Overview
The Traxxas Short Ultra Shock Springs (1.16-Rate Green Stripe) represent essential suspension tuning components for RC enthusiasts and competitive racers across the UK. These springs are precision-engineered to provide fine-tuned suspension performance, allowing drivers to optimise their RC car's handling characteristics whether you're running a Mini Rally VXL, Mini Slash BL-2S, or other compatible Traxxas models. For anyone serious about getting the best performance from their ready to run RC car, suspension tuning is non-negotiable, and these OEM Traxxas springs are the gold standard for achieving consistent, predictable handling on track or off-road.
Whether you're a weekend basher looking to improve ride quality, a serious racer fine-tuning your setup for competition, or an RC enthusiast experimenting with different suspension configurations, understanding and adjusting spring rates is fundamental to RC car performance. The 1.16-rate specification makes these springs ideal for drivers seeking a specific balance between compliance and responsiveness, and the green stripe colour coding ensures you can easily identify them in your parts box. Sold as a pair, these springs give you a complete suspension upgrade for one axle, making them an economical choice for RC car UK buyers who want genuine Traxxas components without the premium price of a full suspension kit.
Traxxas is recognised worldwide as the leader in RC innovation, and these shock springs exemplify that commitment to quality and performance. By choosing genuine Traxxas suspension parts, you're investing in reliability, consistency, and the same components used by professional RC racers. RC Model Shop stocks all the genuine Traxxas spare parts you need to keep your RC vehicle performing at its best.
Key Features
- 1.16 Spring Rate — The spring rate determines how stiff or soft the suspension feels; a 1.16 rate provides a measured stiffness that works well for balanced handling, making these springs versatile enough for various track conditions and vehicle weights across different Traxxas models.
- High-Quality Spring Steel Construction — These springs are manufactured from premium spring steel with a natural finish, ensuring they maintain consistent performance through thousands of compression cycles without loss of preload or cracking, a critical requirement for reliable RC suspension tuning.
- Natural Finish — The natural steel finish provides a classic appearance whilst maintaining durability and corrosion resistance under normal use, ensuring these springs look professional and maintain their structural integrity season after season.
- Green Stripe Colour Coding — The distinctive green stripe makes identification instant and foolproof, eliminating confusion when swapping springs or comparing different rates during setup experiments, especially valuable when you have multiple spring sets in your workshop.
- Suspension Tuning Flexibility — Different spring rates allow you to tune your suspension performance or compensate for lighter or heavier vehicle configurations, meaning you can adapt your RC car's handling to match your driving style, track conditions, or payload variations.
- Higher Rate = Stiffer Spring — Understanding the relationship between spring rate and stiffness is essential for tuning; a higher rate produces a stiffer spring for tighter handling and better support under aggressive driving, whilst lower rates provide more compliance for smoother ride quality.
- Sold as Matching Pair — These springs come as a pair, providing complete coverage for suspension tuning on one axle, ensuring matched performance across both sides and eliminating the likelihood of asymmetrical handling caused by mismatched spring rates.
- OEM Traxxas Components — As genuine manufacturer parts, these springs are engineered to exact specifications for compatibility and performance, guaranteeing fitment and behaviour that matches your vehicle's suspension geometry and design parameters.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas Short Ultra Shock Springs represent the culmination of decades of RC suspension engineering expertise, manufactured to exacting tolerances from premium spring steel that maintains its properties through extensive use. The 1.16-rate specification strikes a balance in the Traxxas spring range, providing moderate stiffness suitable for various driving scenarios, from smooth track conditions to rougher terrain. Spring rate is measured in the force required to compress the spring a specific distance, and in the context of RC cars, this measurement directly influences how your vehicle handles bumps, absorbs landing impacts, and maintains consistent ride height during cornering. The natural finish on these springs is more than aesthetic; it provides inherent corrosion resistance and allows you to inspect the spring material for any signs of stress or damage. These springs are short design, meaning they're engineered for compact shock towers found on modern Traxxas models including the Mini Rally VXL Ford RS200 (available in red, blue, and grey variants) and the Mini Slash BL-2S 4X4 short course truck (available in pink, green, yellow, and orange colourways). Traxxas suspension components are designed with precision manufacturing that ensures repeatability and consistency, critical factors when you're chasing hundredths of a second in competitive racing or simply trying to dial in perfect handling for weekend bashing. The engineering behind these springs means they'll maintain their spring rate characteristics across temperature variations common in UK weather conditions, from cold winter track days to warmer summer sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a 1.16 spring rate and how soft or stiff is it compared to other options? — Spring rate is measured in the force required to compress the spring; a 1.16 rate falls into the moderate range of Traxxas spring options, providing neither extreme softness nor extreme stiffness, making it suitable for balanced driving and general-purpose use across varied track conditions and driving styles.
- Are these springs compatible with my Traxxas RC car? — These Short Ultra Shock Springs are specifically designed for Traxxas models including the Mini Rally VXL Ford RS200 (red, blue, and grey versions) and the Mini Slash BL-2S 4X4 RTR short course truck (pink, green, yellow, and orange variants); check your vehicle model against the compatibility list to ensure proper fitment.
- Why should I upgrade or change my shock springs? — Changing spring rates allows you to adapt your RC car's suspension to different driving conditions, vehicle weight, personal driving style, and track characteristics; softer springs provide more compliance and smoother ride quality, while stiffer springs offer better support and tighter handling for aggressive driving.
- How do I know what spring rate I currently have installed? — Traxxas springs feature colour-coded stripe markings that identify the spring rate; the green stripe on these 1.16-rate springs makes identification instant, allowing you to easily compare and swap between different rates during tuning sessions.
- Can I mix different spring rates on the same vehicle? — Whilst technically possible, mixing spring rates will create asymmetrical suspension behaviour and unpredictable handling characteristics; for optimal performance, use matching rates on both sides of an axle and consistent rates front-to-rear unless deliberately tuning for specific handling characteristics.
- Do these springs require any special tools to install? — Installation requires basic RC tools including a hex wrench set and potentially a spring compressor depending on your shock design; consult your vehicle's manual for specific installation instructions and torque specifications.
- How often should I replace my shock springs? — Quality Traxxas springs like these maintain their rate characteristics through extensive use; replace them only when they show visible damage, cracking, or loss of preload, or when you deliberately want to change your suspension tuning characteristics.
- Are these springs suitable for beginners? — Yes, these springs are suitable for anyone running compatible Traxxas models; the 1.16 rate provides balanced characteristics that work well straight out of the box, though beginners may find exploring different rates educational as they develop their tuning knowledge.
