Technical Performance

The Corally 32 DP Pinion represents the pinnacle of gear manufacturing precision, combining hardened steel durability with CNC-cut tooth geometry to deliver unmatched performance in RC cars UK. The special hardened steel material provides exceptional resistance to tooth wear, bending, and fracture, which is essential when transmitting power from high-torque brushless motors to your vehicle's drivetrain. The precision of the CNC cutting process ensures that every tooth is perfectly shaped and positioned, creating ultra-true running with minimal runout — this translates directly to vibration-free operation, smoother acceleration, and more consistent speed delivery to your wheels. With a module rating of 32 DP, this gear is designed to work seamlessly with standard 32 DP spur gears, the most common size in modern electric RC cars and competitive race vehicles. The 17-tooth count strikes an excellent balance, offering more acceleration than smaller pinions whilst still maintaining respectable top-end speed — the exact gear ratio achieved will depend on which spur gear you pair it with, allowing you to customise your RC vehicle's performance characteristics to suit your driving style and track layout. The 3.17mm shaft diameter accommodates the vast majority of brushless RC motors available today, from entry-level ready to run RC vehicles to high-end competition models. At just 9mm in overall length and with 4mm wide teeth, this pinion minimises weight without sacrificing strength, critical for responsive handling and acceleration. The hardened steel construction means you can expect hundreds of charge cycles of reliable service, making this a cost-effective long-term investment in your RC hobby. Whether you're running a 2WD buggy, 4WD truck, or specialist competition vehicle, this pinion delivers the precision engineering and durability that separates amateur setups from championship-winning packages.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Corally C-71517 pinion suitable for beginners and casual RC car UK hobbyists? — Yes, absolutely. While this is a precision component that serious competitors and tuners appreciate, it's equally suitable for beginners and casual drivers. The installation is straightforward — it simply slides onto your motor shaft and is secured with a 1.5mm hex key — and it requires no special knowledge or tools beyond basic RC maintenance. The durability of the hardened steel means even new drivers won't wear it out quickly, making it an economical choice for learning the basics of RC car setup and maintenance.
  • What is the 32 DP specification and why does it matter? — 32 DP (Diametral Pitch) is a gear sizing standard that defines the relationship between tooth count and overall gear diameter. The higher the DP number, the smaller and finer the teeth. 32 DP is the most common standard in modern brushless RC cars and electric RC vehicles, meaning this pinion will be compatible with the vast majority of spur gears currently available. This standardisation is crucial because it ensures you can easily find matching spur gears from multiple manufacturers to achieve the exact gear ratio you want for your specific driving conditions.
  • What difference does the 17-tooth count make to my RC car's performance? — The tooth count directly affects your vehicle's gear ratio and therefore its acceleration and top speed characteristics. A 17-tooth pinion paired with a smaller spur gear gives you higher acceleration and more torque, whilst paired with a larger spur gear it provides higher top-end speed. For example, 17T pinion with 67T spur gives approximately 3.94:1 ratio, whilst 17T with 72T gives 4.24:1. Most drivers find the 17-tooth pinion gives an excellent balance between acceleration and speed for general track use, though your ideal setup depends on track length and your driving style.
  • Is hardened steel better than standard steel for RC pinion gears? — Yes, significantly. Hardened steel has been heat-treated to increase its hardness and wear resistance, making it substantially more durable than standard steel. This means the teeth will resist wear and tooth stripping much longer, especially important if you're running a high-torque brushless motor or driving aggressively. The hardened steel construction ensures this pinion will outlast softer alternatives, making it better value for money over the long term and more reliable during competitive racing.
  • Will this pinion fit my brushless RC motor? — The Corally C-71517 is designed for 3.17mm motor shafts, which is the standard size for the vast majority of brushless RC motors used in UK hobbyist and racing vehicles. This includes motors from major manufacturers and fits most popular RC cars including competitive race vehicles. However, you should verify your specific motor's shaft diameter (check your motor specifications or measure it) before ordering, as some specialist or vintage motors may use different shaft sizes.
  • How do I install this pinion on my RC car? — Installation is simple: slide the pinion onto your motor shaft until it sits properly, then use the 1.5mm hex key to secure the set screw, tightening it firmly but not over-tightening which could damage the shaft. Most RC hobbyists perform this task as part of regular maintenance. If you're unsure, your local RC shop or online RC community can provide guidance.
  • What makes Corally pinions different from other brands? — Team Corally is recognised for manufacturing precision gears using CNC machinery and special hardened steel, with exacting European manufacturing standards. The ultra-precise tooth shaping and ultra-true running that Corally achieves translates to vibration-free operation and consistent performance. Many competitive RC racers specifically choose Corally gears because of the precision manufacturing and long-term reliability, though the pinions are affordable enough for casual hobbyists too.
  • How long will this pinion last? — With proper care, a hardened steel pinion from Corally will typically last hundreds of battery charge cycles. The exact lifespan depends on motor torque, driving aggression, maintenance practices, and whether the vehicle is used on abrasive tracks. The hardened steel construction significantly extends life compared to standard steel pinions, making this a solid long-term investment.
