Overview
The Traxxas 13-Tooth Rear Differential Pinion Gear TRX10862 is an essential spare part for RC enthusiasts in the UK who are upgrading or maintaining their Traxxas Mini Rally VXL Ford RS200 vehicles. This precision-engineered differential pinion gear is specifically designed to work in harmony with shorter centre driveshafts, allowing you to fine-tune your RC car's performance and handling characteristics. Whether you're a competitive racer looking to optimise your setup or a weekend basher keen to experiment with different drivetrain configurations, this genuine Traxxas component ensures reliability and consistent performance on the track or trail.
Differential gears are critical components in any RC car's drivetrain system, responsible for distributing power between the wheels whilst allowing them to rotate at different speeds during cornering. The 13-tooth pinion configuration works in conjunction with the 37-tooth ring gear to create the gear ratio that determines your vehicle's acceleration, torque delivery and overall performance characteristics. This particular gear is engineered to Traxxas's exacting standards, ensuring perfect meshing, minimal wear and maximum durability whether you're running on tarmac, dirt or mixed terrain.
For RC car enthusiasts across the UK, investing in quality spare parts like this genuine Traxxas pinion gear demonstrates a commitment to maintaining your vehicle in peak condition and unlocking its true potential. This is not a generic aftermarket part—it's an authentic Traxxas component manufactured to exact tolerances, ensuring compatibility and longevity. If you're upgrading your Mini Rally VXL's drivetrain or replacing a worn differential gear, the TRX10862 is the correct choice for reliable, consistent performance.
Key Features
- 13-Tooth Pinion Design — This gear features precisely 13 teeth engineered for use with the 37-tooth ring gear, creating a balanced gear ratio that's specifically calibrated for use with shorter centre driveshafts in your Traxxas Mini Rally VXL. The tooth count directly affects your vehicle's acceleration, top speed and torque characteristics, making this a critical tuning component for RC enthusiasts seeking to optimise performance.
- Compatibility with Shorter Driveshafts — This pinion gear is engineered to work seamlessly with the shorter 10857 or 10855X centre driveshafts, allowing you to reconfigure your drivetrain geometry and alter your vehicle's handling balance and responsiveness. This flexibility makes it an excellent choice for drivers experimenting with different setup configurations or upgrading their vehicles.
- Works with Optional Slipper Clutch — The TRX10862 requires the optional 10758 slipper clutch to be installed alongside the shorter driveshafts. A slipper clutch protects your differential and drivetrain components by allowing the wheels to slip relative to the motor during high-impact collisions or extreme load conditions, preventing catastrophic damage and extending the life of your RC car's most expensive components.
- Compatible with Centre Differential System — This pinion gear integrates with the optional 10760-series centre differential, an advanced component that provides enhanced traction control and weight distribution across all four wheels. The centre differential system is particularly valuable for competitive drivers and those running complex tuning setups who demand maximum performance from their RC vehicle.
- Genuine Traxxas Manufacturing — As an authentic Traxxas OEM component, this pinion gear is manufactured to exacting quality standards with precision machinery and premium materials, ensuring perfect mesh with mating components, minimal play and maximum durability. Genuine parts protect your warranty and guarantee compatibility with your Traxxas vehicle.
- Precise Engineering for Consistent Performance — Every tooth on this pinion gear is machined to exact specifications, ensuring smooth engagement with the ring gear and eliminating vibration, noise and premature wear. This precision engineering directly translates to smoother acceleration, more responsive handling and longer component lifespan.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas 13-Tooth Rear Differential Pinion Gear represents the pinnacle of RC drivetrain engineering, manufactured using premium materials and precision machining techniques that ensure consistent performance and longevity. This component works as part of the differential assembly, which is one of the most critical systems in any RC car's drivetrain. The 13-tooth pinion meshes with the 37-tooth ring gear to establish the overall gear ratio—a fundamental parameter that determines how power is distributed from the motor to the wheels and directly influences acceleration, top speed, torque delivery and overall vehicle responsiveness. The specific tooth count of this pinion gear is calculated to provide optimal performance when used with shorter centre driveshafts (parts 10857 or 10855X), making it essential for drivers who are implementing this particular drivetrain configuration. The gear's design incorporates hardened steel construction to withstand the enormous forces and stresses generated during acceleration, deceleration and cornering in competitive RC racing or aggressive bashing. When paired with the optional 10758 slipper clutch, this pinion gear benefits from integrated protection against sudden shocks and impacts that could otherwise damage the differential assembly. The 10760-series centre differential compatibility opens up advanced tuning possibilities for drivers seeking to optimise weight distribution and traction characteristics across all four wheels. Every gear tooth is finished to exacting tolerances, ensuring perfect mesh geometry that minimises backlash, vibration and wear whilst maximising power transmission efficiency and component lifespan.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this 13-tooth pinion gear compatible with all Traxxas RC cars? — No, this pinion gear is specifically engineered for use with the Traxxas Mini Rally VXL Ford RS200 range (available in red, blue, and grey colour options). It is designed to work exclusively with the shorter 10857 or 10855X centre driveshafts and must be paired with either the 10758 slipper clutch or 10760-series centre differential to function correctly. Always verify compatibility with your specific vehicle model before purchasing.
- What does the 13-tooth specification mean and why does it matter? — The tooth count directly affects your differential's gear ratio when meshed with the 37-tooth ring gear. A 13-tooth pinion creates a specific ratio that determines acceleration, top speed and torque delivery. Lower tooth count pinions provide higher acceleration but potentially lower top speed, whilst the 13-tooth configuration is optimised for the shorter driveshaft setup used in Mini Rally VXL vehicles, balancing responsiveness with overall performance characteristics.
- Do I need the slipper clutch to use this pinion gear? — Yes, this pinion gear requires either the 10758 slipper clutch or the 10760-series centre differential to be installed alongside the shorter driveshafts. The slipper clutch is essential as it protects your differential assembly from damage during hard impacts and collisions by allowing controlled slipping, preventing catastrophic drivetrain failure and extending component lifespan.
- Is this suitable for beginners in the RC hobby? — This is an intermediate-level spare part suitable for RC enthusiasts with foundational knowledge of RC car maintenance and drivetrain assembly. Installing a differential pinion gear requires familiarity with RC vehicle disassembly, gear mesh adjustment and reassembly procedures. Beginners should consult the official Traxxas instruction manual or seek guidance from experienced RC enthusiasts before attempting installation. However, as a genuine Traxxas component, it provides peace of mind through authenticated quality and warranty protection.
- How do I know if my differential pinion gear needs replacing? — Signs of wear include grinding noises during acceleration, loss of power transmission efficiency, visible tooth damage or chipping, and difficulty with smooth gear engagement. If you notice any of these symptoms or are upgrading your drivetrain to shorter driveshafts, the TRX10862 is the correct replacement component for your Mini Rally VXL Ford RS200.
