Key Features
- 14-Pole Motor Design — The 14-pole construction provides a balanced approach to motor performance, delivering smooth power characteristics across a wide operating range whilst maintaining excellent efficiency even at varying throttle settings.
- 770Kv Rating — This medium Kv specification is ideal for aircraft designs requiring moderate to high RPM with good torque characteristics, making it suitable for a wide variety of electric RC aircraft applications from sport flying to scale models.
- Brushless Outrunner Configuration — The outrunner design means the rotating bell surrounds the motor windings, providing superior cooling efficiency and direct drive capability that maximises performance and longevity compared to brushed alternatives.
- Sensorless Operation — The sensorless design eliminates the need for additional sensor wiring and connections, simplifying your build and reducing potential failure points in the electrical system, whilst still delivering reliable motor startup and smooth operation.
- Quality Spektrum Engineering — Built to the exacting standards you'd expect from a manufacturer of Spektrum's reputation, ensuring consistent performance, reliable power delivery and longevity that justifies your investment in quality RC equipment.
Technical Performance
The SPM 3741-770Kv represents serious engineering designed specifically for RC aircraft applications. This brushless outrunner motor combines 14 magnetic poles with a 770Kv constant that delivers the kind of balanced performance characteristics essential for stable, responsive flight. The motor size classification places it squarely in the mid-range category, making it compatible with a diverse array of aircraft designs from sleek aerobatic models to realistic scale replicas. The sensorless brushless technology eliminates commutation points and brush wear, delivering maintenance-free operation and consistent performance throughout the motor's lifespan. For UK RC aircraft builders and enthusiasts, this motor's construction quality, proven reliability track record and versatile performance envelope make it an excellent foundation for building high-quality electric-powered aircraft. The outrunner configuration provides exceptional cooling characteristics by exposing the rotating mass to ambient air, which allows extended operational periods without thermal stress. When paired with an appropriately rated brushless ESC and suitable LiPo battery configuration, this motor will deliver smooth, responsive power delivery that transforms your aircraft flying experience.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this brushless RC motor suitable for beginners building their first electric aircraft? — Yes, this motor is suitable for builders with intermediate experience who understand basic RC aircraft construction and electrical systems. The sensorless design simplifies wiring compared to sensored alternatives, though you should ensure you select an appropriately rated ESC and battery configuration to match the motor's specifications. If you're new to RC aircraft building, we'd recommend consulting experienced builders or our knowledgeable RC Model Shop team for guidance on complete system setup.
- What battery does the SPM 3741-770Kv motor require? — The specific battery requirements depend on your aircraft design, desired flight characteristics and ESC selection. The 770Kv rating typically works well with 3S to 4S LiPo battery configurations, though your aircraft's weight and power requirements will determine the exact battery capacity needed. A larger aircraft or one requiring higher sustained power output might benefit from a 4S setup, whilst lighter models may perform excellently on 3S. Consult your aircraft plans or contact our RC Model Shop team for specific recommendations.
- What is the difference between this 770Kv motor and other Spektrum brushless outrunner motors? — The primary difference lies in the Kv rating, which directly affects the motor's RPM output at a given voltage. Lower Kv motors (like 480Kv or 540Kv variants) produce higher torque but lower maximum RPM, making them suitable for heavier aircraft or those using larger propellers. The 770Kv rating represents a middle ground, offering balanced RPM and torque characteristics. Higher Kv motors like 910Kv or 1000Kv variants produce very high RPM with lower torque, suitable for lighter aircraft or those designed for high-speed performance. The 14-pole configuration remains consistent across many Spektrum brushless motors, providing the smooth power delivery that characterises quality Spektrum motor engineering.
- Do I need any additional sensors or electronics beyond an ESC and battery? — No, the sensorless brushless design means the motor operates without requiring dedicated sensor wires or additional electronic modules. Your setup simply requires the motor, a brushless ESC rated for your system, a properly configured LiPo battery, and your aircraft structure with propeller and mounting hardware.
- Can this motor handle continuous high-power operation, or is it better for intermittent use? — The motor's brushless outrunner design provides excellent heat dissipation through the exposed rotating bell, allowing for extended operational periods compared to many inrunner alternatives. However, like all RC motors, sustained operation at maximum power output will generate heat. Typical RC aircraft flights are measured in minutes rather than hours, so normal flying operations should present no thermal concerns. If you're planning extended flights or continuous high-power operation, ensure your ESC has adequate cooling and your flight envelope doesn't require sustained maximum throttle.
