Key Features
- 4-Channel FHSS Digital System — The Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum technology automatically avoids radio interference by rapidly switching frequencies across a wide spectrum, ensuring stable, reliable signal performance even when multiple RC operators are running simultaneously at the same venue. This is far superior to older fixed-frequency systems and is essential for modern RC driving.
- High Precision Proportional Control — Both steering and throttle channels offer fully proportional response, meaning servo movement is directly proportional to stick input. This delivers intuitive, natural driving feel and is far superior to non-proportional bang-bang systems.
- Comprehensive Programmable Menu System — Access to EPA (End Point Adjustment), Dual Rate steering control, channel reverse, mixing functions and more means you can precisely tailor the radio to your exact requirements without needing external programming devices.
- Model Memory for Up to 6 Profiles — Store unique binding information and custom settings for up to 6 different models, allowing instant switching between your RC cars, boats or other vehicles without reprogramming. Each profile retains all personalised tuning parameters.
- Failsafe Protection with Programmable Throttle Position — In the event of signal loss, the receiver automatically applies a pre-programmed throttle setting (typically idle or reverse) to prevent your model running away uncontrolled. This critical safety feature protects both your vehicle and surroundings.
- Telemetry Monitoring Ready — View transmitter and receiver voltage in real time directly on the LCD screen, with programmable low-voltage warnings that activate when battery voltage drops below 4.6V for more than 3 seconds. This keeps you informed of battery health during use.
- Digital Trim Adjustments — Fine-tune steering and throttle neutral positions with precise digital trim controls that offer adjustment ranges from -60 to +60 with audible beep confirmation at neutral and endpoints, ensuring perfectly straight tracking and consistent throttle control.
- ABS Braking System — Sophisticated pulse braking functionality smooths deceleration and improves straight-line tracking under braking. Customise activation point (PT), brake pulse distance (WD), pulse speed (CY) and release delay (DT) for different track conditions and driving styles.
- Adjustable Steering and Throttle Curves — Configure positive curves for sharper initial response or negative curves for smoother, more progressive feel. This is essential for matching the radio response to your vehicle's suspension characteristics and your personal driving preferences.
- Channel Mixing — Supports advanced mixing combinations between channels (2CH/3CH, 2CH/4CH, 3CH/4CH) for specialised setups and creative control configurations that unlock additional vehicle behaviours.
- Built-in Timer Function — Count up or countdown modes with audible alarm, perfect for timing practice runs, race sessions or managing battery runtime on the track. Set duration and be alerted when time expires.
- Backlit LCD Display — Clear, bright screen with backlighting ensures visibility in various lighting conditions and makes menu navigation quick and straightforward. The display shows all critical information at a glance.
- Throttle Hold (Idle-Up) Feature — Apply preset throttle at neutral position for engine warm-up purposes, with adjustment range from 0–100% to suit different engine types and warm-up requirements.
- Sound Control — Toggle audible tones, alarms and timer sounds on or off according to your preference, reducing distraction or maintaining ambient awareness as needed.
- Real-time Channel Monitor — Display actual servo pulse values (approximately 1000–2000µs) for diagnostic purposes and detailed setup verification during programming sessions.
- Optional Digital 4th Channel — The 4th channel can be deployed in mixed or proportional mode, usable in combination with 2CH or 3CH setups for advanced mixed control scenarios.
Technical Performance
The Etronix EX4GPro represents a genuine step forward in entry-to-mid-level surface radio systems. Operating on the 2.4GHz band with FHSS technology, this system delivers exceptional range performance extending to 250 metres under ideal terrain conditions, though practical operating distance typically ranges from 100-150 metres depending on local RF environment and physical obstacles. The transmitter is powered by four standard AA batteries, delivering operating voltage between 4.8–6.0V, making it compatible with either NiMH or alkaline batteries — a practical consideration for field operation where spare batteries are readily available. The robust receiver input voltage range of 4.8–6.0V ensures compatibility with standard 5-cell NiMH receiver battery packs commonly used throughout the RC hobby. Build quality is solid throughout, with the backlit LCD display providing clear menu visibility in bright sunlight or shaded pit areas. The ergonomic wheel-format transmitter layout places all controls intuitively beneath your hands, enabling smooth, natural stick movements during extended driving sessions. The 26mm antenna on the receiver provides excellent RF coupling whilst remaining compact enough for installation in tight vehicle chassis. The failsafe system architecture is genuinely protective rather than merely preventing worst-case scenarios — you define exactly what the receiver does on signal loss, whether that's cutting throttle to neutral, applying gentle reverse to slow the model, or maintaining current throttle position. The telemetry system continuously monitors both transmitter and receiver voltages, providing early warning of battery depletion before complete power loss occurs, allowing you to bring your model back safely before voltage drops to critical levels.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Etronix EX4GPro suitable for RC beginners? — Yes, this radio system is genuinely beginner-friendly despite its advanced capabilities. The default settings work well straight from the box without any programming needed. The intuitive menu system and backlit LCD display make navigation straightforward, and the user manual guides you through basic setup. The comprehensive tuning options won't overwhelm beginners because they're optional — you only dive into EPA, dual rate and curve adjustment when you're ready to explore advanced features. This makes it an excellent radio system that will grow with your skills.
- What batteries does the EX4GPro transmitter need? — The transmitter requires four standard AA batteries, operating at 4.8–6.0V. You can use either rechargeable NiMH AA batteries or disposable alkaline batteries. Rechargeable NiMH is more economical for frequent use, whilst alkaline batteries offer the convenience of not requiring a charger. The wide voltage tolerance means performance remains consistent throughout the battery discharge cycle.
- What is the operating range of this radio system? — The EX4GPro delivers operating range up to 250 metres, though practical range depends heavily on terrain, obstacles and RF interference. In open-field conditions you'll easily achieve 150+ metres of reliable control. Built-up areas, metal structures and multiple other radio systems operating simultaneously may reduce effective range, though the FHSS technology is specifically designed to minimise interference issues.
- How does the failsafe protection work? — The failsafe system continuously monitors the radio link. If the receiver loses signal for more than a specified period, it automatically applies your pre-programmed throttle position — you define this during setup. Most users set it to neutral to stop the model, whilst others prefer gentle reverse to bring the vehicle back. The failsafe protects your model if you lose transmitter signal, move out of range, or if batteries die unexpectedly.
- Can I use this radio on multiple different RC models? — Absolutely. The model memory system stores up to 6 complete profiles, each with unique receiver binding and all your custom settings. Switch between profiles instantly without reprogramming, making it ideal if you own several RC cars, boats or other surface models. Each profile is independently stored and accessed from the main menu.
- What is FHSS and why does it matter? — FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) is a technology that continuously switches the radio signal between different frequencies within the 2.4GHz band, thousands of times per second. This makes it extremely resistant to interference from other radio systems, WiFi networks and electromagnetic interference. FHSS is the professional standard in modern RC racing and competitive driving, ensuring reliable signal even in crowded environments.
- How do I programme the ABS braking system? — ABS braking is configured through the transmitter menu with four adjustable parameters: PT (activation point) controls when braking engages, WD (brake pulse distance) adjusts the strength of each brake pulse, CY (pulse speed) controls how rapidly pulses are applied, and DT (release delay) determines how long braking continues after you release the throttle. Start with factory defaults and adjust parameters based on your driving feel and track conditions.
- What receiver models are compatible with this transmitter? — The Etronix ET1163 4-channel 2.4GHz FHSS receiver is the manufacturer's recommended match, and one is included in the box. Other compatible receivers must be 2.4GHz FHSS format from Etronix or similarly specified manufacturers, though we always recommend using the specified receiver for guaranteed compatibility and best performance.
- Can I adjust steering sensitivity without opening the transmitter? — Yes, the Dual Rate (D/R) feature lets you adjust steering sensitivity from 0–120% directly through the menu system. At 100% (default) you get full servo travel. Reduce to 50% for slower, more controllable steering response, or increase above 100% for more aggressive steering lock. You can also use EPA (End Point Adjustment) to limit maximum servo travel per channel independently.
- Does the telemetry system work with any receiver? — Telemetry monitoring requires a compatible receiver that supports voltage reporting. The included ET1163 receiver fully supports telemetry and reports both transmitter and receiver voltage. The low-voltage warning function activates automatically when voltage drops below 4.6V for more than 3 seconds, giving you clear advance warning before battery depletion.
