Overview
The Team Associated Silicone Shock Oil 15Wt (150cSt) AS5427 is an essential maintenance product for serious RC enthusiasts and competitive racers across the UK. Whether you're running an RC buggy, RC truck, or any Team Associated model from their extensive range, this premium silicone shock fluid takes the guesswork out of suspension tuning. Rather than spending hours mixing different viscosity grades to achieve your target weight, this half-weight 15Wt formulation gives you the exact specification you need straight from the bottle, eliminating inconsistencies and ensuring repeatable, reliable suspension performance every single time.
Manufactured in the USA exclusively for Team Associated by Lucas Oil Products Inc., this shock oil represents the gold standard in suspension fluid for RC car UK enthusiasts. The fluid is engineered to provide consistent damping characteristics across a wide range of ambient temperatures and driving conditions, making it ideal for both indoor carpet racing and outdoor off-road RC driving. From seasoned competitors fine-tuning their RC car setups to weekend bashers wanting to optimise their shock performance, this product delivers the professional-grade quality that Team Associated racers have trusted for decades.
The 2 fl. oz. bottle features a practical twist-to-open cap and includes a seal insert that makes it completely spill-proof during travel and storage. This thoughtful design means you can safely transport your shock oil to the track, the skate park, or anywhere else your RC adventures take you without worrying about messy spills inside your kit bag or vehicle.
Key Features
- Half-weight 15Wt viscosity grade (150cSt) — This is a dedicated half-weight formulation that eliminates the need to mix fluids of different densities to achieve your target viscosity, saving time during suspension setup and ensuring absolute consistency between your front and rear shocks.
- Made exclusively by Lucas Oil Products Inc. — Lucas Oil is a renowned American manufacturer with decades of experience in fluid engineering, and this shock oil is produced under strict quality control exclusively for Team Associated, guaranteeing authenticity and reliability.
- USA manufactured quality — Every bottle is produced in the United States to rigorous standards, ensuring you receive a premium product with the consistency and performance characteristics that professional racers depend on.
- Spill-proof seal insert design — The innovative seal insert integrated into the bottle neck prevents accidental spills during transport and storage, protecting your kit bag, workshop floor, and vehicle interior from damaging oil residue.
- Twist-to-open cap — The user-friendly twist cap provides secure closure when stored and allows quick, easy access when you need to refill your shocks at the track without fumbling or struggling.
- Compatible with extensive Team Associated vehicle range — This shock oil works with virtually every Team Associated model in their range, from classic RC10 buggies through to modern Reflex and Enduro platforms, plus their APEX touring cars, TC and SR series.
- 2 fl. oz. (59 ml) bottle size — The generous 2 fluid ounce capacity is sufficient for multiple shock service intervals, giving you excellent value and reducing the frequency of reordering this essential consumable.
Technical Performance
The Team Associated Silicone Shock Oil 15Wt delivers exceptional damping consistency across the broad operational envelope of modern RC racing. At 150cSt kinematic viscosity, this fluid sits in the mid-range sweet spot for shock oil, providing adequate dampening resistance to prevent excessive shock extension and compression whilst maintaining responsive suspension articulation that translates driver inputs directly to the chassis. Silicone-based formulations like this one offer inherent advantages over mineral oils: they exhibit superior thermal stability across temperature variations, maintain consistent viscosity whether you're racing indoors in a heated warehouse or outdoors during UK winter months, and provide reliable performance regardless of ambient conditions. The fluid's molecular structure resists breakdown under the constant shearing forces and pressures within RC shock absorbers, meaning it maintains its damping characteristics throughout an entire season of competitive use. The decision to manufacture this as a dedicated half-weight grade rather than requiring mixing demonstrates Team Associated's commitment to convenience and precision — professional racers know that homogeneous, unmixed shock fluid delivers more predictable handling characteristics than blended solutions. The 150cSt specification represents the culmination of factory engineering data from countless hours on track with Team Associated's competition vehicles, making this the optimal choice for suspension setups on RC buggies, trucks, and specialist platforms designed by the factory engineers.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Why should I use half-weight shock oil instead of mixing full-weight grades? — Half-weight shock oils eliminate the variables introduced by manual mixing, which can result in inconsistent viscosity if not measured precisely. By using dedicated half-weight formulations like this 15Wt, you receive perfectly homogeneous fluid that delivers predictable, repeatable suspension performance. This is particularly important in competitive racing where even minor inconsistencies in damping can affect lap times and handling characteristics.
- Is this silicone shock oil suitable for all Team Associated RC models? — Yes, this shock oil is compatible with an extensive range of Team Associated vehicles including the SC10, RC8, RC10, RC12R series, TC series, Reflex platform, Enduro range, APEX touring cars, Rival monster trucks, and virtually every other Team Associated model from vintage classics through to current releases. Consult the comprehensive compatibility list provided by the manufacturer if you need to verify your specific model.
- What is the difference between 15Wt and other weight grades? — Weight ratings indicate viscosity: higher numbers mean thicker, more resistant fluid that provides greater damping force. 15Wt is a mid-range formulation; lighter weights (like 10Wt or 12Wt) are used for faster suspension response and looser, more responsive handling, while heavier weights (like 25Wt or higher) provide stiffer damping for more stable, controlled suspension. Your choice of weight depends on track conditions, driving style, and your suspension geometry setup.
- Can I mix different weights of this oil to fine-tune my shocks? — Yes, the half-weight design of this product specifically enables mixing if you need a weight between standard grades. However, if you require a different weight entirely, Team Associated produces the full weight grades separately. Many racers prefer to keep a selection of pre-mixed weights available to avoid the potential for inconsistency introduced by manual mixing during pre-race setup.
- Why is the seal insert important for spill-proof travel? — The integrated seal insert prevents pressurised air from forcing oil out when the bottle is transported in a kit bag or vehicle where temperature and pressure changes can occur. This design keeps your workspace clean and protects your RC equipment and clothing from accidental oil stains.
- Is this shock oil suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. While professional competitors rely on this fluid for consistent performance, beginners and casual RC enthusiasts benefit equally from the ease of use — no mixing required, just open and fill your shocks. The improved consistency actually makes it easier for newer racers to understand how their suspension setup affects handling.
- How often should I replace shock oil in my RC car? — Shock oil should be replaced when it becomes discoloured, contaminated with dirt or debris, or after extensive use (typically 1-2 seasons of regular racing). Inspect your shock oil regularly; if it appears cloudy or darkened, it's time for a refresh. This 2 fl. oz. bottle typically provides enough fluid for several complete shock changes depending on your shock capacity.
