Overview
The Traxxas Shocks, GT-Maxx, rear, aluminium, orange-anodised (fully assembled without springs) represent a premium suspension upgrade for serious RC enthusiasts in the UK looking to enhance their Traxxas Maxx monster truck. These high-performance rear shock absorbers are engineered to provide exceptional damping on the roughest terrain, allowing you to push your RC car to its limits with confidence. Whether you're a weekend basher or a competitive racer, these orange-anodised shocks deliver the responsiveness and durability that Traxxas is renowned for, and they're sold as a pair to ensure balanced suspension geometry.
Designed specifically for the GT-Maxx platform, these fully assembled shocks come ready to install (springs sold separately) and represent the perfect upgrade path for owners of a Traxxas Maxx RC monster truck who want to elevate their machine's performance. The combination of machined aluminium bodies with bright anodising creates a visually striking suspension setup that also provides genuine performance benefits. With their extra-large diameter shock shafts and advanced sealing technology, these shocks are built to withstand the demanding conditions that UK RC enthusiasts regularly encounter, from rough terrain bashing to technical course work.
The orange anodising not only gives your RC car a stunning aesthetic upgrade but also provides excellent corrosion resistance, ensuring your investment maintains its appearance and function through countless hours of use. If you're serious about getting the most from your brushless RC monster truck, upgrading to GT-Maxx shocks is one of the most impactful suspension modifications available.
Key Features
- Extra-Large Diameter Shock Shafts — The oversized shock shafts provide superior rigidity and damping response compared to standard shocks, meaning your RC car will maintain better control through rough terrain and aggressive driving, with more precise feedback through the chassis.
- Double X-Ring Seals — These advanced sealing rings keep damping oil secure inside the shock body whilst allowing the extra-large diameter shaft to move smoothly through them, eliminating friction that would otherwise reduce responsiveness and cause premature wear.
- Machined Aluminium Bodies — Precision-machined from high-quality aluminium, these shock bodies offer a perfect balance of lightweight construction and exceptional strength, crucial for maintaining performance during high-impact landings and aggressive driving.
- Bright Orange Anodising — The vivid orange anodised finish isn't just for show; anodising creates a protective oxide layer that resists corrosion and wear, keeping your shocks looking stunning whilst providing genuine durability benefits through extended use.
- Threaded Bodies and Collars — These allow precise ride height adjustment without requiring additional tools or complicated procedures, meaning you can fine-tune your suspension geometry to suit different terrain types and driving styles.
- Captured Lower Spring Retainers — The lower spring retainers are secured by screws, preventing them from loosening or becoming lost during even the harshest landings and bumpy driving conditions.
- Fully Assembled Configuration — These shocks arrive ready to install straight from the box; you simply need to add your chosen springs to complete the setup, offering convenience and flexibility in spring selection.
- GT-Maxx Specific Design — Engineered precisely for Traxxas Maxx models, these shocks integrate perfectly with the WideMaxx suspension geometry, delivering the ultimate in traction and stability for your monster truck.
Technical Performance
The GT-Maxx rear shocks represent a significant engineering achievement in suspension technology for RC cars. The extra-large diameter shock shafts work in conjunction with the double X-ring seals to provide a smooth, controlled damping action that absorbs impacts whilst maintaining consistent ride height. This is particularly important when pushing your Traxxas Maxx to its limits, as the shocks must handle the tremendous forces generated during high-speed runs, jumps, and rough terrain bashings. The machined aluminium bodies are not only stronger than composite alternatives but also conduct heat away from the damping fluid more effectively, maintaining consistent performance even during extended driving sessions. The bright orange anodising is achieved through an electrochemical process that creates a protective layer on the aluminium surface, significantly enhancing corrosion resistance compared to bare metal. These shocks are designed to work seamlessly with the Maxx's WideMaxx suspension geometry, which is specifically engineered for superior traction and stability. The threaded bodies and collars allow precise ride height tuning, whilst the captured spring retainers utilise a screw-based retention system that ensures complete security even during extreme landings. Note that these shocks are sold without springs, allowing you to select springs that match your specific weight, driving style, and terrain preferences. Installation is straightforward for experienced RC enthusiasts, requiring only standard tools and basic mechanical knowledge. The shocks are fully assembled and tested at the factory, meaning they're ready for immediate installation once you've added your chosen springs.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these shocks suitable for my Traxxas Maxx RC monster truck? — Yes, these GT-Maxx rear shocks are specifically engineered for Traxxas Maxx models and integrate perfectly with the WideMaxx suspension geometry. They're designed to provide superior traction and stability compared to standard shocks, making them an ideal upgrade for any Maxx owner looking to enhance performance.
- Why are springs sold separately? — Springs are sold separately because different drivers have different preferences regarding suspension stiffness based on their weight, driving style, and terrain type. By purchasing shocks without springs, you have complete flexibility to select springs that precisely match your needs, rather than being locked into a generic setup.
- What makes the double X-ring seals special compared to standard seals? — Double X-ring seals provide superior sealing compared to single-ring designs whilst also allowing the extra-large diameter shock shafts to move smoothly without friction. This combination ensures your damping oil stays contained, your shocks maintain consistent performance, and responsiveness is maximised throughout extended driving sessions.
- Can I adjust the ride height with these shocks? — Yes, the threaded bodies and adjustable collars allow precise ride height tuning without requiring additional special tools. Simply adjust the collars on the threaded bodies to raise or lower your Maxx's suspension as needed.
- How durable are these orange-anodised shock bodies? — The orange anodising is created through an electrochemical process that forms a protective oxide layer on the aluminium surface. This provides exceptional corrosion resistance and wear protection, meaning your shocks will maintain their appearance and function through countless hours of use in various UK weather conditions.
- What is the difference between these GT-Maxx shocks and standard Maxx shocks? — GT-Maxx shocks feature extra-large diameter shock shafts for superior rigidity and damping response, double X-ring seals for smoother action, and are specifically engineered for the WideMaxx suspension geometry. They provide more responsive handling and better performance on rough terrain compared to standard shocks.
