Overview

The Associated AS91623 3x35mm Shock Shaft V2 TiN is a precision-engineered replacement component designed for RC enthusiasts and competitive racers who demand longevity and reliability from their RC car suspension systems. This screw-mounted shock shaft is specifically engineered for the shock body AS91579, making it an essential spare part for anyone running Associated RC vehicles across their extensive range of models. Whether you're a dedicated RC racer in the UK competing at the highest levels, a weekend basher pushing your RC car to its limits, or someone building a competition-grade setup, this shock shaft delivers the durability and performance you need to keep your RC car performing at its peak.

The TiN (Titanium Nitride) coating is a professional-grade surface treatment that significantly extends the service life of the shock shaft compared to standard uncoated alternatives. This coating technology is trusted by RC racing teams across the UK and beyond, providing a harder, more wear-resistant surface that maintains smooth operation through countless hours of use. The screw-secured piston design ensures secure attachment and consistent performance, making this a reliable upgrade or replacement component for your Associated RC model. As part of the extensive Associated spares and upgrades range available at RC Model Shop, this shock shaft represents genuine OEM quality that works seamlessly with your existing suspension setup.

Associated has engineered this shock shaft to be compatible with a massive range of their RC vehicles, from the legendary RC10 series through to modern models like the RC10B5M, SC10GT, and B44.3. This broad compatibility makes it a valuable addition to any RC enthusiast's spares collection, whether you're running a buggy, short-course truck, or touring car platform.

Key Features

  • 3x35mm V2 Screw-Mounted Design — This shock shaft uses a proven screw-secured piston mechanism that locks the piston firmly in place, ensuring consistent damping performance and eliminating the possibility of accidental piston separation during intense driving sessions, which is critical for maintaining predictable handling characteristics.
  • TiN Coating for Extended Service Life — The Titanium Nitride coating provides superior wear resistance compared to uncoated shock shafts, meaning you'll enjoy longer intervals between replacements and better value for money over the lifetime of your RC car, making this an investment in durability that competitive racers and serious enthusiasts appreciate.
  • Compatible with AS91579 Shock Body — This shaft is specifically designed to work with the shock body AS91579, ensuring perfect fitment and optimal performance without any modification or adaptation required when installing into your RC suspension system.
  • Not Compatible with E-Clip Shafts — It's important to note that these screw-mounted shafts represent a different design philosophy from E-clip secured alternatives, meaning you cannot mix and match between the two types, ensuring you select the correct specification for your vehicle setup.
  • Factory Team Alternative Available — For buyers who prefer the absolute smoothest action over extended life, Associated offers a Factory Team Chrome-coated version of this same shaft, giving you the flexibility to choose between maximum durability with TiN or optimum smoothness with chrome coating.
  • Genuine Associated OEM Component — This is an authentic Associated Factory original part, guaranteeing compatibility, quality control, and performance that equals or exceeds the specifications of the shock shaft originally equipped on your RC car.

Technical Performance

The Associated AS91623 shock shaft represents decades of suspension engineering expertise from one of the most respected names in competitive RC racing. The 3x35mm dimensions provide the precise balance of shaft diameter and length that Associated has optimised across their entire RC car platform range, ensuring consistent damping feel and response. The V2 designation indicates this is the second generation of this particular design, incorporating refinements and improvements based on real-world competitive feedback from RC racing teams across Europe and beyond. The TiN coating process creates a microscopic layer of titanium nitride on the shaft surface, which is significantly harder than the underlying steel whilst remaining slippery enough to maintain smooth piston movement through the damping fluid. This means the shaft resists the microscopic scoring and corrosion that would otherwise cause binding or inconsistent damping as the piston travels up and down during suspension compression and extension cycles. The screw-secured piston design provides positive mechanical locking, eliminating any possibility of piston creep or movement under the extreme vibration and shock loads experienced during RC racing. When building a competition-grade RC car setup in the UK, specifying the correct shock shaft is just as important as selecting the right damping fluid and spring rates, as a worn or damaged shaft will compromise the entire suspension system's ability to deliver predictable handling and consistent lap times.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a shock shaft and why would I need to replace it? — The shock shaft is the central rod that runs through your RC car's shock absorber, connecting the piston to the external mounting points. Over time, through normal use, shock shafts can become worn, bent, or corroded, which causes inconsistent damping and unpredictable handling. Replacing a damaged shock shaft with a new genuine Associated part is one of the most cost-effective ways to restore your RC car's suspension performance and handling characteristics.
  • What's the difference between the TiN-coated version and the Factory Team Chrome version? — The TiN-coated version (AS91623, which you're looking at) prioritises durability and longevity, with a harder, more wear-resistant surface that extends the life of the shock shaft through heavy use and competitive racing. The Factory Team Chrome alternative prioritises absolute smoothness and consistency of damping feel, making it the choice for drivers who want maximum feedback and the silkiest piston action. Most competitive teams in the UK keep both types in their spares box and choose based on track conditions and driving preferences.
  • Are these compatible with my Associated RC10? — Yes, the AS91623 is compatible with the original RC10 through to modern variants including the RC10B5M. However, always verify your specific model number against the comprehensive compatibility list provided above, or contact our team for confirmation before ordering.
  • Can I use E-clip shock shafts as a substitute for these screw-mounted shafts? — No, absolutely not. Screw-mounted and E-clip secured shafts are fundamentally different designs and are not interchangeable. Using the wrong type could result in piston separation during driving, suspension failure, and loss of vehicle control. Always ensure you specify the correct type for your shock body.
  • How long will these shock shafts last? — The TiN coating significantly extends the service life compared to standard uncoated shafts. In typical recreational use, a quality TiN-coated shock shaft can provide years of reliable performance. In intensive competitive racing, you might replace them more frequently depending on track conditions, but the TiN coating will still noticeably outlast uncoated alternatives.
  • Do I need any special tools to install these shock shafts? — Installation requirements depend on your specific shock design and whether you need to disassemble the shock body to remove the old shaft and install the new one. We recommend consulting your Associated RC car manual or contacting our team at RC Model Shop for model-specific installation guidance.
  • Are these genuine Associated parts? — Yes, the AS91623 is a genuine Associated Factory original part, manufactured to the exact specifications and quality standards that Associated applies to components destined for the competitive RC racing market worldwide.
