes quick and straightforward during tuning sessions. The 21-tooth specification places this pinion in the medium-range category when paired with standard spur gears, offering a balanced approach to acceleration and top speed suitable for most track conditions encountered in UK RC racing.
The engineering philosophy behind this pinion demonstrates Team Corally's understanding that consistent, reliable drivetrain performance is fundamental to competitive success in RC motorsport. Every pinion that leaves the manufacturing facility has been quality-checked to ensure it meets exact specifications, giving you confidence that your investment in this component will deliver measurable performance improvements and lasting durability throughout multiple racing seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between 48 DP and other gear pitch specifications for RC cars? — Module Diametral Pitch (DP) determines the gear ratio and spacing of teeth on your pinion and spur gears. The 48DP specification is the modern industry standard for high-performance RC cars, providing a good balance between smooth operation and precise tooth engagement. Lower DP numbers like 32DP create larger teeth and lower precision, whilst higher DP numbers like 64DP offer finer teeth but require more precise manufacturing. The 48DP standard has become the recognised choice for serious RC competitors throughout the UK and Europe.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a precision component best suited to intermediate and advanced RC enthusiasts who understand drivetrain tuning and gear ratios. Beginners should ensure they understand how pinion tooth count affects acceleration and top speed, and should verify compatibility with their specific spur gear size before purchasing. However, if you have a 48DP RC car and need a replacement or upgrade pinion, this component delivers excellent value and performance.
- How do I know what pinion tooth count I need? — Pinion tooth count is chosen based on your spur gear size, desired acceleration versus top speed characteristics, and track conditions. A lower pinion tooth count (like 19T) gives more top speed but less acceleration, whilst a higher count (like 23T or 25T) provides quicker acceleration but lower maximum speed. The 21-tooth configuration in this pinion offers a balanced middle ground suitable for most track layouts. Consult your RC car manufacturer's recommendations or your local RC shop for guidance on the best ratio for your specific vehicle and driving style.
- Why is hard anodising important for a pinion gear? — Hard anodising creates a durable oxide layer on the aluminium surface that significantly increases wear resistance compared to bare aluminium. This protective coating resists corrosion from moisture and dirt, prevents the pinion from becoming scratched or damaged during gear changes, and extends the overall lifespan of the component. For competitive RC racing where your car may be subjected to dust, dirt and moisture throughout a race day, hard anodising is a worthwhile investment in durability.
- Will this pinion work with my existing RC car? — This pinion is designed for any 48DP geared RC car with a 3.17mm motor shaft. This includes most modern brushless RC cars from leading manufacturers. However, you should verify that your car's motor has a 3.17mm shaft diameter and that your existing spur gear is also 48DP before purchasing. If you're unsure about compatibility, contact RC Model Shop's expert team for guidance.
- How do I install this pinion gear? — Installation typically involves removing your motor from the chassis, unbolting the existing pinion gear using the 1.5mm hex key, sliding the old pinion off the motor shaft, and sliding the new pinion onto the shaft. The pinion is usually secured with a set screw that tightens against the motor shaft. Always follow your specific RC car manufacturer's installation instructions and check that the new pinion meshes correctly with your spur gear before running your car.
