Technical Performance
The FTX Gladius Rear Portal Hub is engineered as part of the Gladius's portal axle drivetrain system, a sophisticated suspension and drive setup that distinguishes modern RC crawlers from conventional off-road vehicles. The portal hub serves as the mounting point and transmission interface within the rear axle assembly, handling the transfer of torque from the drive shaft to the wheels whilst maintaining alignment and stability. Constructed from durable materials selected for strength-to-weight ratio, this component is designed to survive repeated impacts, high-torque loading, and the continuous stress of traversing rocky, uneven terrain that characterises serious RC crawling. The hub's precision manufacturing ensures minimal play within the assembly, which translates to responsive handling, reduced vibration, and improved traction control. When paired with the FTX Gladius's other drivetrain components—including the rear axle, drive shafts, and shock mounts—this hub contributes to a cohesive system capable of delivering impressive ground clearance and obstacle-clearing ability. For UK RC car enthusiasts operating their Gladius in demanding conditions, whether on competition crawling courses or challenging natural terrain, maintaining the integrity of the portal hub assembly is essential for preserving the vehicle's legendary capabilities and ensuring consistent performance across multiple sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the FTX Gladius Rear Portal Hub suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement spare part intended for owners of an existing FTX Gladius crawler or those with mechanical RC knowledge. Installation requires understanding of RC vehicle assembly and basic tools. It is not suitable as a standalone beginner product but is straightforward to fit for experienced RC hobbyists.
- What models is this rear portal hub compatible with? — The FTX10772 is designed specifically for the FTX Gladius rock crawler. Compatibility with other FTX models should be verified before purchase, as portal axle designs vary between different vehicle platforms.
- How long does the rear portal hub typically last? — With proper maintenance and appropriate driving conditions, genuine FTX spare parts like this hub offer excellent durability. However, replacement frequency depends on usage intensity, terrain difficulty, and driving style. Regular inspection of the portal axle assembly is recommended for serious crawlers.
- What is the difference between this rear portal hub and the rear axle hub (FTX10773)? — The rear portal hub (FTX10772) is part of the portal axle system that provides additional ground clearance through an offset gear reduction system. The rear axle hub (FTX10773) serves a different function within the axle assembly. Both may be needed depending on your repair or upgrade requirements.
- Do I need any special tools to install this part? — Installation typically requires basic RC mechanic tools such as hex drivers, screwdrivers, and wrenches. Specific torque specifications should be consulted in the FTX Gladius manual to ensure proper assembly and avoid over-tightening.
- Will this part improve my Gladius's performance? — If you're replacing a damaged or worn portal hub, this genuine FTX part will restore your crawler to original specifications and performance. It is not an upgrade part designed to enhance performance beyond stock capability, but rather a precision replacement that maintains reliability.
