Overview
The Traxxas Shocks GT-Maxx front suspension components represent professional-grade damping technology designed specifically for the Traxxas GT-Maxx pro-scale sand car platform. These fully assembled aluminium shock absorbers deliver exceptional handling performance across a wide variety of terrain, from smooth track surfaces to rough, unforgiving off-road landscapes. Whether you're an experienced RC enthusiast looking to upgrade your suspension setup or a competitive racer seeking that crucial performance edge, these front shocks provide the responsive damping characteristics that serious RC car UK enthusiasts demand from their equipment.
As a pair of front-only shocks, these components are engineered to work seamlessly with the GT-Maxx platform, offering improved ride quality and vehicle stability during aggressive driving. The shocks come fully assembled and ready to install, though springs are sold separately, allowing you to customise your suspension stiffness to match your specific driving style and terrain preferences. With their bright orange anodised finish, these shocks not only perform exceptionally well but also add a striking visual enhancement to your RC vehicle, making them as visually impressive as they are functionally superior.
If you're serious about RC performance and want suspension components that can handle demanding driving conditions whilst maintaining the responsiveness needed for precision control, the Traxxas GT-Maxx front shocks are an excellent investment in your RC car setup. Available from RC Model Shop, these genuine Traxxas components are backed by the manufacturer's reputation for quality engineering and durability.
Key Features
- Extra-large diameter shock shafts — The oversized shaft design moves smoothly through double X-ring seals, ensuring responsive and consistent damping performance even when driving aggressively or over rough terrain, which directly translates to better handling and vehicle control.
- Double X-ring seals — This advanced sealing system maintains suspension fluid integrity and prevents dust and debris ingress, keeping your shocks performing smoothly throughout extended driving sessions and protecting your investment in suspension quality.
- Machined aluminium bodies — Precision-machined from quality aluminium, the shock bodies combine lightweight construction with exceptional durability, reducing unsprung weight while maintaining structural integrity under the stresses of competitive driving and bashing.
- Bright orange anodised finish — The eye-catching anodised coating provides both aesthetic appeal and corrosion protection, ensuring your suspension components look as good as they perform while resisting oxidation and weathering.
- Threaded bodies and collars — Adjustment of ride height is simple and precise thanks to the threaded design, allowing you to fine-tune your vehicle's ground clearance and suspension geometry to optimise handling characteristics for different track layouts and driving conditions.
- Captured lower spring retainers — The spring retainers are secured by screws, preventing them from becoming loose during intense landings and rough driving, ensuring consistent suspension geometry and eliminating potential failures during competition or recreational use.
- Fully assembled construction — Arriving ready to install, these shocks save you assembly time and eliminate guesswork, allowing you to get your GT-Maxx platform upgraded and back on the track quickly.
- Springs sold separately — This design allows experienced builders and racers to select their own spring rates and progressive spring options, enabling complete customisation of your suspension setup to match your weight preference, driving style and terrain conditions.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas GT-Maxx front shocks represent a significant advancement in RC suspension technology, engineered specifically for the demands of high-performance driving in a 1/10 scale RC sand car platform. The extra-large diameter shock shafts deliver substantially improved damping responsiveness compared to conventional smaller-diameter designs, while the double X-ring seal arrangement ensures that suspension fluid remains sealed and protected throughout extended use. The machined aluminium construction provides the perfect balance between weight savings and structural rigidity, critical factors in maintaining precise vehicle control during high-speed runs and technical terrain navigation. The bright orange anodised finish isn't merely aesthetic—it provides a protective oxide layer that resists corrosion and weathering, ensuring these components maintain their performance and appearance for years of use. With threaded bodies allowing infinitely adjustable ride height and captured spring retainers held securely by screws, these shocks offer both the tuning flexibility serious racers demand and the reliability weekend bashers require. The fully assembled, springs-sold-separately design means you can immediately begin using these shocks whilst selecting progressive spring rates that complement your specific setup requirements and driving preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these shocks suitable for beginners or do I need racing experience to use them? — These shocks are suitable for anyone looking to upgrade their GT-Maxx suspension, from recreational bashers to competitive racers. The design is straightforward to install, though you'll benefit from selecting appropriate spring rates for your skill level and driving style. If you're new to RC car UK platforms, RC Model Shop team members can advise you on spring selection to match your needs.
- Do I need to purchase springs separately, and how do I choose the right ones? — Yes, springs are sold separately from these shocks. Your choice of spring stiffness affects how your vehicle responds to terrain—softer springs provide more plush damping over rough ground and are generally better for beginners, while stiffer springs offer quicker response and are preferred by experienced racers on smoother tracks. Consider your driving style, vehicle weight, and typical terrain when selecting progressive springs.
- What makes these shocks better than standard shock absorbers? — The extra-large diameter shafts combined with double X-ring seals provide superior damping responsiveness and consistency compared to smaller-diameter shock designs. The machined aluminium construction and bright anodising offer durability and corrosion resistance, whilst the threaded bodies allow precise ride-height adjustment. These features combine to deliver professional-level performance and reliability.
- Can I use these front shocks on other Traxxas models besides the GT-Maxx? — These shocks are specifically engineered for the GT-Maxx platform. While compatibility with other models may be possible, we recommend consulting RC Model Shop or Traxxas technical support before attempting to use them on alternative platforms, as suspension geometry and performance characteristics may be compromised.
- How do I maintain and care for these shocks to ensure longevity? — Keep the shafts clean and free from dirt and sand after each use, as contamination can compromise the X-ring seals and damping performance. Periodically check the threaded bodies and spring retainer screws remain tight. If you notice reduced damping performance or oil leakage, the shocks may require professional servicing or rebuild, which Traxxas authorised retailers can arrange.
- What is the difference between front and rear GT-Maxx shocks? — Front shocks are engineered with specific geometry and damping characteristics suited to the aerodynamic and weight distribution dynamics of front-end suspension, whilst rear shocks are tuned for different load characteristics. Using the correct shocks in their designated positions ensures optimal handling balance and performance.
