Technical Performance
The SC1256TG+ represents a pinnacle of servo engineering, combining coreless motor technology with precision titanium gear construction to deliver performance that rivals servos costing significantly more. At 6.0V, the servo produces 20kg-cm of torque whilst maintaining an incredibly fast 0.15-second response time for 60-degree movements, a combination that provides both the holding power and responsiveness demanded by competitive RC drivers. The coreless motor architecture eliminates the rotating can used in traditional servo designs, resulting in smoother power delivery, faster acceleration and better overall efficiency. This translates directly to improved handling characteristics in your RC car, with steering inputs feeling more natural and responsive, particularly during aggressive cornering or rapid weight transfers. The servo's compact dimensions of just 40.3 x 20 x 37.2mm and featherlight 52.4g mass make it suitable for weight-sensitive applications where every gram of mass reduction translates to better performance. The aluminium middle case actively works as a heat sink, drawing thermal energy away from internal components and maintaining lower operating temperatures even during prolonged use. At full operating load with stalled position, the servo draws 5000mA at 6.0V, which is well within the capability of standard RC car receiver packs and battery systems. The servo operates across a wide temperature range from -10°C to 50°C, making it suitable for year-round RC action across the United Kingdom. With dual ball bearings supporting the output shaft, internal friction is minimised, reducing wear and extending the operational lifespan significantly compared to single-bearing designs. The 333Hz refresh rate ensures smooth servo response without the jerky movements sometimes seen in slower-refresh servo designs, whilst the 100-degree standard operating travel and approximately 130-degree maximum travel capability accommodates most RC vehicle steering geometries without modification.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the SC1256TG+ and standard servo models? — The SC1256TG+ features coreless motor technology instead of the rotating can found in conventional servos, delivering smoother operation, faster response and greater efficiency. The titanium gears are significantly stronger and more durable than alloy alternatives, virtually eliminating the risk of stripped gears. Additionally, the SC1256TG+ Plus model includes Soft Start Mode and Sanwa SSR compatibility, making it more versatile for different RC car setups than older servo versions.
- Is this servo suitable for 1/10 scale RC cars as well as 1/8 scale? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst the SC1256TG+ is particularly popular as a steering servo for 1/8th scale buggies and crawlers, the compact standard size and relatively light weight make it excellent for 1/10th scale off-road RC vehicles as well. The 20kg-cm torque is more than sufficient for most 1/10th scale steering applications, and many 1/10th scale bashers and racers upgrade to this servo for improved control authority.
- What voltage should I run this servo at, 4.8V or 6.0V? — The servo performs adequately at 4.8V, delivering 16kg-cm of torque with 0.18-second response time, which is suitable for casual bashing and lighter applications. However, for maximum performance, speed and holding torque, running at 6.0V is strongly recommended. Most modern RC car receiver packs and battery systems support 6.0V operation without difficulty, and the performance increase is substantial—you get 25% more torque and 20% faster response speed at 6.0V compared to 4.8V.
- How much does this servo weigh and will it make my RC car too heavy? — The SC1256TG+ weighs just 52.4g, making it approximately 20% lighter than comparable high-torque servos. For most RC vehicles, substituting this servo for a factory unit actually reduces overall mass, which improves acceleration, handling and battery runtime. The lightweight construction is one of the SC1256TG+'s key advantages and selling points compared to heavier alternatives.
- Is this servo suitable for beginners or only for experienced RC drivers? — Whilst the SC1256TG+ is certainly capable enough for beginners, it's primarily designed for enthusiasts seeking maximum performance and durability. Beginners might find more affordable servo options, but the SC1256TG+ is an excellent investment if you plan to progress with RC and want a servo that will last years of regular use without problems. The robust titanium gears mean it handles crashes and hard contact better than standard servos, which is actually beneficial for newer RC drivers learning the hobby.
- Can I use this servo as a throttle servo or only for steering? — The SC1256TG+ is specifically designed and marketed as a steering servo. Whilst technically it could be used for throttle control on some vehicles, this isn't its intended application and it delivers far more torque and features than necessary for basic throttle duties. Use it for steering control where its high torque, fast response and precision resolution provide genuine performance benefits.
- What is the wire length and can I extend it? — The servo comes with a 250mm ±5mm servo lead wire, which is shorter than some servos, contributing to the overall weight savings. The wire can be extended using servo extension leads if needed for your RC vehicle's steering geometry, though this isn't usually necessary for standard 1/8th scale buggies.
- What battery voltage does this servo require and what's the current draw? — The servo operates at either 4.8V or 6.0V, with most modern RC cars using standard receiver-pack voltage derived from the main battery. At no load and idle, the servo draws just 5mA at either voltage. Under no-load running conditions, it draws 100mA at 4.8V or 120mA at 6.0V. When stalled (maximum effort against load), it draws 4000mA at 4.8V or 5000mA at 6.0V. These current draws are well within the capability of standard RC car battery systems.
- Does this servo come with a warranty and what does it cover? — Yes, all Savox servos including the SC1256TG+ are backed by a comprehensive 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects. The warranty covers defective internal components, stripped gears and motor failures under normal use conditions. See the Savox warranty page for complete details on coverage terms and any exclusions.
- What spare parts are available if something breaks? — Savox provides genuine spare parts for the SC1256TG+, including the SGSC1256TG servo gear set with bearings and the CSC1256TG top and bottom case assembly with mounting screws. These parts allow you to repair and restore your servo to like-new condition if damage occurs, extending the lifespan of your investment.
