Overview

Transform your 1/10 scale Apex2 on-road car into a formidable off-road rally machine with the Team Associated Apex 2 Rally Conversion Kit (AS31933). This comprehensive upgrade package is designed for RC enthusiasts in the UK who want to extend the versatility of their existing Apex2 platform, enabling confident performance across mixed-surface rally stages. Whether you're a weekend basher looking to explore new terrain or a competitive racer seeking to dominate rally events, this conversion kit delivers the suspension travel, traction control and durability needed to conquer challenging off-road conditions.

The Apex 2 Rally Conversion Kit represents Team Associated's commitment to modular, upgradeable RC design. Rather than requiring you to purchase an entirely new vehicle, this kit allows you to unlock off-road capability from your current Apex2 or Apex2 Sport RTR platform. The extensive component overhaul includes purpose-built rally shocks, reinforced suspension geometry, upgraded differentials and chassis modifications that work together to deliver a genuinely transformed driving experience. This is the perfect solution for UK RC car enthusiasts looking to maximise the potential of their existing investment.

Available now from RC Model Shop, this conversion kit comes highly recommended for anyone wanting to transition from on-road to mixed-surface rally driving without the expense of purchasing a completely new ready to run RC car.

Key Features

  • Apex2 Rally Shocks with Extended Shafts — The longer shock shafts and aluminium threaded bodies feature a larger oil capacity than standard road shocks, allowing the suspension system to absorb and dissipate energy from rough off-road terrain more effectively, resulting in smoother handling and improved comfort over bumps and obstacles.
  • Carbon Fibre Shock Towers with Tower Covers — These upgraded towers allow for taller shock mounting positions that increase overall suspension travel, giving the Apex2 the geometry needed to handle dramatic elevation changes and maintain consistent contact with uneven surfaces during rally competition.
  • Lower +3mm Arm Mounts — By widening the lower suspension mounting points by 3mm from the vehicle's centre line, this geometry change improves lateral stability and increases traction during cornering and acceleration, critical factors for rally performance across varied terrain.
  • 5.8mm Ball Stud Set — These taller ball studs provide increased clearance between suspension components and the chassis, allowing greater link movement and flex during articulation, which translates to better wheel contact and grip on rocky or deeply rutted surfaces.
  • Updated Apex2 Chassis with Chamfering — The new chassis incorporates chamfering (angled edges) that adds additional down-travel capability and enhanced suspension articulation, enabling the Apex2 to compress and extend further than the standard on-road configuration.
  • Apex2 CVAs (Constant Velocity Axles) — The front CVAs deliver more predictable on-power traction and a more stable, controllable driving feel when accelerating out of corners or climbing steep slopes, a significant advantage in rally conditions where traction is paramount.
  • Sealed, Tunable Apex2 Centre Diff Set (72T 48P) — This sealed centre differential increases traction and on-power stability in off-road conditions, whilst remaining tunable so experienced users can fine-tune the balance between acceleration responsiveness and overall traction control to suit specific rally stages and driving preferences.

Technical Performance

The Team Associated Apex 2 Rally Conversion Kit represents a comprehensive engineering upgrade designed to transition a lightweight, low-slung on-road platform into a capable rally machine. The aluminium threaded shock bodies with expanded oil capacity work in conjunction with the carbon fibre shock towers and extended suspension geometry to provide the compliance and articulation necessary for off-road driving. The +3mm lower arm mount geometry change widens the track width of the vehicle, improving stability and load distribution during cornering whilst the upgraded CVAs and sealed centre differential work together to optimise power delivery and traction. The sealed centre differential, specified as 72T 48P, provides a sealed, tunable setup that allows drivers to adjust the locking characteristics to balance acceleration feel with overall stability. The chassis modifications, including the new chamfering, were engineered specifically to accommodate the increased suspension travel requirements of rally driving, ensuring that wheel articulation isn't compromised by chassis interference. All components in this kit are direct-fit parts for Apex2 and Apex2 Sport RTR platforms (models AS30123-30129 and AS30123C-30129C), meaning assembly is straightforward for users with basic RC mechanical knowledge, though some familiarity with suspension setup and differential tuning is beneficial. The upgrade prioritises durability and off-road capability without sacrificing the precise handling characteristics that made the Apex2 platform popular amongst RC enthusiasts in the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I fit the Team Associated Apex 2 Rally Conversion Kit to my current Apex2 car? — Yes, provided your vehicle is an Apex2 or Apex2 Sport RTR model (AS30123-30129 or AS30123C-30129C). The components in this kit are designed as direct-fit parts for these platforms, making installation straightforward for users with basic RC mechanical experience. You will need to remove the on-road suspension components and replace them with the rally-specific parts included in this conversion kit.
  • What shock fluid and centre diff fluid do I need to complete this conversion? — The kit requires shock fluid for the rally shocks and centre differential fluid, but these are not supplied with the conversion kit and must be purchased separately. The specific viscosity and type will depend on your preferred suspension setup and driving conditions; we recommend consulting Team Associated's technical documentation or contacting our expert team at RC Model Shop for personalised recommendations based on your driving style and local terrain.
  • Is the Apex 2 Rally Conversion Kit suitable for beginners? — This kit is best suited to RC hobbyists with at least basic mechanical knowledge of RC car assembly and setup. The conversion requires disassembly of existing suspension components, careful installation of upgraded parts, and tuning of the differential setup. If you're new to RC mechanics, we recommend either learning the fundamentals with a simpler upgrade first or seeking guidance from experienced RC enthusiasts; our team at RC Model Shop are happy to answer technical questions.
  • Will this conversion kit give me better off-road performance than the standard Apex2? — Absolutely. The rally conversion kit includes multiple performance enhancements specifically engineered for off-road use: longer shock travel, improved suspension geometry with the +3mm arm mounts, upgraded CVAs for better traction control, and a tunable centre differential. Together, these components significantly increase the vehicle's capability on rough terrain, mixed-surface rally stages, and rocky courses compared to the standard on-road configuration.
  • Do I need any special tools to install this rally conversion kit? — Installation requires standard RC car tools including hex drivers, a small wrench set, and screwdrivers. The parts are designed for direct fitment, so specialised tools are not necessary, though a socket set will make certain fasteners easier to work with. Most experienced RC hobbyists will find the installation straightforward; beginners should allow adequate time and consider consulting assembly guides or experienced RC friends.
  • Can I still use my Apex2 on-road after converting it to rally specification? — The rally conversion is designed as a permanent upgrade rather than a reversible modification. Once installed, the taller shock towers, extended suspension travel, and modified chassis geometry optimise the vehicle for off-road use. To use the car for on-road racing again, you would need to reinstall the original on-road suspension components, which are not included in this kit.
