Key Features

  • 7075 T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Construction — The pinion is manufactured from premium 7075 T6 aluminium alloy, one of the strongest aluminium grades available, and finished with hard anodising for superior durability and wear resistance, ensuring your pinion will withstand thousands of hours of high-stress operation without degradation.
  • CNC-Cut Teeth for Perfect Shaping and Concentricity — Each tooth is precisely machined on a specialist gear-cutting machine to ensure perfect tooth geometry and perfect runout, which eliminates vibration, reduces noise, and maximises the efficiency of power transfer from motor to gearbox.
  • 20-Tooth Configuration — The 20-tooth count provides a balanced gear ratio option for 48 DP systems, allowing you to fine-tune your RC car's performance characteristics across a variety of tracks and driving styles without sacrificing reliability or drivability.
  • Fits 3.17mm Motor Shafts — Specifically designed for 3.17mm diameter motor shafts, this pinion is compatible with the vast majority of standard RC car motors used in 1/10 scale and similar applications across the UK RC hobby market.
  • Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — Every pinion is manufactured using specialist machinery that creates ultra-precise tooth profiles, meaning minimal backlash and maximum engagement with your spur gear, translating to more responsive handling and better acceleration characteristics.
  • Ultra-True Running — The precision manufacturing process ensures that every pinion runs with minimal wobble or run-out, providing vibration-free operation that translates to smoother acceleration, better handling feedback, and reduced wear on surrounding components.
  • Tooth Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth number, making it quick and easy to identify the correct gear when swapping pinions or building a new transmission setup without having to count teeth or consult documentation.
  • Available in All Gearing Sizes — Team Corally manufactures this pinion in a full range of tooth counts (typically 16T through 25T+), meaning you can find the exact gear ratio to suit your specific RC car, track conditions, and driving preferences.
  • European Manufacturing Standards — This pinion is made in Europe to exacting quality standards, ensuring consistency and reliability across every unit produced, giving you confidence that your replacement or upgrade pinion will perform identically to the factory original.
  • Short Length Design — The short-length configuration minimises overall gearbox thickness, contributing to optimal weight distribution and chassis balance in your RC car whilst maintaining full engagement and load-carrying capacity.

Technical Performance

This 20-tooth pinion represents a crucial performance component in your RC car's drivetrain. Built from 7075 T6 aluminium—an aerospace-grade material chosen specifically for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio—this pinion delivers reliability without unnecessary bulk. The hard anodising process chemically treats the aluminium surface to create an extremely hard, wear-resistant coating that protects against abrasion from constant meshing with your spur gear. With a module pitch of 48 DP (diametral pitch), this pinion is specifically designed for high-precision gear systems used in competitive and high-performance RC cars throughout the UK. The 20-tooth count places this in the mid-range for 48 DP systems, making it suitable for balanced performance on most track types. The shaft diameter of 3.17mm is the industry standard for most brushless and brushed RC car motors, ensuring seamless integration with your existing motor setup. With a teeth width of 4.00mm and overall gear length of 9.00mm, this pinion offers excellent load distribution across the gear face. The CNC-cut tooth profile ensures perfect geometry with minimal concentricity errors—critical factors that determine how smoothly power transfers from your motor through the gearbox. Installation is straightforward using the included 1.5mm hex key to secure the pinion to your motor shaft. The ultra-true running characteristic means you'll experience vibration-free operation that directly translates to better handling response, reduced driveline noise, and extended component lifespan. Whether you're running a competitive setup in 1/10 scale off-road racing or enjoying casual bashing sessions, this pinion will provide consistent, reliable performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does 48 DP mean and why does it matter for my RC car? — DP stands for diametral pitch, a measurement that defines the tooth size and spacing of gears. 48 DP gears feature smaller, finer teeth compared to 32 DP systems, providing smoother, quieter, more precise power delivery with reduced backlash. This makes 48 DP systems ideal for competitive racing and precision driving where every millisecond and every degree of handling response matters. The finer tooth profile also allows for more precise gear ratio adjustments by changing pinion and spur combinations.
  • What gear ratio does a 20-tooth pinion give me? — The overall gear ratio depends on your spur gear tooth count. For example, a 20T pinion paired with a 78T spur gear creates a 3.9:1 ratio, whilst a 20T pinion with a 70T spur creates a 3.5:1 ratio. Consult your RC car's documentation or contact our team for the specific combination that suits your track and driving style.
  • Is this pinion suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst this is a high-quality component suitable for competitive use, it's equally appropriate for beginner and recreational drivers. The main benefit is reliability and consistent performance, which means fewer drivetrain issues and more time enjoying your RC car rather than troubleshooting. If you're upgrading from a factory pinion, you'll notice smoother acceleration and quieter operation immediately.
  • Will this pinion fit my RC car? — This pinion is designed for any 48 DP geared RC car with a motor shaft diameter of 3.17mm. That covers the vast majority of modern 1/10 scale RC buggies, short-course trucks, and stadium trucks. However, you should verify your RC car's specifications before purchasing. If you're unsure, our team at RC Model Shop can help identify the correct pinion for your specific chassis.
  • Why is hard anodising important for a pinion gear? — Hard anodising creates a ceramic-like surface layer that's significantly harder and more durable than standard anodising. This protects your pinion from wear, corrosion, and spalling (cracking under load stress). Since your pinion meshes thousands of times per minute with your spur gear, this extra durability translates to a longer service life and more consistent performance over extended use, whether you're racing competitively or bashing recreationally.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and the high-quality hard anodising on this Team Corally pinion, you should expect thousands of hours of reliable service. Replacement becomes necessary when you notice visible wear, chipped teeth, or changes in handling characteristics. Many racers keep spare pinions in different tooth counts for experimenting with gear ratios rather than replacing worn gears.
  • What's the difference between this 20T pinion and other tooth counts? — The tooth count directly affects your gear ratio and therefore your RC car's acceleration and top speed. Lower tooth counts (16T-18T) create higher gear ratios for faster top speeds but lower acceleration, whilst higher tooth counts (22T-25T) create lower gear ratios for better acceleration but lower top speeds. The 20T is a versatile middle-ground option suitable for most track conditions and driving styles.
  • Can I use this pinion with my existing spur gear? — Yes, this pinion will mesh with any standard 48 DP spur gear. Simply ensure your current spur gear is also 48 DP (check your manual or the gear itself), and this pinion will drop straight in. You may notice slightly different performance characteristics if you're upgrading from a lower-quality pinion, as the CNC-cut precision teeth will engage more smoothly with your spur.
