Overview
The Associated Factory Team Aluminium Pinion Gear 29T 48DP with 1/8" shaft (AS1347) is a precision-engineered hop-up component designed for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand the best performance from their RC cars. Whether you're running an Associated TC7.1, B6.1, B6.2, T6.1, T6.2, or any compatible 1/8-scale RC buggy or on-road car, this lightweight pinion gear delivers noticeable improvements over standard equipment. Built from premium 7075-T6 aluminium and finished with hard anodising, this is the go-to upgrade for racers, bashers and weekend warriors looking to extract every last bit of performance from their RC vehicle.
Pinion gears are one of the most frequently replaced components in RC racing and bashing, as they directly influence your car's acceleration, top speed and overall drivetrain efficiency. The 29-tooth configuration at 48-pitch (48DP) is a popular middle-ground option that balances straight-line speed with acceleration, making it ideal for mixed terrain or users who want a versatile setup. By upgrading from standard plastic or lower-grade metal pinions to this Factory Team option, you'll enjoy improved durability, faster gear changes during setup sessions, and the confidence that comes with using OEM-quality components trusted by competitive RC racers.
Available now in stock at RC Model Shop, this pinion gear represents genuine value for money and is an essential spare to have on hand if you run an Associated 1/8-scale buggy or touring car.
Key Features
- Factory Team Specification — This is an official Associated Factory Team upgrade component, meaning it meets the same engineering standards and quality control as parts used in competitive RC racing worldwide.
- 7075-T6 Aluminium Construction — The pinnacle of aluminium alloys, 7075-T6 is significantly stronger and more durable than standard alloys, resisting wear from continuous mesh with spur gears and maintaining tooth geometry far longer than plastic alternatives.
- Hard Anodised Finish — The anodising process creates a protective oxide layer on the aluminium surface that dramatically extends the component's service life, resists corrosion, and maintains a professional appearance even after thousands of hours of use.
- Two Set-Screw Holes — Dual fixing points ensure the pinion gear grips securely to your 1/8" motor shaft, eliminating any risk of slippage under acceleration or heavy braking, which is critical for consistent lap times and reliable performance.
- Laser-Etched Tooth Count — The "29T" marking is precisely laser-etched into the gear body, making it instantly recognisable at a glance during setup changes, pit stops or when managing multiple pinion options in your spares box.
- 48 Diametral Pitch (48DP) Standard — This pitch specification ensures perfect mesh compatibility with Associated spur gears and drivetrain components, guaranteeing smooth power delivery without binding or excessive wear.
- 1/8" Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed specifically for 1/8-scale RC cars with standard 3.2mm (1/8 inch) motor shafts, ensuring a perfect fit first time every time across the full range of Associated buggies and touring cars.
Technical Performance
The Associated Factory Team Aluminium Pinion Gear 29T 48DP represents the pinnacle of pinion gear engineering for 1/8-scale RC cars. Manufactured from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminium, this material is approximately three times stronger than standard alloys, meaning it resists tooth stripping, shearing and deformation under even the most aggressive driving conditions. The 29-tooth count at 48-pitch delivers a mathematically precise gear ratio when paired with compatible spur gears, providing the ideal balance between acceleration and top speed for most drivers. The hard anodised coating applied to the aluminium surface creates a microscopic ceramic-like barrier that protects against corrosion, reduces friction losses, and extends service life by thousands of hours compared to untreated metal or plastic pinions. Two set-screw holes allow you to secure the gear to your 1/8" motor shaft with absolute confidence, preventing any creep or rotation that would otherwise cause inconsistent power delivery and unpredictable handling. The laser-etched tooth count marking is not merely decorative — it serves a practical purpose, allowing you to quickly verify your current gearing setup without needing to count teeth manually or consult documentation. This attention to detail is typical of Factory Team components and explains why they're the preferred choice of professional RC racers, track operators and serious hobbyists across the UK and worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the 29T pinion gear suitable for beginners and casual bashers? — Absolutely. The 29-tooth configuration is one of the most versatile options available, offering a balanced blend of acceleration and top speed. It's ideal if you're not sure whether you prefer a faster or quicker-accelerating setup. Beginners will appreciate how this tooth count works well across different terrain types and driving styles. If you later find you want more speed, you can drop to a 27T, or if you want quicker acceleration, you can try a 31T.
- What is the difference between this 29T and other tooth counts in the Associated range? — Lower tooth counts (17T-26T) produce higher top speeds but slower acceleration, making them ideal for smooth, wide-open tracks. The 29T sits in the middle of the range, offering balanced performance. Higher tooth counts (30T-34T) reduce top speed slightly but improve acceleration and pulling power, suiting more technical courses or drivers who prefer responsive handling. The choice depends entirely on your track layout and driving style.
- How often will I need to replace this pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and lubrication, a quality aluminium pinion like this one will last considerably longer than plastic alternatives — potentially thousands of hours of use. Most competitive racers replace their pinions every 50-100 hours of actual running time as part of regular drivetrain maintenance, though casual bashers may get significantly longer service. Regular inspection for tooth damage or wear is recommended.
- What motor size does this fit? — This pinion gear is designed for 1/8-scale motors with a standard 1/8" (3.2mm) shaft diameter. It's compatible with brushless motors commonly found in Associated 1/8-scale buggies and touring cars. Check your car's manual or motor specifications to confirm your motor has a 1/8" shaft before purchasing.
- Can I use this pinion on other brands of RC cars? — Whilst this is an Associated component designed for Associated vehicles, it may fit other 1/8-scale RC cars if they use a 1/8" motor shaft and 48-pitch drivetrain. However, we recommend checking your vehicle's manual or contacting RC Model Shop before attempting to use it on non-Associated models.
- How do I install this pinion gear? — Slide the pinion gear onto your motor shaft, aligning it with the set-screw holes. Tighten the two set screws firmly using the appropriate hex key (usually 1.5mm or 2mm) to secure it against the motor shaft. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the shaft. Consult your Associated manual for exact torque specifications.
- Is 48DP the same as MOD 1? — No, these are different specifications. 48DP (48 Diametral Pitch) and MOD 1 (Module 1) are used in different regional standards. This 29T gear is 48DP pitch, which is standard for most Associated 1/8-scale cars. The separate MOD 1 range is for different vehicle types.
- Why should I upgrade from a standard pinion to this Factory Team version? — Factory Team gears offer superior durability, improved gear mesh consistency, longer service life, and are the choice of competitive racers worldwide. The hard anodised finish resists corrosion and wear better than untreated alternatives, and the precision engineering ensures your RC car performs at its absolute best. It's a sensible investment that pays dividends in performance and reliability.
