Key Features
- 16-tooth pinion configuration — The 16T tooth count is specifically engineered to work as an intermediate gearing option within the Reflex 14-series platform, allowing you to fine-tune your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics by adjusting the ratio between pinion and spur gears.
- 0.5 Mod tooth profile — This tooth profile is the standard specification for compact RC vehicles and ensures smooth, efficient power delivery with minimal backlash when properly meshed with a matching 0.5 Mod spur gear, resulting in reliable operation and extended drivetrain component lifespan.
- 2.3mm shaft fitment — The gear is precision-manufactured with a 2.3mm bore to directly fit motors specified for the Reflex 14B, 14T, 14R, 14R Hoonitruck, 14MT Monster Truck, and 14B variants, ensuring a secure, wobble-free connection that prevents power loss and drivetrain damage.
- Genuine Team Associated part — As an official AS21532 component, this pinion gear is manufactured to the exact specifications and quality standards demanded by Team Associated, providing confidence that your replacement part will perform identically to the original component it's replacing.
- Includes M3x2.5 set screw — Each purchase includes the necessary M3x2.5 set screw required to secure the pinion gear to your motor shaft, eliminating the need to source fasteners separately and ensuring you have everything needed for immediate installation.
- Comprehensive vehicle compatibility — This single part is compatible with multiple variants within the Reflex 14-series platform, including the 14B, 14T, 14R, 14R Hoonitruck, 14MT Monster Truck, 14B Ongaro, and 14B Buggy, making it a versatile upgrade option for users with multiple vehicles.
Technical Performance
The Associated AS21532 pinion gear represents precision engineering at its finest, manufactured from high-quality materials engineered to withstand the demanding forces present in modern electric RC vehicles. The 0.5 Mod tooth profile is the industry standard for compact 1/14-scale RC vehicles, ensuring compatibility with existing spur gears and drivetrain components. The 16-tooth configuration works in conjunction with your choice of spur gear to establish your vehicle's final drive ratio—a critical parameter that directly influences acceleration, top speed, and overall performance characteristics. When paired with a matching 0.5 Mod spur gear and installed with proper mesh clearance, this pinion delivers smooth, efficient power transfer from your motor to the drivetrain with minimal friction and energy loss. The precision manufacturing tolerances ensure that backlash is kept to an absolute minimum, which is essential for responsive handling and consistent performance lap after lap. The 2.3mm shaft bore has been engineered to provide a secure fit on motors specified for the Reflex 14-series vehicles, preventing slippage during high-acceleration runs whilst remaining straightforward to install and remove when maintenance or upgrades are required. For best results, pair this 16T pinion with an appropriate 0.5 Mod spur gear (spur tooth count will vary depending on your target performance characteristics), set mesh carefully to maintain smooth operation with no audible grinding or excessive play, and consider the overall gear ratio implications before installation to ensure the combination aligns with your driving style and track conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need it for my RC car? — A pinion gear is a small toothed wheel that meshes with a larger spur gear to transfer power from your motor to the drivetrain. The tooth count you choose directly affects your vehicle's gearing ratio, which determines acceleration and top speed. By changing your pinion gear, you can customise performance without upgrading your motor or ESC, making it one of the most cost-effective ways to tune your RC car's performance.
- Is the AS21532 suitable for beginners? — Yes, this is an excellent part for beginners who are learning about RC car maintenance and tuning. Pinion gears are simple components that are straightforward to install and remove, making them perfect for learning how to adjust your vehicle's performance through gearing changes. However, you should have a basic understanding of how gear ratios work and how to properly mesh gears to avoid damaging your drivetrain.
- Will this pinion gear work with my Reflex 14B? — Absolutely. The AS21532 is officially listed as compatible with the Team Associated Reflex 14B and is manufactured to exact OEM specifications, ensuring a perfect fit and reliable operation. It is also compatible with the Reflex 14T, 14R, 14R Hoonitruck, 14MT Monster Truck, 14B Ongaro, and 14B Buggy variants.
- What does 0.5 Mod mean and why does it matter? — Mod is short for modulus, which is a standardised measurement that defines the tooth size and spacing on a gear. 0.5 Mod is the standard specification for compact 1/14-scale RC vehicles, and you must use matching modulus gears (both pinion and spur) to ensure proper meshing, smooth operation, and longevity of your drivetrain components. Using incompatible modulus gears will result in poor performance and rapid component wear.
- How do I know which pinion gear tooth count to use? — The tooth count determines your vehicle's final drive ratio. Smaller tooth counts (lower numbers like 14T or 15T) provide more aggressive acceleration but lower top speed, whilst larger tooth counts (higher numbers like 17T or 18T) provide more top speed but require harder acceleration. The 16T option provides a balanced middle ground. You should experiment to find what works best for your driving style, track layout, and motor specifications.
- Do I need to replace my spur gear as well? — Not necessarily. This 16T pinion can be used with various spur gear sizes to achieve different final drive ratios. However, both gears must have the same modulus (0.5 Mod in this case) to mesh properly. If your existing spur gear is damaged or worn, replacement is recommended to ensure optimal performance.
- What's included with this pinion gear and what do I still need? — The AS21532 comes complete with the pinion gear itself and the M3x2.5 set screw needed to secure it to your motor shaft. You will need a matching 0.5 Mod spur gear (if you don't already have one) and basic tools to install the gear on your motor. A gear mesh gauge or feeler gauge is helpful to set proper clearance between pinion and spur.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and correct mesh settings, a quality pinion gear like the AS21532 should last through many hours of use. However, if you notice unusual noise, grinding sounds, or a loss of acceleration, your pinion may be worn and should be inspected or replaced. Regular cleaning and occasional inspection will help maximise component lifespan.
