Technical Performance
The FlySky FS-CPD02 represents a significant leap forward in RC telemetry capabilities, engineered to meet the demands of serious RC enthusiasts who require accurate, real-time performance monitoring. Built with precision optical sensing technology, this module captures motor speed data with impressive accuracy across an extraordinarily wide 0–60,000 RPM measurement range, sufficient for everything from low-speed rock crawlers operating at minimal throttle to high-performance 4WD buggies and touring cars spinning their brushless motors at maximum RPM. The sensor's robust construction ensures durability through countless bashings and competitive racing sessions, whilst the industrial-grade operating envelope (0–60°C ambient temperature and 20–95% relative humidity) means it functions reliably in the variable British weather conditions that UK RC modellers frequently encounter. The low power consumption profile, operating across just 4.0–8.4 volts, makes this sensor compatible with virtually every battery configuration used in modern RC cars, from modest 1S setups in small vehicles through to powerful 4S LiPo systems in competition-grade buggies. Weighing merely 6.8 grams and occupying just 31 × 15 × 8.5 millimetres of physical space, the FS-CPD02 integrates seamlessly into tight electronics compartments without compromising vehicle balance or handling. The i.bus telemetry protocol used for data transmission is industry-recognised for reliability and minimal latency, ensuring that RPM readings displayed on your i6X transmitter reflect your motor's actual performance with virtually no delay, critical for making split-second driving decisions during competitive events.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the FlySky FS-CPD02 compatible with my RC car setup? — The FS-CPD02 is specifically designed for FlySky i6X transmitters and iA6B receivers connected via the i.bus telemetry interface. If you're using these components, the sensor will integrate seamlessly. Compatibility is limited to FlySky systems with i.bus telemetry support, so verify your receiver model before purchasing if you're uncertain.
- How accurate is the optical speed sensing compared to magnetic sensors? — Optical speed sensing provides excellent accuracy across a wide RPM range without requiring magnets or complex sensor calibration. The light-based technology is reliable and consistent, though proper mounting with the sensor focused on a reflective surface on your motor bell is essential for accurate readings.
- What battery voltage does the FS-CPD02 require? — The sensor operates across a broad 4.0–8.4 volt input range, accommodating 1S, 2S, 3S and 4S LiPo batteries. This flexibility allows you to use the same sensor across multiple RC car builds with different battery configurations, from smaller 1S speed controllers to powerful 4S racing setups.
- Will the FS-CPD02 add significant weight to my RC car? — With a weight of just 6.8 grams, the FS-CPD02 is exceptionally lightweight and will have minimal impact on your vehicle's overall weight distribution, handling and performance. This makes it ideal for weight-conscious racing applications where every gram matters.
- How do I mount the optical sensor on my RC car? — The sensor should be mounted securely where it can detect rotation on your motor bell or other rotating component, typically using a small bracket or the vehicle's existing mounting points. The sensor requires a clear line of sight to a reflective surface for accurate readings, and should be protected from direct water splash and debris impact during bashings.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst the FS-CPD02 is straightforward to install via the i.bus connection, telemetry systems are typically more beneficial for experienced RC enthusiasts and competitive drivers who can interpret and act upon real-time RPM data. Beginners may find simpler systems adequate initially, though adding the FS-CPD02 later is straightforward and highly recommended as skills develop.
- What is the difference between the FS-CPD02 and other FlySky telemetry sensors? — The FS-CPD02 is specifically an optical speed sensor providing RPM data. FlySky manufactures other telemetry modules for different measurements (temperature sensors, altitude sensors, etc.), so the FS-CPD02 is your choice when motor RPM monitoring is your primary objective.
- Can I use the FS-CPD02 on multiple vehicles? — Yes, the FS-CPD02 can be transferred between different RC cars and receivers that feature compatible i.bus telemetry ports. This makes it a cost-effective way to add telemetry capability across your entire RC vehicle collection.
- What temperature range does the FS-CPD02 tolerate? — Operating reliably from 0°C to 60°C ambient temperature, the sensor functions comfortably in UK weather conditions from cold winter days through to warm summer afternoons. However, extreme conditions (below freezing or above 60°C) may affect performance and should be avoided.
- How is the FS-CPD02 powered? — The sensor draws power from your receiver's i.bus port or a dedicated 4.0–8.4V power connection, consuming minimal current. This power integration means no additional battery or power source is required beyond your standard RC car setup.
