The new Plus/"+" designation brings enhanced features including Soft Start Mode and Sanwa SSR compatibility, making it more versatile than ever before. Whether you're building your first RC model or replacing a worn servo in an existing setup, the SH0254+ provides the control precision and mechanical durability you need to fly with confidence.

RC servo selection can be overwhelming, but the SH0254+ simplifies the decision by offering proven performance across multiple voltage ranges, making it suitable for 4.8V and 6V battery systems commonly used in RC aircraft and helicopter applications throughout the UK RC hobby community.

Key Features

  • Brushed DC Motor — The servo utilises a reliable brushed DC motor design that provides consistent torque delivery and straightforward operation, making it an ideal choice for RC applications where predictable performance is essential and simple motor control is preferred.
  • Digital Servo Circuitry — Unlike analogue servos, digital circuitry enables faster response times, greater precision in holding positions, and improved resistance to signal jitter, which translates to more accurate control inputs on your RC aircraft or helicopter.
  • Hybrid Gear Train Construction — The combination of industrial plastic and metal gears creates a gear train that balances weight savings with durability, reducing mechanical wear whilst maintaining the smooth operation that RC pilots demand.
  • Aluminium Middle Case — The servo features an aluminium middle case that dissipates heat more effectively than plastic-only designs, allowing the servo to maintain cooler operating temperatures during extended flight sessions, which helps preserve motor and gear longevity.
  • Lightweight Design — At just 15.8 grams, this micro servo minimises weight addition to your RC model, a critical consideration for park flyer aircraft and small helicopters where every gram affects flight performance and battery runtime.
  • Dual Ball Bearing Support — The servo incorporates 2 ball bearings that reduce friction in the output shaft assembly, enabling smoother operation, faster response times, and reduced mechanical wear over thousands of servo cycles.
  • Compact Dimensions — Measuring just 22.8 x 12.0 x 29.4mm, the SH0254+ fits into tight spaces typical of small RC aircraft and helicopter fuselages, making it the go-to choice for builders working with compact airframe designs.
  • Multi-Voltage Compatibility — This servo operates across both 4.8V and 6V systems, giving you flexibility in battery selection and allowing you to optimise performance based on your specific RC model requirements and available power sources.
  • Soft Start Mode — The new Plus model includes Soft Start Mode, which gradually ramps servo movement during power-up, reducing mechanical shock and extending component lifespan whilst improving the longevity of servo linkages and control surfaces.
  • Sanwa SSR Compatibility — The Plus version supports Sanwa SSR (Super Speed Response) protocol, expanding compatibility with modern RC radio systems and allowing integration with advanced receiver technologies used in competitive RC flying.
  • Replaceable Gear Sets — Should the gears require maintenance or upgrade, optional metal gear sets are available separately, allowing you to customise the servo to your specific performance needs or extend its service life with upgraded components.
  • Standard 21-Tooth Spline Output — The servo uses industry-standard 21-tooth spline output shaft, ensuring compatibility with virtually all aftermarket servo horns and control linkage systems available in the UK RC market.

Technical Performance

The Savox SH0254+ delivers exceptional performance metrics that make it suitable for serious RC applications. Operating at 6 volts, this servo achieves an impressive speed rating of 0.13 seconds per 60 degrees of rotation, enabling rapid response to control inputs—a critical requirement for helicopter swash plate servos and quick-response park flyer control surfaces. The torque output reaches 3.9kg (54.2 ounce-inches) at 6V, providing sufficient force to move control surfaces even under moderate aerodynamic loads, whilst still maintaining the lightweight profile essential for small RC models. At 4.8V operation, performance slightly decreases to 0.16 seconds per 60 degrees and 3.1kg torque, but remains highly capable for many applications. The servo's brushed motor design with digital signal processing offers an optimal refresh rate of 240Hz, ensuring smooth, jitter-free servo movement. The aluminium middle case construction provides superior heat dissipation compared to all-plastic designs, allowing the servo to maintain consistent performance during extended use without thermal throttling. The 1-ball bearing main shaft and additional bearing support reduce friction losses, translating raw motor power directly into smooth, efficient output shaft rotation. With a wire length of 250mm (plus or minus 5mm), installation flexibility is maximised, and the servo accepts pulse width signals ranging from 750 to 2250 microseconds for a maximum travel of approximately 145 degrees, with neutral position set at 1500 microseconds. Running current consumption of 240mA at 6V and idle current of just 5mA demonstrates efficient power management, important for battery-powered RC models where every milliamp-hour counts toward flight time.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Savox SH0254+ suitable for small RC helicopters and 450-size heli setups? — Yes, absolutely. This micro servo is specifically designed for 450-size helicopters and small rotorcraft applications. Its lightweight construction (15.8g), high speed response (0.13 seconds at 6V), and adequate torque (3.9kg at 6V) make it ideal for swash plate servo duties on small helicopters used throughout the UK RC helicopter community. Many experienced heli pilots trust this servo for reliable, precise cyclic and collective control inputs.
  • What voltage battery systems does the SH0254+ require? — The servo operates across two voltage ranges: 4.8V and 6V. Most RC helicopter and small aircraft systems use either a single 2S LiPo battery pack (nominal 7.4V, down-regulated), standard 4.8V NiMH packs, or regulated 6V power supplies. Check your specific RC model's power requirements and ensure your battery system can provide stable voltage within these operating ranges for optimal servo performance.
  • How fast is this servo and what does 0.13 seconds per 60 degrees mean? — The 0.13-second speed rating at 6V refers to the time required for the servo output shaft to rotate 60 degrees in response to a full control input. This is considered very fast for a micro servo, enabling rapid correction inputs during helicopter flight or quick response to control surface deflection commands on park flyer aircraft, providing pilots with highly responsive handling characteristics.
  • Can I upgrade the gears to metal components? — Yes, the SH0254+ can be upgraded with metal gears using the optional gear set designed for the SH0255MG model, available separately as part number SGSH0255MG. This upgrade increases durability for high-stress applications whilst the servo retains its original specifications otherwise. Additionally, standard replacement gear sets (SGSH0254) with bearings are available should maintenance be required.
  • What does the Soft Start Mode feature do? — Soft Start Mode, included in the new Plus designation, gradually ramps servo movement during power-up rather than applying full torque immediately. This reduces mechanical shock to internal gears and servo linkages, extending component lifespan and reducing wear on delicate control surface mechanisms—particularly beneficial for scale aircraft where smooth, realistic control movement is desired.
  • What is the difference between the SH0254+ and the original SH0254? — The SH0254+ (Plus model) includes two new features: Soft Start Mode for smoother power-up operation, and Sanwa SSR protocol compatibility for integration with modern Sanwa RC radio systems. The original SH0254 is now discontinued, and Savox recommends the SH0254+ as the direct replacement. Specifications otherwise remain identical, with the same speed, torque, dimensions, and weight characteristics.
  • How many ball bearings does this servo have? — The SH0254+ incorporates 2 ball bearings (2BB) in its output shaft assembly, reducing friction and enabling smooth, precise shaft rotation. This bearing support is crucial for minimising mechanical noise and maintaining accurate servo positioning during extended RC flying sessions.
  • What is the operating temperature range for this servo? — The servo operates reliably between 14°F and 122°F (-10°C to 50°C), covering typical indoor and outdoor RC flying conditions in the UK. Extended operation near temperature extremes may affect performance, so avoid storing or flying the servo in excessively cold weather without allowing it to warm to room temperature first.
  • Is this servo waterproof or weather-resistant? — The SH0254+ is not explicitly designed as waterproof, and no IP rating is specified. Whilst it can tolerate light moisture exposure typical of outdoor RC flying, it should not be submerged or deliberately exposed to heavy rain. For amphibious or waterproof RC applications, consider dedicated waterproof servo alternatives.
  • What spare parts and replacements are available for the SH0254+? — Savox offers two main replacement sets: the SGSH0254 servo gear set with bearings for standard maintenance, and the SGSH0255MG metal gear set for metal gear upgrades. Additionally, the CSH0254 provides replacement top and bottom servo cases with mounting screws, allowing full restoration of damaged servos.
