Overview
The Fastrax Platinum Glow Plugs No. 6 Cold (FAST760-6) are essential consumable components for nitro-powered RC cars, buggies, trucks and other nitro models. Whether you're running a competitive 1/8th off-road buggy, a high-performance on-road racer, or a casual basher, glow plugs are critical to engine performance and reliability. These platinum-element plugs are engineered to deliver consistent ignition and smooth engine operation across a wide range of nitro fuel blends and driving conditions, making them an indispensable part of your RC nitro engine maintenance routine.
Glow plugs are small but mighty components that ignite the nitro fuel in your engine's combustion chamber. As your engine runs, the intense heat and repeated ignition cycles gradually wear down the glow plug filament, degrading performance until replacement is necessary. The Fastrax Platinum range represents a quality option for RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand reliable, consistent performance from their nitro-powered RC cars. With the Cold rating of No. 6, this plug is specifically calibrated for particular fuel compositions and engine tuning requirements, making proper glow plug selection essential for optimal performance.
If you're serious about maintaining your nitro RC investment and ensuring peak engine performance every time you hit the track or take your RC car out for weekend bashing, stocking spare glow plugs is absolutely essential. Engine wear, fuel type changes, and tuning adjustments all affect glow plug longevity, which is why many experienced RC hobbyists keep multiple spare plugs on hand for racing events, training sessions, or regular recreational use.
Key Features
- Platinum Element Construction — The platinum alloy used in the glow plug filament provides superior heat retention and durability compared to standard nickel-chrome elements, extending the operational life of the plug and delivering more consistent ignition performance throughout longer running sessions.
- Cold Rating (No. 6) — This specific heat rating is designed for cooler-running engines or fuel compositions that require a less aggressive ignition characteristic, ensuring smooth starts and stable idle without fouling or overheating.
- Reliable Ignition Performance — Fastrax glow plugs are engineered to provide dependable, repeatable ignition of nitro fuel, which is critical for consistent lap times, predictable engine behaviour, and reliability during competitive racing or casual RC driving.
- Compatible with Standard Nitro Engines — These plugs fit standard nitro engine designs used across leading RC brands and kits, making them a versatile spare part for any nitro-powered RC model in your collection.
- Essential Maintenance Item — Glow plugs are consumable parts that require regular replacement as part of responsible nitro engine ownership, and keeping quality spares ensures you're never sidelined by a worn-out plug during important driving sessions.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax Platinum Glow Plugs No. 6 Cold are manufactured to exacting standards to ensure reliable performance in nitro engines used across the broad spectrum of RC hobby applications in the UK, from competitive off-road racing and on-road touring cars to casual Sunday afternoon bashing with RC buggies, trucks and specialist models. The platinum element construction represents a step above budget glow plugs, offering improved heat stability and electrical conductivity throughout the plug's operational lifespan. The Cold rating of No. 6 indicates this plug operates at a lower internal temperature range compared to Medium or Hot rated plugs, making it suitable for certain fuel blends, engine tunes, and ambient temperature conditions. The precise engineering ensures that the plug threads are compatible with standard RC nitro engines, and the ceramic insulator body is designed to withstand the extreme thermal cycling that occurs during engine operation. Quality glow plugs like these maintain consistent voltage draw characteristics, which translates to more predictable engine behaviour and easier starting compared to aged or degraded plugs. As your driving season progresses and you accumulate running time on your nitro RC car, glow plug performance naturally degrades, making it essential to recognise signs of wear such as difficult cold starts, erratic idling, or inconsistent throttle response, all of which indicate that a fresh glow plug will restore your engine's vitality.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does the Cold rating mean on glow plugs? — Glow plug ratings (Cold, Medium, Hot) refer to the operating temperature and electrical resistance of the filament inside the plug. A Cold rating (No. 6) means the plug operates at a lower temperature, making it suitable for engines tuned for cooler running or when using fuel blends with higher nitro content, which burns hotter. Choosing the correct heat rating for your specific engine tune and fuel type is crucial for proper performance and reliability.
- How often should I replace my glow plug? — The lifespan of a glow plug varies depending on how much you run your engine, the ambient temperature, your fuel blend, and your engine tuning. Many RC enthusiasts replace their glow plugs after every few tanks of fuel, or certainly whenever they notice signs of wear such as difficult starting or erratic running. Keeping spare plugs on hand means you can swap out worn plugs immediately rather than waiting for a replacement to arrive.
- Are Fastrax glow plugs compatible with my RC engine? — Fastrax Platinum Glow Plugs use standard RC engine glow plug threading, making them compatible with the vast majority of nitro engines used in RC cars, buggies, trucks and other models in the UK hobby. However, always confirm that your specific engine uses standard glow plug fitting before purchasing.
- What is the difference between the Platinum and standard glow plugs? — Platinum element construction offers superior durability, better heat retention, and more consistent ignition performance compared to standard nickel-chrome filaments. This translates to longer plug lifespan, more predictable engine behaviour, and better overall reliability, making platinum plugs a worthwhile investment for serious RC enthusiasts.
- Can I use a different heat rating if this one doesn't match my engine? — No, using an incorrect heat rating can cause serious engine problems. If the No. 6 Cold rating doesn't suit your engine tune or fuel type, you should switch to the appropriate rating (typically Medium or Hot) as specified by your engine manufacturer or tuning notes. Always consult your engine documentation or experienced RC mentors before changing glow plug ratings.
