Overview
The MIP Wrench Set Gen 2 is an essential toolkit for anyone serious about RC car maintenance, setup, and trackside tuning. This professionally curated set brings together the most commonly used fastener sizes found across the spectrum of RC applications, from competitive racing to casual weekend bashing. Whether you're a seasoned RC enthusiast running high-performance competition vehicles or a hobbyist discovering the world of RC for the first time, having the right tools at your workbench or in your pit bag makes all the difference to the quality of your builds and the reliability of your models. The MIP brand is recognised throughout the RC community for producing precision tools that deliver durability and accuracy, and this Gen 2 iteration represents an evolved understanding of which tool sizes matter most in modern RC car maintenance.
Supplied as part number MIP9620, this MIP Wrench Set Gen 2 delivers a practical, no-nonsense collection of drivers specifically chosen for the fasteners you'll encounter repeatedly during assembly, adjustment, and service work on RC cars, buggies, trucks, and crawlers. Rather than forcing you to hunt through a drawer full of tools, this bundled set keeps essential drivers together in one convenient package, whether you're working at your bench or making trackside adjustments between heats. The inclusion of 1.5mm and 2.0mm hex drivers alongside a 7.0mm nut driver reflects real-world usage patterns in RC car maintenance, where these sizes appear constantly across suspension tuning, drivetrain assembly, and chassis adjustments. This is the toolkit that serious RC modellers and workshop technicians actually reach for, day after day.
For UK RC hobbyists, having a dedicated, quality tool set eliminates frustration and improves precision. Loose or worn tools lead to stripped fasteners, damaged components, and wasted time. The MIP Wrench Set Gen 2 ensures that every adjustment is made with the correct tool, protecting your investment in your RC models and enabling you to maintain them to the highest standards. This set is equally at home on the workshop bench and in the pit bag at your local track or bash spot.
Key Features
- 1.5mm Hex Driver — This size is fundamental for RC car setup and maintenance, appearing frequently on suspension components, drive shafts, and chassis fasteners across most modern RC vehicles. A dedicated 1.5mm driver ensures you always have the correct fit, eliminating the risk of stripping these small but critical fasteners.
- 2.0mm Hex Driver — Equally essential for RC work, the 2.0mm driver covers another primary fastener size found throughout steering linkages, servo mounting points, and drivetrain components. This size is ubiquitous in RC car design, making it indispensable for any serious modeller.
- 7.0mm Nut Driver — The inclusion of a dedicated nut driver for 7.0mm fasteners adds significant versatility to this set, covering larger fasteners used in suspension pivot points, shock mounts, and other structural connections. A nut driver provides superior grip and control compared to attempting the same task with improvised tools.
- Gen 2 Design — The second-generation specification of this MIP set reflects feedback and real-world usage data, ensuring that these three tool sizes represent the most practical combination for routine RC maintenance. You're getting the distilled wisdom of professional RC technicians and hobbyists.
- Compact Bundle Format — Rather than purchasing individual tools, this set presents a coordinated, space-efficient package that stays organised and is easy to transport. Keep the complete set together for bench work, or take it to the track knowing you have your most-needed tools covered.
- Professional-Grade Quality — MIP tools are manufactured to tight tolerances that protect your RC investment. These drivers provide reliable engagement with fastener heads without slipping or damage, delivering the precision control that RC maintenance demands.
Technical Performance
The MIP Wrench Set Gen 2 represents precision engineering applied to hand tools. Each driver in this collection is manufactured with exacting tolerances to ensure perfect engagement with RC fasteners, preventing the frustration and damage caused by loose or worn tools. The 1.5mm and 2.0mm hex drivers are precisely sized to fit these critical fasteners found throughout RC car assemblies—in modern RC buggy and truck designs, these sizes appear constantly in suspension tuning points, drivetrain assembly, and chassis adjustments. The 7.0mm nut driver extends the capability of this set to larger fasteners, particularly useful for shock mounting, suspension pivot points, and other structural fastener applications where superior grip and control make the job faster and more reliable. This combination of sizes reflects actual usage patterns observed across competitive and recreational RC car platforms, from 1/10-scale buggies and short course trucks to larger off-road crawlers and competition vehicles. The professional build quality ensures that these tools will withstand thousands of adjustments and maintenance cycles, making them reliable companions throughout your RC journey. Whether you're fine-tuning suspension geometry for a race, assembling a newly purchased RC car, or performing routine maintenance between driving sessions, these tools deliver the precision and durability that your models deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What sizes are included in the MIP Wrench Set Gen 2? — This set includes 1.5mm and 2.0mm hex drivers, plus a 7.0mm nut driver. These three sizes represent the most frequently encountered fasteners in RC car maintenance and setup, covering suspension tuning, drivetrain assembly, and chassis work across most modern RC vehicles.
- Why would I need a dedicated tool set rather than individual drivers? — A bundled set keeps your most essential tools organised, prevents loss, and ensures you're not searching through drawers when you need to make a quick adjustment. Having these three sizes grouped together means you're ready for the vast majority of RC maintenance tasks without carrying unnecessary tools.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. If you're new to the RC hobby and have just purchased your first RC car, this set covers the fastener sizes you'll encounter during assembly and early maintenance. As you progress to more complex tuning and building, you may eventually add specialised tools, but these three sizes form the core of most RC work.
- What types of RC vehicles can I use this set with? — These fastener sizes are found across the full spectrum of RC cars, including buggies, short course trucks, monster trucks, truggy platforms, and crawlers. Whether you're working on a brushless competition buggy or a casual basher, you'll find regular use for these drivers.
- How does the Gen 2 specification differ from earlier versions? — The Gen 2 designation indicates that MIP has refined this set based on accumulated user feedback and real-world usage patterns. This current specification represents their refined understanding of which tool sizes deliver the best coverage for typical RC maintenance work.
- Can I use these tools for assembly of new RC models? — Yes. These are precisely the fastener sizes you'll encounter when assembling a new RC car from the box. Having proper tools makes assembly faster, more accurate, and protects components from damage during the build process.
- What's the difference between a hex driver and a nut driver? — A hex driver fits into the socket head of a fastener (the recessed hexagonal indentation), whilst a nut driver grips the external hexagonal nut from above. For 7.0mm fasteners, a nut driver provides superior leverage and control, particularly when working with suspension or chassis fasteners.
