Overview
The Team Associated Silicone Shock Oil 47.5Wt (613cSt) AS5438 is a premium half-weight suspension fluid designed for serious RC enthusiasts and competitive racers across the UK. Made exclusively in the USA by Lucas Oil Products for Team Associated, this specialist shock oil represents a significant advancement in suspension tuning for RC cars. Whether you're campaigning a 1/10 scale buggy, touring car, or monster truck, having the right shock fluid viscosity is absolutely critical to achieving optimal handling, grip and consistency on the track or trail. This 47.5 weight formulation eliminates the frustration and imprecision of mixing different viscosity grades, giving you a direct path to perfectly dialled suspension setup.
The half-weight series concept is revolutionary for RC racers. Instead of being forced to mix standard weights together to hit your ideal viscosity, Team Associated's progressive weight range lets you step up or down in precise increments. This means you can fine-tune your shock absorber performance with absolute certainty, making repeatable changes to front-end feel, rear-end stability, and overall platform balance. For competitive racers running multiple Team Associated vehicles—whether that's RC10 buggies, touring cars, stadium trucks, or short-course vehicles—this approach delivers consistency and control that simply isn't possible with fluid mixing.
Supplied in a convenient 2 fl. oz. bottle with a spill-proof seal insert, this shock oil is designed for safe travel and reliable storage. If you need additional volume, a 4oz. version is also available. The formulation is specifically engineered to deliver consistent damping characteristics lap after lap, providing the repeatable performance that separates winners from the rest of the field in UK RC competitions.
Key Features
- 47.5Wt Half-Weight Viscosity Grade — This precise viscosity rating (613cSt) sits perfectly between standard weights, allowing racers to achieve finer tuning increments without the uncertainty of mixing fluids together, which can compromise consistency and reliability.
- No More Fluid Mixing Required — The entire purpose of the half-weight series is to eliminate the need for mixing different grades. This saves time in the pit lane, reduces the risk of incorrect ratios, and ensures repeatable results every single time you fill your shocks.
- Made in the USA by Lucas Oil Products — Manufactured exclusively for Team Associated by a world-renowned lubricant specialist, this oil meets the highest standards of quality, purity and performance consistency that competitive racing demands.
- Spill-Proof Seal Insert — The included seal insert means you can safely transport and store the bottle without worrying about leaks or spills contaminating your pit box or car bag during travel to the track.
- 2 fl. oz. Convenient Bottle Size — Perfect for regular shock servicing and tuning adjustments, with enough volume to refill your shocks multiple times or share with fellow Team Associated racers at your local RC club.
- Designed for Finer Tuning Control — The half-weight approach gives you expanded tuning resolution, meaning you can make smaller, more meaningful adjustments to suspension character without having to jump between dramatically different viscosity grades.
- Compatible with Extensive Team Associated Range — This shock oil is tested and validated for use across Team Associated's entire lineup, from the iconic RC10 classics through to the latest Apex and Reflex models, covering buggies, touring cars, short-course trucks, rock crawlers, and speciality vehicles.
Technical Performance
The 47.5Wt formulation delivers a viscosity rating of 613 centistokes (cSt), positioning it precisely in the middle of Team Associated's shock fluid spectrum. This half-weight approach is fundamental to modern RC racing strategy. By removing the need to mix fluids—a process that can introduce inconsistency, air bubbles, and unpredictable viscosity variations—this oil ensures that every shock absorber in your car performs identically, delivering predictable damping force throughout the compression and rebound phases. The silicone-based formulation resists temperature variations far better than mineral oils, maintaining consistent performance whether you're running early morning practice sessions or battling summer heat at a championship event. For UK racers competing in the diverse conditions found across British racing venues—from indoor carpet tracks to outdoor clay courses—the thermal stability of quality silicone fluid is essential. The Lucas Oil manufacturing process ensures exceptional purity and viscosity consistency, meaning the shock oil you use in round one will deliver identical performance in round ten, critical for data acquisition and fine-tuning during a season of racing. When used across Team Associated vehicles ranging from the precision-engineered RC10 touring cars and RC10B buggies through to the rugged Enduro trail trucks and Reflex off-road platforms, this fluid works in concert with precision-engineered shock absorbers to control suspension movement with accuracy. The half-weight concept reflects modern RC racing's emphasis on resolution and control—racers no longer accept binary tuning choices, instead demanding granular adjustment capabilities that allow them to dial in exactly the right feel for their driving style, chassis setup, and track conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between 47.5Wt and other shock oil weights from Team Associated? — The 47.5Wt represents a half-weight grade, sitting exactly between standard weights in Team Associated's fluid range. This allows you to make smaller, more precise tuning adjustments to your suspension setup without jumping between dramatically different viscosity grades. Instead of mixing fluids or being forced to choose between two weights that don't quite fit your chassis, you get exactly the weight you need.
- Do I need to mix this shock oil with anything else? — No, absolutely not. This is the entire purpose of the half-weight series. Simply use the 47.5Wt oil directly from the bottle. You won't achieve the same consistency and reliability through mixing, which can introduce air bubbles, incorrect ratios, and performance variability. The convenience and precision of a ready-to-use weight is one of the key advantages over traditional shock fluid approaches.
- Is this suitable for beginners and casual RC enthusiasts? — While this product is certainly used by competitive racers, it's equally valuable for any RC enthusiast who wants to dial in their suspension properly. Whether you're building your first Team Associated RC10 or campaigning a full race programme, having access to precise shock oil weights makes tuning faster, easier, and more predictable than mixing fluids. Beginners benefit because they don't need to figure out mixing ratios or worry about getting it wrong.
- Which Team Associated vehicles is this compatible with? — This shock oil is validated for an extensive range of Team Associated models, including the RC10T, RC10B, RC8B, RC8T touring car and buggy families, the TC7 touring car series, the SC10 short-course truck line, the Reflex platform vehicles, the Apex racing models, the RB10, the Enduro trail trucks, the Rival monster trucks, the Pro2 and Pro4 vehicles, and many classic Team Associated models. Essentially, any Team Associated vehicle with damper-based shock absorbers can use this fluid.
- Is this oil made in the UK? — No, the 47.5Wt silicone shock oil is manufactured in the USA by Lucas Oil Products exclusively for Team Associated. However, it's widely available throughout the UK through authorised retailers like RC Model Shop, so sourcing it is straightforward whether you're in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
- How much shock oil will this bottle fill? — The 2 fl. oz. bottle provides enough volume for multiple shock refills depending on your shock absorber design and capacity. Most RC car shocks hold between 0.5 and 1 ml of fluid per shock, so this bottle will service several complete suspension rebuilds. If you maintain multiple Team Associated vehicles or run a high racing schedule, you may want to consider purchasing multiple bottles or opting for the larger 4oz. version.
- What temperature range does this shock oil perform best in? — The silicone-based formulation is specifically designed to resist temperature changes that would affect mineral-based shock fluids. This makes it ideal for UK racing conditions where temperatures can vary significantly between indoor and outdoor venues, and across different seasons. The viscosity remains stable whether you're racing in winter or summer.
- Can I use this in shock absorbers from other manufacturers? — While this oil is optimised for Team Associated vehicles, standard silicone shock fluid of the same viscosity can technically be used in other brands. However, we recommend always following the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. If you run non-Team Associated vehicles, check the documentation or contact the manufacturer to confirm compatibility before using this fluid.
