Key Features
- Digital Circuit Design — The S-U305 features advanced digital circuitry that provides precise command response and better accuracy compared to analogue servos, ensuring your RC model responds exactly when you need it to. This is especially important for competitive RC racing and demanding aerobatic flying.
- Dual Control Protocol Support — This servo accepts both PWM and S.BUS2 commands, giving you flexibility whether you're using traditional PWM receivers or upgrading to the modern S.BUS2 protocol for cleaner installation and additional features in your RC radio system.
- Metal Gear Construction — The servo features a robust 2–3 stage gear system with metal gears throughout, including an aluminium final stage gear that provides exceptional durability and smooth, precise positioning even under load. Metal gears resist stripping far better than plastic alternatives, extending the life of your servo.
- 3-Pole Cored Motor — The high-quality 3-pole cored motor delivers consistent torque across the entire 4.8V to 6.0V voltage range, ensuring reliable performance whether you're running on standard 4.8V NiMH packs or higher-voltage 6.0V LiPo batteries commonly used in modern RC applications.
- Impressive Torque Output — With 8.9 kg/cm of torque at 6.0V (7.1 kg/cm at 4.8V), this servo has the muscle needed to control surfaces and mechanisms on a wide range of RC vehicles and aircraft, from small RC buggies to larger RC gliders and drones.
- Fast Response Speed — The S-U305 achieves a rapid 0.18 seconds per 60° rotation at 6.0V (0.23 seconds at 4.8V), providing quick, snappy control response that makes a noticeable difference in handling precision for RC cars and aircraft across the UK.
- Compact Standard Size — Measuring just 40.5 x 20 x 28.1mm and weighing only 46.5g, this servo fits into standard servo bays on virtually all RC vehicles and aircraft, making it an ideal drop-in replacement or upgrade for existing RC models.
- Standard Spline Compatibility — The servo features a 25-tooth (Ø6mm) spline that is the industry standard across most RC manufacturers, meaning you can source horns and linkages from an enormous range of suppliers across the UK without compatibility concerns.
Technical Performance
The Futaba S-U305 represents a significant step forward in servo technology for the RC hobby. Built with a 3-pole cored motor, this servo is engineered to deliver consistent performance across the entire 4.8V to 6.0V input range, making it compatible with both traditional 4-cell NiMH battery packs and modern lithium polymer systems. The metal gear train, featuring an aluminium final stage gear, is precision-manufactured to deliver smooth, backlash-free operation that translates directly into improved control feel in your RC car, RC buggy, RC crawler or RC aircraft. At 6.0V, the servo produces 8.9 kg/cm of torque whilst maintaining an impressively fast 0.18-second response time for 60° rotation — a performance envelope that places it squarely in the sweet spot for general-purpose RC applications. The digital circuitry provides precise signal interpretation and faster response than older analogue servo designs, which is particularly noticeable when operating RC vehicles at speed or performing aggressive manoeuvres in RC aircraft. The compact dimensions of 40.5 x 28.1mm and light weight of just 46.5g make installation straightforward in almost any RC platform, whilst the standard 25-tooth spline ensures access to thousands of aftermarket horns and linkage options from UK suppliers. The servo's ability to accept both PWM and S.BUS2 control protocols provides future-proofing for your RC investment, allowing you to upgrade your radio system without needing new servos.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What voltage does the Futaba S-U305 servo require? — The S-U305 operates across a 4.8V to 6.0V input range, making it compatible with 4-cell NiMH battery packs (4.8V nominal) and 2S LiPo batteries running at 6.0V nominal to 8.4V peak. Most RC hobbyists in the UK run these servos on either standard NiMH packs or 2S LiPo systems without any issues.
- Is this servo suitable for beginners to RC hobbies? — Yes, the S-U305 is an excellent choice for beginners and experienced RC enthusiasts alike. The standard size, reasonable cost and straightforward installation make it ideal for someone learning the ropes, whilst the digital circuitry and metal gears ensure performance that will satisfy more demanding users. It's a versatile servo that works across RC cars, buggies, crawlers and aircraft without compromise.
- What is the difference between PWM and S.BUS2 control? — PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) is the traditional control method used by RC servos for decades and requires a separate signal wire to the receiver for each servo. S.BUS2 is a modern protocol that allows multiple servos to be controlled through a single serial data line, resulting in much cleaner wiring, faster response times and the ability to send telemetry data back from servos to the radio system. The S-U305 supports both, giving you maximum flexibility.
- How much torque does this servo produce? — The S-U305 produces 8.9 kg/cm of torque at 6.0V and 7.1 kg/cm at 4.8V. This is sufficient for control surfaces on most standard RC vehicles and aircraft in the UK market, including medium-sized RC cars, buggies and RC gliders. If you need extreme torque for heavy RC trucks or giant-scale aircraft, you may want to consider a high-torque specialist servo.
- What is the response speed of this servo? — This servo achieves 0.18 seconds per 60° at 6.0V (0.23 seconds at 4.8V), which is considered fast by RC standards. This rapid response translates to snappier control feel in your RC model and is particularly noticeable when operating RC vehicles at high speed or performing precision RC aircraft manoeuvres.
- What does the metal gear construction mean for durability? — The metal gears in the S-U305 are far more resistant to stripping and wear than plastic alternatives. The 2–3 stage gear system with an aluminium final stage gear means your servo will maintain consistent performance through hundreds of hours of operation. RC enthusiasts across the UK consistently report that metal-geared servos last significantly longer than plastic-geared alternatives, making them a worthwhile investment.
- Will this servo fit my RC model? — The S-U305 is a standard-size servo measuring 40.5 x 20 x 28.1mm with a 25-tooth (Ø6mm) spline, which is the industry standard for RC applications. It will fit into the standard servo bays found on virtually all RC cars, buggies, crawlers and aircraft currently available in the UK. Simply check that your model has a standard servo compartment and you'll be good to go.
- Can I use this servo for RC aircraft and RC surface vehicles? — Yes, Futaba specifically markets the S-U305 as suitable for both air and surface RC applications. The combination of reasonable speed, adequate torque and standard size makes it equally at home controlling flight surfaces on RC gliders and aeroplanes as it is managing steering and throttle in RC cars, buggies and trucks.
