Key Features

  • 7075 T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Construction — This pinion is machined from premium-grade 7075 T6 aluminium, one of the strongest aluminium alloys available, then hard anodised to create a protective surface layer that resists wear, corrosion and damage from track debris, ensuring your investment lasts through countless race days and practise sessions.
  • CNC-Cut Teeth for Perfect Shaping and Concentricity — Every tooth on this pinion is cut using precision CNC machinery to ensure perfect tooth geometry and precise concentricity, which means each tooth engages smoothly with your spur gear without binding, slipping or generating unwanted vibration that can wear components prematurely.
  • 48 DP Module Specification — Designed to the 48 Diametral Pitch standard, this pinion is compatible with all 48 DP geared RC cars, allowing you to swap between tooth counts to adjust your vehicle's gearing ratio and optimise performance for different track layouts and racing conditions.
  • 19 Tooth Count for Mid-Range Performance — The 19-tooth configuration provides a balanced approach to power delivery and top-end speed, making it ideal for drivers seeking a versatile setup that performs well across various track conditions and driving styles without sacrificing acceleration or efficiency.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — This pinion fits all standard 3.17mm diameter motor shafts found on modern brushless RC car motors, ensuring compatibility with the vast majority of contemporary 48 DP geared RC vehicles on the market today.
  • Tooth Count Marking for Easy Identification — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth number, allowing you to quickly identify the correct gear during setup and maintenance without confusion, saving time and reducing the risk of accidental mismatching during a race meeting.
  • Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — The advanced gear-cutting process used in manufacturing ensures every tooth is shaped with absolute precision, reducing micro-vibrations and improving mesh efficiency between the pinion and spur gear for smoother, more consistent power delivery.
  • Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — Machined to extraordinary tolerances, this pinion runs absolutely true without runout, eliminating vibration that can affect handling, wear component life and overall RC car performance on the track.
  • Made in Europe — Manufactured to strict European standards using advanced equipment and quality control processes, ensuring you receive a component that meets the highest engineering standards expected by competitive RC racing teams across the continent.
  • Light Weight Design — The aluminium construction keeps rotational mass minimal, allowing your RC car's motor to accelerate the drivetrain more quickly and efficiently, improving responsiveness and reducing strain on your ESC and motor components.

Technical Performance

This pinion gear represents the pinnacle of precision RC component manufacturing, combining aerospace-grade 7075 T6 hard anodised aluminium with advanced CNC gear-cutting technology to deliver exceptional performance. The 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) specification means this gear is designed to mesh perfectly with 48 DP spur gears, creating a compact, efficient drivetrain suitable for competitive and recreational RC car racing. With 19 teeth and a 3.17mm motor shaft diameter, this pinion is engineered for vehicles requiring a mid-range gear ratio that balances acceleration with top-end speed, making it ideal for tracks with mixed-corner layouts. The hard anodised aluminium surface provides exceptional wear resistance and corrosion protection, ensuring consistent performance throughout extended racing seasons. The teeth are created using a special gear machine that ensures ultra-precise tooth shaping and perfect concentricity, eliminating runout and vibration that would otherwise degrade drivetrain efficiency and component longevity. The 4.00mm teeth width and 9.00mm gear length are optimised for 48 DP applications, while the 1.5mm hex key size for installation ensures compatibility with standard RC tools. Machined to tolerances that meet competitive racing specifications, this pinion delivers smooth, efficient power transfer from your brushless motor to the main drivetrain, reducing heat generation and extending the service life of your entire transmission system.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What RC cars use 48 DP pinion gears? — The 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) specification is used on many modern 1/10 scale touring cars, buggy platforms and competitive racing vehicles. This pinion with 3.17mm shaft diameter fits brushless motors found in contemporary RC car kits and roller chassis designs. Check your vehicle's specifications or motor documentation to confirm 48 DP compatibility before ordering.
  • How do I know which tooth count pinion I need? — The tooth count you choose depends on your desired gear ratio and track characteristics. Lower tooth counts (like 17T or 18T) provide faster acceleration but lower top speed, whilst higher counts (like 20T or 21T) increase top speed at the expense of acceleration. The 19T variant offered here provides a balanced middle ground suitable for mixed-layout tracks and all-around performance.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this pinion is certainly suitable for beginners, replacing pinion gears requires basic mechanical knowledge including motor removal, set screw manipulation and proper installation technique. If you're new to RC car maintenance, we recommend learning how to safely remove your motor before attempting this upgrade, or consulting experienced RC enthusiasts at your local club for guidance.
  • Why choose hard anodised aluminium over steel? — Hard anodised 7075 T6 aluminium offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, providing exceptional durability whilst keeping rotational mass low, which improves motor efficiency and acceleration response. The hard anodised surface resists corrosion and wear better than bare aluminium, and the material is significantly lighter than steel, reducing overall RC car weight and improving performance.
  • How often should I replace this pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and appropriate teeth width for your spur gear, a hard anodised pinion typically lasts through many hundreds of race runs. Inspect for teeth wear, chipping or damage after crashes, and replace if you notice teeth are rounded or damaged, as worn gears cause power loss and premature failure of other drivetrain components.
  • What is the difference between 48 DP and other pitch specifications? — Diametral Pitch (DP) refers to the number of teeth per inch of gear diameter. 48 DP gears are relatively small and are used in compact 1/10 scale applications, whilst larger scales like 1/8 use 32 DP or larger pitches. Using the correct pitch specification for your vehicle is essential for proper mesh and performance.
  • Can I use this pinion with any brushless motor? — This pinion is compatible with any brushless motor featuring a 3.17mm diameter shaft, which is the standard size for most contemporary 1/10 scale RC car motors. Always verify your motor's shaft diameter before purchasing to ensure compatibility.
  • Is this pinion suitable for competitive racing? — Absolutely. This pinion is manufactured to the exacting standards expected by competitive RC racing teams throughout Europe, with precision CNC machining and hard anodising that provide the durability and consistency needed for high-level competition. Many UK racing clubs and competitors rely on Corally components for their race builds.
