Technical Performance
The Fastrax 48DP 39T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear represents precision engineering at its finest for the RC car UK market. Manufactured from aerospace-grade 7075 aluminium alloy, this component delivers exceptional strength combined with lightweight performance characteristics that serious RC drivers demand. The 48-pitch specification aligns with industry-standard RC drivetrain systems, whilst the 39-tooth configuration provides an optimised gear ratio suitable for a variety of driving styles and vehicle platforms. Unlike standard steel pinion gears that can suffer from wear, flex and noise under sustained driving loads, the 7075 aluminium construction maintains dimensional stability and delivers smoother power delivery throughout extended driving sessions. The precision-cut teeth ensure perfect meshing with compatible spur gears, eliminating unwanted play and vibration that can compromise acceleration feel and directional control. The lightweight nature of this aluminium gear reduces overall drivetrain inertia, allowing for quicker motor response and more immediate throttle feedback—particularly noticeable during acceleration runs and competitive racing scenarios. Whether you're upgrading a brushless RC car, maintaining an electric-powered vehicle or building a competition-grade setup, this pinion gear provides the reliability and performance consistency that RC enthusiasts throughout the UK have come to expect from the Fastrax brand. The corrosion-resistant properties of 7075 aluminium make this an excellent choice for outdoor driving in varied UK weather conditions, ensuring longevity and consistent performance over extended periods.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need to replace it? — A pinion gear is a small gear mounted on your motor shaft that transfers rotational power to the main spur gear in your RC vehicle's transmission. Over time, through normal use, pinion gears can wear down, develop flat spots or damaged teeth, or become stripped, all of which degrade performance and handling. Upgrading to a quality replacement like this Fastrax 48DP 39T aluminium gear ensures consistent power delivery and smooth acceleration response.
- Will this pinion gear fit my RC car? — The 48-pitch (DP) specification means this gear is compatible with most standard RC drivetrain systems that use 48-pitch gears. However, you should verify that your specific vehicle platform uses 48-pitch gears and that your motor shaft diameter matches the gear's bore size. Consult your vehicle's manual or contact our team at RC Model Shop for compatibility confirmation if you're uncertain.
- Why choose aluminium over steel pinion gears? — Aluminium 7075 offers several advantages: it's significantly lighter than steel, reducing overall drivetrain mass for quicker acceleration; it delivers smoother power transfer with reduced vibration; it provides excellent corrosion resistance for UK outdoor use; and it offers superior strength-to-weight ratio. The only trade-off is that aluminium is slightly softer than hardened steel, meaning it may require more frequent replacement in extremely high-intensity competitive environments, but for most RC drivers, the performance benefits outweigh this consideration.
- Is this gear suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. This pinion gear is an ideal upgrade component for any RC enthusiast, from complete beginners assembling their first RC car to experienced racers maintaining competition vehicles. It's a straightforward replacement part that requires only basic tools and mechanical knowledge to install, making it perfect for those learning about RC car maintenance and upgrade procedures.
- What's the difference between 48DP and other pitch specifications? — The DP (diametral pitch) number indicates the tooth size and spacing on the gear. A 48DP gear has 48 teeth per inch of gear diameter, which is an industry standard for most mid-sized RC cars. Other common specifications include 64DP (smaller teeth, typically for smaller vehicles) and 32DP (larger teeth for bigger trucks). Using the correct pitch specification for your vehicle is essential for proper meshing and performance.
- How long does an aluminium pinion gear typically last? — Under normal recreational driving conditions, a quality aluminium pinion gear like this Fastrax component should provide thousands of running hours of reliable service. Actual lifespan depends on driving intensity, vehicle setup, motor power and maintenance practices. Regular inspection during routine maintenance will alert you to wear patterns before they impact performance.
