Overview

The Associated Front Springs V2 Green 4.9lb/in (AS81222) are precision suspension components designed specifically for fine-tuning the handling characteristics of your Associated RC8B3, RC8B3.1, or RC8B3.2 buggy. These front springs represent the latest V2 design iteration from Team Associated, one of the most respected manufacturers in the RC hobby. Whether you're a competitive racer looking to dial in your setup at the track, or an enthusiast seeking to optimise your RC car UK performance, these springs offer a straightforward yet effective solution for suspension tuning. The 4.9 lb/in spring rate provides a balanced approach to front suspension compliance, making these springs suitable for a variety of track conditions and driving styles.

Front springs are one of the most critical tuning components in any RC buggy setup, directly influencing how your vehicle responds to bumps, maintains traction through corners, and transfers weight during acceleration and braking. By selecting the correct spring rate, you can dramatically improve your RC car's handling, stability, and overall performance. The Associated V2 Front Springs come in a distinctive green colour that makes them easily identifiable in your spares box, and they're engineered to work seamlessly with the RC8 range of buggies, ensuring compatibility and reliability out of the box.

For anyone investing in a quality RC buggy UK setup, having a selection of different spring rates on hand is essential for tracking down your optimal handling package. These springs allow you to experiment with suspension geometry without committing to expensive chassis modifications, making them an intelligent upgrade choice for both beginners learning about RC tuning and experienced competitors refining their setups.

Technical Performance

The Associated Front Springs V2 represent a precision engineering solution to one of the most important aspects of RC buggy tuning: suspension compliance. Spring rate, measured in lb/in (pounds per inch), directly determines how much force is required to compress the spring by one inch. At 4.9 lb/in, these springs occupy the mid-range of stiffness options available for the RC8 range, making them an excellent starting point for drivers exploring their buggy's handling potential. The V2 design incorporates refinements from Team Associated's extensive racing development program, ensuring that the springs maintain consistent performance characteristics across repeated compression cycles and varying temperature conditions. The bright green colour is not merely cosmetic; it serves a practical purpose in helping you visually distinguish spring rates at a glance, reducing the risk of accidentally installing incorrect springs during track-side setup changes. These springs are manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring that each spring in a pair delivers virtually identical performance, critical for maintaining balanced suspension geometry and predictable handling characteristics. Whether you're running on dirt tracks, asphalt surfaces, or mixed-condition circuits, the ability to adjust your front spring rate is one of the most effective tuning tools available in your setup arsenal. The engineering precision behind these springs means you can have confidence that any handling changes you observe after swapping springs are genuine tuning improvements rather than inconsistencies in the components themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a spring rate and why does it matter for my RC buggy? — Spring rate (measured in lb/in) determines how stiff or compliant your suspension is. A higher number means a stiffer spring; a lower number means a softer, more compliant spring. Spring rate directly affects how your buggy responds to track bumps, how it maintains traction through corners, and how weight transfers during acceleration and braking. Choosing the correct spring rate for your track conditions and driving style is one of the most important tuning adjustments you can make.
  • Are the Associated V2 Front Springs V2 suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. These springs are an excellent choice for RC enthusiasts learning about suspension tuning. Unlike more extreme spring rates that might feel too stiff or too soft, the 4.9 lb/in rate provides a balanced platform that works well across a range of conditions. Beginners can use these springs as a baseline and then experiment with softer or stiffer options once they understand how spring rate affects handling.
  • What compatibility do these springs have? — The Associated Front Springs V2 4.9lb/in are designed specifically for the RC8B3, RC8B3.1, and RC8B3.2 buggy platforms. Always verify your exact model number before purchasing to ensure compatibility, as different RC8 variants may use different suspension geometry.
  • How do I know if I need softer or stiffer springs? — If your buggy feels like the front end is bouncing excessively or wallowing through corners, you may need stiffer springs. If your buggy feels harsh and doesn't absorb bumps well, you may need softer springs. The 4.9 lb/in rate is a good middle ground; by swapping to different rates, you can dial in the perfect balance for your track and driving style.
  • How often should I replace my front springs? — Springs don't typically wear out like tyres or bearings, but they can lose their temper (spring rate) over time with repeated use, especially if they've been heavily crashed or compressed. If you notice your handling has changed and you've made no other setup changes, replacing springs is a good troubleshooting step. As spares, it's worth having backup springs on hand for critical races.
  • Do these springs come as a pair? — Yes, these springs are supplied as a pair (left and right), ready to install on your RC8B3, RC8B3.1, or RC8B3.2 buggy's front suspension.
