Key Features

  • 7075 T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Construction — This pinion is machined from aerospace-grade 7075 T6 aluminium, which offers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio compared to standard aluminium gears. The hard anodised coating provides a protective layer that dramatically increases durability, reduces wear, and protects against corrosion, ensuring your pinion remains reliable even in challenging driving conditions or damp UK weather.
  • Precision CNC-Cut Teeth — Every tooth on this pinion is cut using advanced CNC machinery, guaranteeing perfect tooth shaping and concentricity that results in smooth, vibration-free operation. This precision engineering means the pinion meshes perfectly with your spur gear, reducing noise, minimising power loss through the drivetrain, and extending the lifespan of both gears.
  • 17-Tooth Configuration for 3.17mm Motor Shafts — This pinion features exactly 17 teeth and is engineered for 3.17mm diameter motor shafts, making it compatible with a comprehensive range of 48DP geared RC cars available in the UK. The precise fit ensures secure mounting and reliable power delivery without slippage or runout.
  • 48 DP Module for Universal Compatibility — Operating at 48 DP (Diametral Pitch), this pinion is designed to mesh with standard 48DP spur gears used across the 48DP geared RC car market. This modularity means you can upgrade or replace your pinion without needing to change your entire drivetrain, making it an economical choice for upgrading existing RC cars.
  • Tooth Number Markings for Easy Identification — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth count, allowing you to quickly identify the gear ratio and verify you're installing the correct pinion for your setup. This simple but effective feature saves time during gear changes and helps prevent installation errors.
  • European Manufacturing Excellence — Manufactured in Europe to the exacting standards Team Corally is renowned for, this pinion represents the dedication to quality that has made Corally a trusted name among RC enthusiasts worldwide. You can rely on consistent quality and performance with every pinion from this batch.
  • Short Pinion Length Design — At just 9mm in overall length with 4mm tooth width, this compact pinion design minimises drivetrain friction and reduces overall weight, contributing to improved acceleration and efficiency in your RC car.
  • 1.5mm Hex Key Installation — The pinion installs using a standard 1.5mm hex key (Allen wrench), making installation and removal straightforward with minimal tools. This is a common hex size you likely already have in your RC toolkit.

Technical Performance

The Corally C-70417 represents a significant step up in drivetrain performance for any RC car UK enthusiast looking to upgrade their gears. The use of 7075 T6 hard anodised aluminium provides a material that is substantially harder and more durable than standard aluminium pinions, meaning it resists wear from constant meshing with the spur gear and maintains precise tooth geometry longer. The hard anodising process adds a protective oxide coating that guards against corrosion and extends the operating life of the pinion, particularly important for RC cars driven in wet conditions or coastal areas where salt spray can degrade components. With a module of 48DP, this pinion operates within a defined gear ratio system; the 17-tooth count gives you a mid-range gearing option that balances acceleration with top speed — ideal for mixed-terrain driving or all-purpose track use. The CNC precision manufacturing ensures that tooth concentricity is within extremely tight tolerances, meaning runout is minimised and vibration during operation is virtually eliminated. This translates directly to quieter operation, more efficient power transmission from motor to wheels, and ultimately faster lap times or better speed in bashful driving. The short 9mm length and 4mm tooth width are carefully engineered dimensions that optimise the contact patch with your spur gear whilst minimising unnecessary weight and friction. For RC cars UK users upgrading from standard pinions or replacing worn gears, this Corally pinion delivers measurable improvements in drivetrain responsiveness and reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a 48DP pinion and what does the gear pitch mean? — DP stands for Diametral Pitch, a measurement system that defines how fine or coarse the teeth are. 48DP gearing is a common standard in modern RC cars, particularly in 1/10 scale vehicles, and specifies that there are 48 teeth per inch of gear diameter. This modular system means all 48DP pinions mesh with all 48DP spur gears, giving you flexibility in choosing different tooth counts to adjust your gear ratio.
  • How do I know if this pinion will fit my RC car? — This pinion is compatible with any 48DP geared RC car that uses a 3.17mm diameter motor shaft. Check your vehicle's specifications or consult the instruction manual to confirm it uses 48DP gearing and has a 3.17mm motor shaft. The pinion installs onto your electric motor's output shaft where it meshes with the spur gear.
  • What is the benefit of 7075 T6 hard anodised aluminium over standard pinions? — 7075 T6 aluminium is significantly harder and stronger than standard alloys, whilst the hard anodising process adds a durable protective coating. This combination means the pinion resists wear much more effectively, maintains precise tooth geometry longer, resists corrosion, and ultimately delivers longer service life and more consistent performance compared to softer aluminium gears.
  • Will upgrading to a Corally pinion improve my RC car's performance? — Yes, upgrading to a precision-manufactured Corally pinion from a lower-quality pinion can deliver noticeable improvements. The CNC-cut teeth ensure perfect concentricity, which means smoother engagement with your spur gear, less vibration, and more efficient power transmission. You may notice improved acceleration, smoother power delivery, and quieter operation, particularly if you're upgrading from worn or lower-grade gears.
  • Can I use this 17T pinion with any spur gear? — Yes, as long as both the pinion and spur gear are 48DP specification, they will mesh correctly. The total gear ratio is determined by the tooth count of both gears combined; the 17T pinion can be paired with various spur gear sizes to achieve different overall gear ratios for different track conditions or driving styles.
  • How often do pinion gears need replacing? — With proper maintenance and quality components like this Corally pinion, you should expect extended service life. Replace the pinion when you notice teeth becoming worn, rounded, or chipped, or if the gear runs with noticeably more noise or vibration. Regular inspection after each driving session helps you catch wear early.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — This pinion is suitable for any RC car driver, from beginners to experienced racers. However, beginners should ensure their RC car uses 48DP gearing with 3.17mm motor shafts before purchasing. Pinion replacement requires basic mechanical skills and a 1.5mm hex key — if you're unsure how to install it, our team at RC Model Shop can assist you.
