Overview
The SPM Firma 2848-3000Kv Brushless Motor M-SPMXSM4900 is a premium brushless motor solution designed for RC enthusiasts looking to upgrade or build high-performance RC vehicles. This motor represents the pinnacle of Spektrum's engineering expertise, offering consistent power delivery and reliability that serious RC car UK hobbyists demand. Whether you're building a competitive racing setup or upgrading an existing RC model, this brushless motor provides the performance foundation needed for responsive acceleration and smooth power curves that make the difference between a good RC experience and an exceptional one.
Manufactured by Spektrum, a recognised leader in RC technology and radio control systems, the Firma 2848-3000Kv brushless motor is engineered to deliver exceptional performance in demanding applications. The 3000Kv rating means this motor spins at 3000 revolutions per minute per volt applied, making it suitable for a wide range of RC configurations. This brushless design eliminates the maintenance headaches associated with brushed motors, meaning you spend more time driving and less time servicing your equipment. For UK RC enthusiasts seeking a dependable motor that balances speed, torque and longevity, the Firma 2848-3000Kv is an investment in your hobby's performance and reliability.
The motor's 2848 size designation refers to its physical dimensions, which are optimised for efficient power transfer and heat dissipation during extended run sessions. Brushless RC motors like this one offer significant advantages over traditional brushed alternatives: they run cooler, require virtually no maintenance beyond basic cleaning, provide more consistent power delivery throughout the battery discharge cycle, and offer greater efficiency that translates directly to longer runtime from the same battery capacity. Whether you're competing in local RC racing events or simply enjoying weekend bashing with friends, this motor delivers the performance and reliability you need.
Key Features
- 3000Kv Rating — The 3000 kilovolt rating determines how fast the motor spins at a given voltage, making this motor ideal for applications requiring a balance between speed and torque rather than extreme top-end performance alone.
- Brushless Design — Brushless motors eliminate the carbon brushes found in older motor designs, dramatically reducing maintenance requirements while increasing reliability, efficiency and lifespan compared to brushed alternatives.
- 2848 Size Specification — This motor size is engineered to provide optimal performance in mid-range RC vehicles, offering a proven balance between power output, weight and physical dimensions that work well in many popular RC car platforms.
- Spektrum Engineering — As a Spektrum Firma motor, this unit benefits from decades of radio control expertise and manufacturing precision that ensures consistent performance and build quality you can rely on.
- Efficient Power Delivery — The motor's design optimises electrical-to-mechanical power conversion, meaning more of your battery's energy translates directly to motion rather than being wasted as heat.
- Wide Compatibility — This motor size and specification works with a range of electronic speed controllers and battery configurations, giving you flexibility when building or upgrading your RC setup.
Technical Performance
The SPM Firma 2848-3000Kv brushless motor represents a significant engineering achievement in compact motor design. At 2848 size, this motor balances physical dimensions with power output, making it suitable for a broad spectrum of RC vehicles from competitive racing machines to recreational basher platforms. The 3000Kv rating positions this motor in the mid-range performance category, meaning it will produce strong acceleration and responsive handling without pushing the extreme speed envelope that can make vehicles difficult to control. Brushless motor technology offers measurable advantages over brushed designs: brushless motors run significantly cooler because there's no friction from mechanical brushes, they maintain consistent power output throughout a battery discharge cycle rather than degrading as brushes wear, and they're more efficient at converting electrical power to mechanical motion. The motor's construction incorporates quality materials and precision tolerancing to ensure reliable operation across varied environmental conditions. When paired with an appropriate electronic speed controller and compatible battery system, this motor will deliver the performance characteristics that have made Spektrum a trusted name among serious RC car UK hobbyists and professional competitors alike. The brushless design means you won't need to replace brushes, clean commutators, or perform the regular maintenance that brushed motors require, allowing you to focus your time on actual driving rather than workshop time.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does the 3000Kv rating mean and how does it affect performance? — The Kv rating indicates how many revolutions per minute the motor will spin for each volt of applied power. A 3000Kv motor spins at 3000 RPM per volt, so on a 2S LiPo battery (7.4V) it would theoretically spin at approximately 22,200 RPM under no load. Higher Kv ratings produce faster speeds but lower torque, whilst lower Kv ratings produce more torque but lower speeds. The 3000Kv rating of this Spektrum motor makes it a versatile choice that balances speed and torque for many RC applications.
- Is a brushless motor better than a brushed motor? — Yes, brushless motors offer several advantages that make them superior for most modern RC applications. They run cooler because there's no friction from mechanical brushes, they require virtually no maintenance compared to brushed designs that need regular brush and commutator care, they deliver more consistent power throughout a battery's discharge cycle, and they're more efficient at converting electrical power to motion. These advantages mean longer runtimes, less maintenance, and more reliable performance, which is why brushless RC motors have largely replaced brushed designs in quality RC vehicles.
- What battery voltage and capacity should I use with this motor? — The appropriate battery depends on your vehicle configuration and desired performance. The motor's brushless design works with LiPo, LiFe, NiMH and other battery chemistries. Battery voltage selection typically depends on your electronic speed controller's capabilities and your desired performance characteristics. A compatible ESC will have a specified voltage range (commonly 2S to 4S LiPo for mid-range applications), and you should select battery capacity based on desired runtime and your vehicle's weight and aerodynamic characteristics.
- What size ESC do I need for this motor? — The electronic speed controller current rating must exceed the peak current your motor will draw, which depends on vehicle weight, desired acceleration, and battery voltage. For a mid-range 3000Kv motor in typical RC car UK applications, ESCs in the 60A to 100A range are commonly used, though specific requirements depend on your exact setup. Spektrum offers ESC options specifically matched to Firma motors, and the motor's specifications should be cross-referenced with ESC documentation to ensure compatible operation.
- Is this motor suitable for beginners? — This brushless motor is excellent for anyone upgrading from brushed systems or building a performance RC setup. Brushless motors are actually easier to maintain than brushed alternatives, making them ideal even for newcomers to RC hobbies. However, you'll need compatible components including an ESC, battery, and mechanical components, so this motor is best suited for builders with some RC experience or those willing to research complete system requirements.
- What vehicles can this motor be used in? — The 2848 size and 3000Kv rating make this motor suitable for various 1/10-scale and similar-sized RC vehicles including buggies, trucks, on-road cars, and short-course race trucks. Specific applications depend on your vehicle's gearing, weight distribution, and aerodynamic characteristics. Spektrum provides compatibility information for their Firma motors, and you should consult your vehicle's specifications to confirm this motor is appropriate for your intended application.
