Overview
The Associated Clutch Springs 0.85mm for 4-Shoe (RC8B3.1) AS81364 are genuine OEM replacement springs designed specifically for the Team Associated RC8B3.1 racing buggy platform. These clutch springs are essential maintenance items for any RC enthusiast running a 4-shoe clutch system, whether you're a competitive racer or a dedicated weekend basher. The RC8B3.1 is one of Associated's most popular 1/10 scale buggies in the UK RC community, and keeping your clutch system in peak condition is crucial for consistent performance and longevity.
Clutch springs are wear items that gradually lose their tension over time and driving conditions. If you've noticed your RC car's acceleration isn't as crisp as it once was, or if you're hearing unusual slipping sounds from the clutch bell, it's likely time to replace your clutch springs. These genuine Associated springs are manufactured to the exact specifications required by the RC8B3.1, ensuring perfect fitment and reliable performance every time you take your buggy to the track or the backyard. Whether you're preparing for a competitive event or simply maintaining your RC car UK setup, these 0.85mm springs are an affordable and essential upgrade that will restore your clutch's responsiveness and power delivery.
Stocking genuine Associated spares means you can trust the quality and compatibility of every component in your RC8B3.1. Many UK RC retailers stock generic or inferior quality clutch springs, but these official Team Associated parts are engineered to work seamlessly with your buggy's transmission system. With shadow stock usually available for next-day dispatch, getting your buggy back into perfect working order has never been easier.
Key Features
- 0.85mm Spring Specification — This precise spring diameter is engineered specifically for 4-shoe clutch configurations on the RC8B3.1, providing the ideal engagement point and slip characteristics that keep your buggy's power delivery smooth and responsive during acceleration.
- 4-Shoe Clutch Compatible — The 4-shoe clutch system is the standard configuration on modern Associated buggies, and these springs are cut to the exact length and tension rating required for this setup, ensuring perfect clutch behaviour without slippage or premature engagement.
- Genuine Team Associated Component — These are official OEM parts manufactured by Team Associated, not generic replacements, meaning they meet the exact quality standards and specifications that the RC8B3.1 design requires for optimal performance.
- Routine Maintenance Item — Clutch springs should be checked regularly during routine maintenance, as they gradually lose tension with use, directly affecting your buggy's acceleration and responsiveness on the track or in the garden.
- Wear Item Replacement — Whether your springs have worn out through normal use or you're upgrading your entire clutch system, these springs provide a cost-effective way to restore your RC car's performance without replacing the entire clutch bell assembly.
- Easy Installation — These springs integrate seamlessly with the RC8B3.1's clutch system, requiring no modification or additional components, and can be installed in minutes with basic RC tools.
Technical Performance
The clutch system in an RC buggy is one of the most critical components affecting overall performance and drivability. The 0.85mm spring specification is precisely engineered to work with the 4-shoe clutch bell found on Team Associated's RC8B3.1 platform, a proven 1/10 scale off-road buggy that has been a staple of competitive RC racing across the UK and beyond. The clutch system controls engagement between the motor's output and the transmission, allowing the motor to spin freely until it reaches sufficient RPM, at which point the springs and shoes engage to transfer power to the wheels. As clutch springs age, they gradually lose their tension, causing earlier or later engagement than designed, which reduces acceleration response and can lead to wheel spin or sluggish power delivery. The quality of the spring material and its precise diameter directly affect how the clutch performs under acceleration, whether you're racing competitively or bashing casually. These genuine Associated springs maintain the exact tension curve required for the RC8B3.1's motor and gearing configuration, ensuring that every driving session feels consistent and controlled. The engineering behind Team Associated's component specifications comes from decades of RC racing expertise, and using genuine replacement springs rather than generic alternatives ensures you're maintaining the integrity of your buggy's transmission system.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How often should I replace my RC buggy's clutch springs? — Clutch springs are wear items that should be inspected regularly and replaced whenever they lose tension or feel less responsive. Heavy racing use may require replacement every few months, whilst casual weekend bashing might mean replacement every six months to a year. If you notice your RC8B3.1 doesn't accelerate as crisply as it used to, worn clutch springs are often the culprit.
- Will these 0.85mm springs fit my RC car UK setup? — These springs are specifically designed for the Team Associated RC8B3.1 4-shoe clutch system and are not compatible with other buggy models or different clutch configurations. Always verify your RC car model before ordering replacement springs to ensure perfect fitment.
- What is the difference between 0.85mm and other spring sizes? — The diameter of the spring wire directly affects its stiffness and engagement characteristics. Thinner springs engage earlier and more gently, whilst thicker springs engage later with more aggressive power transfer. The 0.85mm specification is optimised for the RC8B3.1's motor and drivetrain balance.
- Are these genuine Associated parts or aftermarket copies? — These are genuine OEM Team Associated parts manufactured to official specifications, not aftermarket or generic alternatives. The part number AS81364 confirms authenticity, and purchasing from authorised UK RC retailers ensures you receive genuine components.
- Can I use these springs on other RC buggies? — Whilst the springs might physically fit other 4-shoe clutch systems, they are engineered specifically for the RC8B3.1's motor, gearing and transmission characteristics. Using them on different buggy models may result in poor clutch engagement and reduced performance.
- How do I know if my clutch springs need replacing? — Signs of worn clutch springs include sluggish acceleration, delayed engagement when you apply the throttle, increased wheel spin at low speeds, and a generally unresponsive feel compared to when your buggy was new. If your RC car feels like it's lost its punch, fresh clutch springs often restore the crisp power delivery you remember.
