Overview

The Fastrax 32DP 19T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear is an essential upgrade component for serious RC enthusiasts in the UK looking to fine-tune their vehicle's performance. This precision-engineered pinion gear represents the kind of quality aftermarket parts that separate competitive RC car racers from casual bashers. Whether you're running an off-road buggy, crawler, or competition-spec RC vehicle, upgrading to premium pinion gears can dramatically improve acceleration, top speed and overall drivetrain efficiency. The 32 diametral pitch (DP) specification means this gear works with similarly rated spur gears, making it ideal for those wanting to customise their gear ratio for their specific driving style and terrain.

Constructed from high-grade aluminium 7075 material, this pinion gear delivers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio compared to standard steel alternatives. The 19-tooth configuration provides a carefully balanced middle ground for general performance driving, offering neither excessive low-end acceleration nor extreme top speed, making it versatile across multiple RC platforms and driving conditions. The 3.2mm shaft diameter ensures compatibility with a wide range of modern RC motors and gearboxes commonly used in UK RC shops. For hobbyists looking to upgrade their existing RC car setup without a complete rebuild, the Fastrax 32DP pinion gear offers superb value and measurable performance gains.

Fastrax has earned a solid reputation among the RC community for delivering quality option parts at fair prices, and this pinion gear exemplifies that commitment. Whether you're competing in local RC club races, bashing at the weekend, or optimising your RC collection, having spare pinion gears of different tooth counts is fundamental practice. This 19T version slots perfectly into most enthusiasts' gear ratio libraries, providing the flexibility to adapt quickly to different track conditions or event requirements without needing a complete gearbox replacement.

Key Features

  • High-Grade Aluminium 7075 Construction — Aircraft-grade aluminium 7075 is significantly stronger and lighter than standard steel pinion gears, delivering superior durability without adding unnecessary weight to your RC drivetrain. This material resists warping and maintains precise tolerances even under extreme racing conditions and repeated high-torque impacts.
  • 32 Diametral Pitch (32DP) Specification — The 32DP rating ensures seamless compatibility with standard 32DP spur gears commonly found on modern RC vehicles across the UK market, making this a universal upgrade option for most platforms without requiring gearbox modifications.
  • 19-Tooth Configuration — The 19T tooth count provides an ideal middle-ground gear ratio suitable for diverse driving conditions, delivering balanced acceleration and top-speed characteristics whether you're tackling tight technical courses or open bashing environments.
  • 3.2mm Shaft Diameter — This shaft size is the industry-standard specification for modern RC motors and gearbox systems, guaranteeing trouble-free installation on virtually any contemporary RC car, buggy, or crawler without adapters or modifications.
  • Precision Engineering — Fastrax pinion gears are manufactured to exacting tolerances, ensuring smooth mesh with spur gears, reduced backlash, minimised drivetrain noise, and maximum power transfer efficiency from motor to wheels.
  • Affordable Performance Upgrade — Unlike complete gearbox replacements, upgrading pinion gears is one of the most cost-effective ways to modify your RC vehicle's performance characteristics and adapt to different racing or bashing conditions.
  • Essential Spare Component — Every serious RC enthusiast should keep multiple pinion gears in different tooth counts. The 19T size is invaluable to have on hand for quick ratio adjustments at the track or club meetings without downtime.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax 32DP 19T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear exemplifies precision engineering in drivetrain components. The aluminium 7075 alloy delivers exceptional material properties: tensile strength comparable to steel, yet significantly lighter weight that reduces rotating mass in your RC drivetrain. This lighter construction means quicker acceleration response from your motor without the inertia penalty of heavier steel alternatives. The 32DP pitch specification indicates gear tooth geometry designed to mesh smoothly with standard 32DP spur gears, a specification recognised across the RC industry in the UK and globally. With 19 teeth, this pinion gear creates a balanced middle-range ratio; paired with different spur gear sizes, you can adjust your vehicle's characteristics across a broad performance spectrum. The 3.2mm shaft diameter is the accepted modern standard for RC motors, ensuring universal compatibility without requiring shaft adapters or modifications. Precision manufacturing tolerances mean minimal backlash and gear rattle, translating to smoother power delivery, reduced drivetrain noise, and improved efficiency. The polished finish aids heat dissipation during intensive racing sessions. This is a fundamental upgrade component that delivers measurable improvements in drivetrain response, acceleration smoothness, and overall vehicle performance when paired with quality spur gears and a well-maintained gearbox.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is diametral pitch and why does 32DP matter for my RC car? — Diametral pitch (DP) defines the tooth geometry and spacing of a gear. 32DP is the most common specification in modern RC vehicles, meaning this gear will mesh perfectly with standard spur gears. Using mismatched DP gears causes poor mesh, noise, and rapid wear. The 32DP specification ensures this pinion will work flawlessly with 99% of contemporary RC cars, buggies and crawlers available in UK RC shops.
  • How does a 19-tooth pinion compare to other tooth counts? — Lower tooth count pinions (e.g. 17T or 18T) provide faster top speed but slower acceleration; higher counts (20T, 21T) deliver better low-end acceleration but reduced top speed. The 19T strikes an excellent balance for mixed driving, general bashing, and recreational racing. If you want more speed, try an 18T; for better acceleration, try a 20T. This modularity is why having several pinion gears is standard practice.
  • Why upgrade from steel to aluminium 7075 pinion gears? — Aluminium 7075 is significantly lighter, reducing rotating mass and improving acceleration response time, whilst maintaining exceptional strength. The lighter weight also reduces strain on motor bearings and gearbox components. Steel gears are heavier and less responsive, though marginally more forgiving in extreme bashing. Aluminium 7075 is the choice for performance-focused RC enthusiasts and racers.
  • What shaft diameter does my RC car need? — The 3.2mm shaft specification is the modern standard across nearly all RC brands including Traxxas, Losi, Team Associated, ARRMA and others. If your motor shaft measures 3.2mm, this gear is a direct fit. Some older vehicles may use 2.5mm shafts; if unsure, measure your existing pinion gear or motor shaft before ordering.
  • Will this pinion gear fit my RC vehicle? — This gear fits any RC vehicle with a 32DP gearbox and 3.2mm motor shaft. This covers the vast majority of modern RC cars, buggies, crawlers and trucks. If your vehicle is pre-2015, verify the DP specification and shaft diameter. Consult your vehicle manual or contact us if unsure about compatibility.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gear lifespan depends on usage intensity. Recreational drivers might replace gears annually; competitive racers might change every few months. Replace immediately if you notice noise, vibration, skipped teeth, or a burning smell from the drivetrain. Always inspect gears regularly for wear.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Pinion gears are upgrade components best suited to experienced RC enthusiasts who understand gear ratios and drivetrain maintenance. Beginners should first master basic RC operation and maintenance before experimenting with ratio changes. However, if your existing vehicle uses a damaged pinion gear, this Fastrax piece is an excellent quality replacement.
  • What is the difference between 19T and other pinion tooth counts? — Tooth count directly affects your vehicle's speed versus acceleration balance. A 19T pinion (paired with a given spur size) accelerates reasonably fast whilst maintaining good top speed. A 17T or 18T would be faster but slower to accelerate; a 20T or 21T would accelerate harder but reach lower top speed. Having multiple counts allows you to tune performance for different tracks and conditions without changing the spur gear.
