Overview
The ARRMA Machined Shock Piston (FLAT, 8x1.4mm Hole) (2pcs) Z-ARA-3763 is a precision-engineered suspension component designed to enhance the damping performance of your ARRMA RC car. Whether you're a dedicated RC enthusiast in the UK looking to fine-tune your vehicle's handling characteristics or a weekend basher seeking improved suspension response, these machined shock pistons deliver the precision engineering that serious RC drivers demand. Built from high-quality materials and manufactured to exacting tolerances, these components represent a genuine upgrade path for anyone wanting to optimise their RC car's suspension setup.
Shock pistons are critical suspension components that control how quickly damper fluid flows through the shock body, directly affecting how your RC vehicle responds to bumps, landings, and directional changes. A quality shock piston can make the difference between unpredictable handling and confident, planted performance on track or off-road. The flat design of these ARRMA pistons offers matched compression and extension damping characteristics, meaning your vehicle will feel equally responsive whether the suspension is being compressed or extended. This balanced approach makes these pistons suitable for a wide range of driving conditions and styles.
With a customer rating of 3.9 out of 5 stars, these machined shock pistons have proven themselves in the hands of UK RC enthusiasts and competitive drivers alike. If you're upgrading an existing ARRMA RC model or building a custom setup, having quality spare shock components in your workshop ensures you can maintain peak suspension performance or experiment with different damping characteristics to suit your driving preferences.
Key Features
- Precision Machined Construction — Each piston is manufactured to exacting tolerances using precision machining techniques, ensuring an accurate fit in the shock body and eliminating the inconsistencies found in lower-quality alternatives. This precision means your suspension will perform predictably and reliably, delivering the handling consistency that competitive drivers require.
- High-Quality POM Material — These shock pistons are crafted from polyoxymethylene (POM), a premium engineering plastic that offers low friction characteristics, high stiffness, and excellent dimensional stability. The low-friction properties mean damping response remains consistent throughout your driving session, while the high stiffness ensures the piston maintains its shape under the extreme pressures generated during aggressive driving.
- Flat Piston Design — Unlike angled or contoured piston designs, the flat profile offers matched compression and extension damping characteristics, providing a balanced and predictable suspension response in both directions. This design philosophy makes these pistons forgiving and suitable for drivers of varying skill levels whilst still offering the precision needed for competitive racing.
- 8 Holes at 1.4mm Diameter — The piston features eight precisely drilled holes, each measuring 1.4mm in diameter, which control the flow of damper fluid through the shock body. This specific hole configuration balances suspension compliance with control, allowing your RC car to absorb track imperfections whilst maintaining the composure needed for confident cornering and high-speed driving.
- Pack of Two — These pistons come supplied as a pair, providing a matched set for your front and rear shocks or allowing you to maintain spares for continued testing and tuning across multiple sessions without downtime.
Technical Performance
The construction and engineering of these shock pistons demonstrates ARRMA's commitment to suspension performance. The precision machining ensures dimensional accuracy that allows for perfect fitment in shock bodies, eliminating the play or inconsistency that can result from moulded or roughly finished components. The POM material selection is particularly significant—this engineering-grade polymer provides the low-friction properties essential for consistent damping response, which is especially important when you're adjusting and tuning suspension characteristics. POM's high stiffness prevents deflection under the substantial hydraulic pressures generated by impacts and aggressive driving, meaning the piston maintains its intended geometry and the shock delivers the exact damping curve you've selected. The material also exhibits excellent dimensional stability across temperature ranges, ensuring your suspension feels the same whether you're driving in cool UK winter conditions or during warmer summer racing sessions. The flat piston design with eight 1.4mm holes creates a balanced restriction to fluid flow, providing a middle-ground approach that works well across different driving styles and track conditions. Whether you're running these pistons in an on-road racing setup, off-road buggy, or monster truck, the engineering principles remain sound—controlling fluid flow to manage suspension compliance and rebound for predictable, planted handling.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a shock piston and why does it matter in RC suspension? — A shock piston is the component inside a damper (shock absorber) that controls how quickly damping fluid flows through the shock body. This flow restriction determines your vehicle's suspension response—how quickly it rebounds after impacts and how well it absorbs bumps. Quality pistons like these ARRMA units ensure consistent, predictable suspension behaviour, which directly translates to better handling, improved lap times on track, and more confidence when driving off-road.
- Are these shock pistons suitable for beginners? — Whilst these are precision components typically appreciated by experienced builders and competitive drivers, anyone looking to maintain or upgrade their ARRMA RC car's suspension can use them. They're straightforward to install in compatible shock bodies and represent good value for drivers wanting to improve their vehicle's suspension performance without needing specialist knowledge.
- What makes the flat piston design different from other options? — The flat piston design provides matched compression and extension damping, meaning your suspension feels equally responsive when being compressed (landing a jump, hitting a bump) and when extending (springs pushing back). Other piston designs may create an imbalance where one direction feels more or less responsive than the other. This matched approach makes the suspension more forgiving and predictable, which benefits drivers of all abilities.
- What is the 1.4mm hole specification and how does it affect performance? — The eight holes, each 1.4mm in diameter, control how much damper fluid can flow through the piston. Smaller holes restrict flow more, creating a stiffer, less-compliant suspension; larger holes allow more fluid to flow, creating a more compliant, softer suspension. The 1.4mm specification represents a balanced middle ground suitable for diverse driving conditions. If you want to experiment with different damping characteristics, you could combine these pistons with different fluid viscosities or explore alternative piston designs with different hole sizes.
- What ARRMA models are these compatible with? — The source confirms these are genuine ARRMA parts (ARA-3763), but specific model compatibility information isn't detailed. We recommend checking your vehicle's manual or contacting our RC Model Shop team to confirm compatibility with your specific ARRMA model before purchasing.
- How long do shock pistons typically last? — With proper maintenance and regular damper fluid changes, quality machined pistons like these can last many seasons. However, they may eventually show wear from repeated impacts. Keeping spares in your workshop means you can replace worn pistons quickly without waiting for delivery, keeping your RC car in peak condition for racing or bashing.
- Why is the POM material significant? — Polyoxymethylene (POM) is an engineering-grade plastic chosen for its superior properties compared to standard plastics. The low-friction characteristics mean damping response remains consistent, the high stiffness prevents deformation under pressure, and excellent dimensional stability ensures predictable performance across varied temperatures and driving conditions. This is why these machined pistons perform better than budget alternatives.
