Overview
Upgrade your RC car's suspension performance with the Traxxas Ball studs, aluminium, hard-anodised, PTFE-coated (4 pcs) TRX5529X. These precision-engineered ball studs are specifically designed for inner camber link mounting and represent a significant improvement over standard steel components. Whether you're running a Traxxas Jato or another compatible RC model, these aluminium ball studs deliver the lightweight performance and smooth operation that serious RC enthusiasts demand. As a dedicated RC car UK retailer, RC Model Shop stocks genuine Traxxas replacement parts and upgrade components that help you get the most from your ready to run RC vehicle or competition-grade build.
The engineering behind these ball studs makes them an essential upgrade for anyone serious about suspension tuning and performance optimisation. Not only will these aluminium ball studs make your RC model look sharper with their sleek, hard-anodised finish, they're significantly lighter than stock steel ball studs, which helps reduce unsprung weight and improve handling characteristics. This weight reduction translates to better acceleration, improved braking response, and more responsive steering — all crucial factors when you're pushing your RC car to its limits on the track or in the garden.
Built to Traxxas's exacting standards, these ball studs are an investment in durability and performance that will serve you well whether you're a weekend basher, a competitive racer, or an RC hobbyist who demands the best. The hard-anodised aluminium construction ensures excellent corrosion resistance and longevity, while the PTFE-coating technology sets these apart from inferior aftermarket alternatives. Available now at RC Model Shop, your trusted UK RC retailer for Traxxas spares and upgrades.
Key Features
- Aluminium Construction — Made from lightweight aluminium rather than heavier steel, these ball studs reduce overall unsprung weight on your RC suspension, leading to improved acceleration, better handling, and more responsive control during driving.
- Hard-Anodised Finish — The hard-anodising process creates a protective oxide layer on the aluminium surface that resists corrosion, scratching, and wear, ensuring these ball studs maintain their appearance and performance even after extensive use and exposure to outdoor conditions.
- PTFE-Coating Technology — The special PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coating applied to these ball studs dramatically reduces friction between the ball stud and the suspension linkage, allowing your suspension arms to pivot as smoothly as possible with minimal resistance.
- Inner Camber Link Mounting — These ball studs are specifically engineered for inner camber link mounting applications, ensuring precise fitment and optimal suspension geometry for improved cornering performance and tyre contact patch consistency.
- Set of Four — This pack contains four ball studs, providing the quantity you need for a complete set or allowing you to maintain spare parts for your RC car collection.
- OEM Traxxas Quality — As genuine Traxxas components manufactured to original equipment manufacturer specifications, these ball studs guarantee compatibility and the same quality standards as your original RC vehicle.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas Ball studs TRX5529X represent a thoughtfully engineered suspension upgrade that demonstrates why material selection and surface treatment matter in RC car performance. By switching from standard steel ball studs to these lightweight aluminium alternatives, you're reducing rotating mass and unsprung weight, which has a measurable impact on how your RC car accelerates, decelerates, and responds to steering inputs. The hard-anodised finish isn't merely cosmetic — it's a functional treatment that creates a microscopically hardened surface layer protecting the softer aluminium underneath from the wear and tear of constant suspension articulation. The PTFE-coating is the real performance secret here. PTFE (the same material used in non-stick cookware) has an extremely low coefficient of friction, meaning the ball joint connections operate with minimal resistance. This reduces friction-induced wear on both the ball stud and the suspension arm holes, prolongs component life, and most importantly, delivers the smooth, predictable suspension action that transforms how your RC car handles on the track. These benefits are particularly noticeable if you're running a high-performance RC model or competing in organised RC racing events where suspension responsiveness directly impacts lap times. The engineering philosophy behind these ball studs reflects Traxxas's commitment to performance — they've identified a component that is commonly overlooked in suspension setups and upgraded it with better materials and surface treatments. For any RC enthusiast in the UK looking to squeeze extra performance from their machine, these ball studs are a cost-effective way to improve suspension efficiency and reduce maintenance intervals.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What are ball studs used for in RC cars and why would I need to upgrade them? — Ball studs connect your suspension arms to the chassis through ball joints, allowing smooth pivoting motion essential for suspension travel. Stock ball studs are often made from heavier steel and may have higher friction. Upgrading to these lightweight, PTFE-coated aluminium studs reduces weight, decreases friction, and improves suspension responsiveness, resulting in better handling, faster acceleration, and more predictable cornering characteristics during driving.
- Will these ball studs fit my RC car model? — These ball studs are specifically designed for inner camber link mounting on compatible Traxxas models, particularly the Traxxas Jato and other vehicles using this suspension configuration. Check your vehicle's manual or contact our RC Model Shop team to confirm compatibility with your specific RC model before purchasing.
- What is PTFE-coating and why does it matter? — PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is an extremely slippery synthetic polymer that reduces friction between moving parts. In these ball studs, the PTFE-coating creates a low-friction surface where the ball joint connects to the suspension arm, allowing smoother pivoting action with less resistance and wear compared to uncoated steel components.
- How much weight do these save compared to standard steel ball studs? — Whilst exact weight reduction depends on your specific vehicle, aluminium is approximately one-third the density of steel, meaning these ball studs deliver noticeable weight savings that reduce unsprung weight and improve suspension responsiveness and acceleration characteristics.
- Are these ball studs durable for regular use? — Yes, the hard-anodised finish creates a protective oxide layer that resists corrosion and wear, whilst the PTFE-coating reduces friction-induced degradation. These studs are engineered for durability in both casual bashing and competitive racing environments.
- Do I need to install all four ball studs at once? — You can install them one at a time as replacements or perform a complete set replacement for consistent performance across all inner camber link mounting points. Having spare ball studs on hand is a good practice for serious RC enthusiasts.
- Will upgrading to these ball studs noticeably improve my RC car's performance? — Yes, reducing weight and friction in the suspension system produces measurable improvements in acceleration, cornering response, and braking performance. These benefits are most noticeable on high-performance RC cars and in competitive racing situations where suspension efficiency directly impacts lap times.
