Technical Performance
The Savox SV1254MG+ represents a significant engineering achievement in compact servo design, delivering performance that belies its diminutive dimensions. The coreless motor design eliminates the central motor shaft found in traditional servos, resulting in faster response times and reduced inertia—crucial factors in competitive 1/10 on-road RC racing where thousandths of a second can determine race outcomes. At 7.4V operation, the servo achieves 15kg of torque with a 0.085-second transit time per 60 degrees, providing the kind of responsiveness that serious RC drivers demand. The steel gear train ensures this performance remains consistent even under the demanding conditions of high-speed cornering and aggressive steering inputs typical of RC car racing. With a running current of 180mA at 7.4V and a modest 5mA idle current, the servo is relatively efficient, though stall current of 6400mA at 7.4V indicates the substantial power available when the servo encounters resistance. The 333Hz refresh rate ensures smooth, jitter-free servo movement that translates directly to improved control precision in your RC vehicle. For applications requiring even more power, 6V operation still delivers respectable 12kg torque with 0.11-second speed, making this servo adaptable to various battery configurations. The aluminium case effectively dissipates heat generated during continuous use, essential for maintaining performance during extended RC driving sessions. The servo's 46-gram weight represents a critical advantage in 1/10 on-road RC cars, where minimising unsprung mass improves handling and reduces energy consumption. The 300mm wire length provides flexibility in mounting location within your RC chassis, and the standard 25-tooth spline output ensures broad compatibility with servo horns and linkages available throughout the UK RC market.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Savox SV1254MG+ suitable for competitive 1/10 on-road RC racing? — Absolutely. The combination of 0.085-second speed and 15kg torque at 7.4V makes this servo ideal for competitive racing applications where precision steering response is paramount. The coreless motor design and digital circuitry provide the responsiveness that serious competitors demand, and the low-profile design fits perfectly in modern on-road RC car chassis designs used in UK RC racing.
- What's the difference between the SV1254MG+ and the standard SV1254MG servo? — The Plus ("+ ") designation indicates the addition of Soft Start Mode technology and Sanwa SSR compatibility. These enhancements improve durability by reducing shock loads during servo movement and expand radio system compatibility, making the SV1254MG+ more versatile for different RC setups and builds.
- What voltage should I operate this servo at? — This servo is capable of operating at multiple voltages, with specifications provided for both 6V and 7.4V operation. For maximum performance, use a 7.4V LiPo battery (2S configuration), which delivers the full 15kg torque and 0.085-second speed. For more modest performance requirements, 6V operation is also supported. Do not exceed 8.4V unless your servo is specifically rated for higher voltages, as exceeding maximum voltage can damage the servo's circuitry.
- What is the stall current, and why does it matter? — The stall current is 6400mA at 7.4V, representing the maximum current draw when the servo encounters resistance or reaches its mechanical limit. This specification is important because it helps you size your battery and speed controller appropriately—your ESC must be capable of delivering this current without voltage sag or damage, ensuring reliable servo operation in your RC car.
- What servo horns and linkages are compatible? — The SV1254MG+ features a 25-tooth spline output shaft, which is a standard fitment in the RC hobby. This means you can use any servo horn with 25-tooth spline compatibility, providing broad compatibility with servo hardware available in UK RC shops and online retailers.
- What is the operating temperature range? — This servo is rated for operation between -10°C and 50°C, making it suitable for RC use throughout the UK's varied climate, including winter RC bashing sessions and summer racing events. However, avoid using the servo outside this temperature range, as performance may be compromised at temperature extremes.
- Is this servo waterproof? — The specifications provided do not indicate waterproof sealing, so this servo should be protected from direct water exposure. If you're using this servo in a water-resistant RC car, ensure it is mounted in a protected location and consider using servo tape or additional weatherproofing if desired.
- How much current does this servo draw at idle? — At idle, the servo draws just 5mA, making it extremely efficient when not actively moving. This low standby current consumption is beneficial for battery life between charging sessions, particularly important for RC racing events where multiple heats require fresh battery capacity.
- What pulse width ranges does this servo support? — The servo operates with a standard operating travel of 90 degrees (1000-2000 microseconds) but can achieve approximately 160 degrees of maximum travel with a pulse width range of 700-2300 microseconds. The neutral position is 1500 microseconds. These specifications allow advanced users to programme extended servo throw if their RC application requires it.
- Is the SV1254MG+ compatible with Sanwa radio systems? — Yes, the Plus ("+ ") designation specifically indicates native Sanwa SSR compatibility, meaning this servo integrates seamlessly with Sanwa radio equipment without requiring additional adapters or programming workarounds, simplifying setup for Sanwa system users.
