Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Spektrum Firma 3660-4000Kv motor suitable for beginners? — Yes, this motor is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced RC drivers. The brushless sensorless design requires no maintenance or tuning, making it very beginner-friendly. The 4000Kv rating provides good balance between speed and control, and at 300 grams, it's light enough to not cause handling issues even in a basic chassis. If you're new to RC and shopping for a brushless RC motor UK enthusiasts recommend, this Spektrum offering delivers reliability without complexity.
  • What battery does the Firma 3660-4000Kv need? — This motor is rated for 2-3S LiPo battery power, which means it operates on voltages between 7.4V (2S) and 11.1V (3S). A 2S battery provides more modest performance and longer run times, whilst a 3S battery unlocks maximum speed and power. Both options are readily available from RC retailers across the UK. Ensure your ESC is also rated for your chosen battery configuration.
  • Why choose a brushless motor instead of a brushed motor? — Brushless motors like this Spektrum offer numerous advantages over traditional brushed designs. They deliver 20-30% more efficiency, meaning longer runtime and less heat generation. Brushless motors require zero maintenance—no carbon brush replacement, no timing adjustments. They produce smoother power delivery with less cogging, resulting in more controllable acceleration and better overall handling. For serious RC drivers building competition setups or weekend bashers wanting reliability, brushless is the clear choice. This is why brushless RC car UK buyers prefer for both racing and recreational use.
  • What is the difference between this 4-pole motor and other pole count options? — Pole count refers to the number of permanent magnets in the rotor. The 4-pole design in this motor offers an excellent balance between smooth operation and responsiveness. Lower pole counts (2-pole) tend to have more cogging and less smooth power delivery. Higher pole counts (6-pole and above) offer even smoother operation but may sacrifice some responsiveness and top-end speed. The 4-pole configuration chosen for the Firma 3660-4000Kv represents the sweet spot for 1/8 scale RC vehicles, providing both smooth, refined performance and good power characteristics.
