The R4FGM is an ideal receiver for UK-based RC enthusiasts looking for a dependable, compact radio system that works seamlessly with RadioLink's surface transmitters. Its reverse polarity protection design adds an extra layer of safety, ensuring that accidental power connection mistakes won't damage your receiver, whilst the wide 3-10V voltage input range means you can use high-voltage servos without any concerns about compatibility or performance degradation.

Key Features

  • 4-Channel Receiver with Integrated Gyro — The R4FGM combines a four-channel receiver with a built-in high-performance gyro system, eliminating the need for separate stabilisation modules and saving valuable space inside your RC car chassis. This integrated design is particularly valuable for compact 1:28-scale models where every millimetre of space counts.
  • FHSS Spread Spectrum Protocol with 67-Channel Frequency Hopping — The receiver employs a sophisticated frequency hopping spread spectrum algorithm with 67 channels of pseudo-random frequency hopping, providing exceptional anti-interference performance. This means you can enjoy multiplayer sessions with multiple cars running simultaneously without signal dropout or cross-interference, and the system is protected against interference from fuel engine spark ignition systems, making it safe for both electric and nitro-powered models.
  • Ultra-Compact Design at 25 x 13mm — At just 3g in weight and measuring only 25mm long by 13mm wide, the R4FGM is the perfect fit for mini RC cars and other space-constrained applications. This miniature footprint means you can install it in tight chassis configurations without modification or complex mounting solutions.
  • 3ms Response Time with RC8X Transmitter — When bound to a RadioLink RC8X transmitter (firmware V1.1.5 or above with FHSS V2 protocol selected, and R4FGM firmware V2.1 or factory date 2023/4/26 and later), the receiver can achieve a lightning-fast 3ms response latency. Alternative response times of 4ms and 14ms are also selectable, with 14ms recommended for analogue servos and 4ms or 3ms for digital servo compatibility.
  • Customisable Gyro Sensitivity with Software Filters — The integrated gyro utilises advanced software filtering and PID algorithm technology to provide timely and precise sensitivity correction. Gyro sensitivity can be adjusted using the PS3 switch to tailor the stabilisation effect to your specific model and driving environment, whether you're drift racing or performing stunts.
  • 4096 Resolution Control Ratio — The receiver features an exceptionally high resolution control ratio of 4096, delivering smooth, granular servo movement control. Combined with a stability specification of 0.25?s, low drop-out rate performance, and a high-speed 48MHz M0 processor, this ensures extremely fast and stable response within 3ms.
  • 400 Metres Control Distance — The stable remote-control distance extends up to 400 metres on the ground, providing ample range for outdoor RC car operations. This extended range opens up possibilities for camera-controlled FPV fun with a display screen or FPV goggles, allowing you to experience driving from a completely different perspective.
  • 3-10V Wide Voltage Input Range — The receiver accepts input voltage anywhere from 3V to 10V, making it compatible with a wide variety of battery configurations and high-voltage servo systems. This flexibility means you can run the receiver with standard LiPo batteries, NiMH batteries, or even higher-voltage servo-specific batteries without any modification.
  • Reverse Polarity Protection — The receiver incorporates reverse polarity protection design, meaning if you accidentally connect the power supply with inverted polarity, the receiver will not be damaged. This safety feature provides peace of mind during field use and rapid setup situations, though it's important to note that servos themselves do not have reverse polarity protection and should be carefully connected.

Technical Performance

The RadioLink R4FGM represents a significant engineering achievement in miniature RC receiver design. Built around a high-speed 48MHz M0 processor, the receiver delivers exceptional computational power for such a compact unit, enabling real-time gyro calculations and servo signal processing. The 4096 resolution control ratio ensures that even fine servo movements are captured and transmitted with precision, whilst the 0.25?s stability specification guarantees timing accuracy that keeps your RC car responding predictably to input. The FHSS spread spectrum implementation across 67 channels provides robust anti-interference performance, particularly important in crowded RC racing environments where multiple transmitters operate simultaneously. The integrated gyro system uses a dual-approach methodology combining software filtering with PID algorithm correction, allowing it to adapt to different driving conditions and vehicle setups without requiring external calibration. Whether you're running digital servos that benefit from the 3ms response time or analogue servos that prefer the 14ms timing, the R4FGM's selectable response profiles ensure compatibility across the full spectrum of RC servo hardware. The wide 3-10V voltage input accommodates everything from budget 2S LiPo batteries through to multi-cell high-voltage servo batteries, with the reverse polarity protection circuit safeguarding against the most common installation errors. All of this performance is packaged into a chassis measuring just 25 x 13mm and weighing only 3g, making the R4FGM the ideal receiver for anyone building compact, lightweight RC cars or operating space-constrained model platforms.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the RadioLink R4FGM suitable for beginners to RC cars in the UK? — The R4FGM is primarily designed for users with some RC experience, particularly those building or upgrading compact RC cars and drift vehicles. However, if you're a beginner with access to technical support and are willing to learn about receiver binding and servo configuration, it can absolutely work for you. The integrated gyro function is particularly helpful for beginners learning to drift, as it automatically corrects vehicle instability and makes the driving experience more forgiving during the learning phase.
  • What battery does the R4FGM need? — The receiver accepts any battery in the 3-10V range, giving you tremendous flexibility. A 2S LiPo (7.4V nominal) or 2S NiMH battery (2.4V nominal) are common choices for mini RC cars, though some builders use higher-voltage batteries for faster servo response. The receiver's wide input range means you can use virtually any battery configuration available in the UK RC market without voltage regulators or modification.
  • Can I achieve the 3ms response time with any transmitter? — The 3ms response time is specifically available when the R4FGM is bound to a RadioLink RC8X transmitter running firmware V1.1.5 or above with FHSS V2 protocol selected. The receiver must also be a V2.1 version or have a factory date of 2023/4/26 or later. With other RadioLink transmitters, the response time defaults to 14ms, which is perfectly adequate for analogue servos and general RC car use.
  • How does the gyro function help my RC car? — The integrated gyro constantly measures your RC car's rotation and automatically applies corrective steering inputs to stabilise the vehicle. This is particularly valuable for drift cars, where the gyro helps maintain control and prevents unwanted spinning out. You can adjust the gyro sensitivity using the PS3 switch, reducing the effect for smooth line drives or increasing it for aggressive drift manoeuvres. The combination of software filtering and PID algorithm ensures that gyro corrections happen smoothly without jitter or over-correction.
  • Will the R4FGM fit in my 1:28 mini RC car? — Yes, the R4FGM is specifically designed for 1:28-scale mini RC cars. Measuring just 25mm long and 13mm wide with a weight of only 3g, it will fit in virtually any compact chassis configuration without requiring modifications.
