Overview

The Radient NiMH 4.8V 1600mAh 2/3A SBS-Flat Rx-Jr receiver battery is a compact, reliable power solution designed specifically for radio-controlled models that require a low-profile battery pack. Whether you're flying RC helicopters, operating RC aircraft, or powering receiver systems in smaller RC vehicles, this 4-cell NiMH pack delivers consistent performance in a space-saving format. The flat SBS design makes it ideal for RC enthusiasts in the UK who need to fit batteries into tight spaces without compromising on capacity or reliability.

This battery pack represents excellent value for money and is particularly popular among modellers who prefer the durability and proven track record of nickel metal hydride (NiMH) chemistry. Unlike some newer battery technologies, NiMH batteries are forgiving, resilient, and simple to charge with standard RC chargers. The Rx-Jr connector ensures universal compatibility with most modern JR-style receiver battery leads, making this pack a straightforward choice for upgrading or replacing existing receiver batteries in your RC models.

As a dedicated UK RC retailer, RC Model Shop stocks the Radient range because we recognise the demand for quality, affordable receiver batteries among both hobbyists and serious competitors. The RDNBN1600S4JR combines proven NiMH reliability with practical design features that make it an essential spare or replacement battery for any RC enthusiast's toolkit.

Key Features

  • 4-Cell 4.8V Configuration — With four 1.2V NiMH cells combined in series, this pack delivers a standard 4.8V output that is compatible with most JR-style receiver systems and radio control equipment designed for 4-cell receiver packs. This voltage is ideal for powering servos and receivers reliably throughout your flight or driving session.
  • 1600mAh Capacity — The 1600mAh energy capacity provides a generous amount of runtime for receiver systems, allowing extended operating time before the battery requires recharging. This capacity strikes an excellent balance between size, weight and usable power.
  • 2/3A Cell Size — These medium-sized cells offer the perfect compromise between compact dimensions and reasonable capacity. The 2/3A form factor is widely recognised in the RC hobby and allows the pack to fit into spaces where larger cells would not fit, yet delivers more power than smaller cell types.
  • SBS-Flat Layout — The flat, side-by-side arrangement means the battery pack is incredibly compact and low-profile, making it suitable for installations where height or profile is restricted. This is particularly valuable in RC helicopters and small aircraft where every millimetre of space matters.
  • Rx-Jr Connector — The JR-style receiver connector (also known as Rx-Jr) is a universal standard in the RC hobby, ensuring plug-and-play compatibility with virtually all modern RC radio systems and receiver battery leads. This eliminates the need for adapters or soldering.
  • Lightweight at 85.5g — Keeping receiver battery weight to a minimum is crucial for maintaining the correct centre of gravity and flight characteristics in RC aircraft and helicopters. At just 85.5 grams, this pack adds minimal weight to your model.
  • Compact Dimensions — Measuring just 66 x 29 x 17mm, the Radient RDNBN1600S4JR is engineered to slot into battery compartments designed for receiver packs without requiring extensive modification or custom fitment.
  • NiMH Chemistry — Nickel metal hydride is a proven, robust battery chemistry that has been used reliably in RC applications for decades. NiMH batteries are forgiving of overcharging, resilient to storage conditions, and simple to maintain compared to lithium-based alternatives.
  • Age Recommendation 14+ — This battery is suitable for users aged 14 and upwards, reflecting its role as a receiver battery component rather than a primary power source requiring supervision.

Technical Performance

The Radient NiMH 4.8V 1600mAh receiver battery is engineered using high-quality 2/3A-sized cells that deliver consistent voltage output throughout the discharge cycle. NiMH cells provide exceptional reliability and durability, with the ability to withstand numerous charge-discharge cycles without significant capacity loss. The 4.8V nominal voltage is precisely calibrated for JR-style receiver systems and will maintain stable power delivery to your servos and receiver electronics throughout flight or operation. The flat SBS arrangement prevents the pack from protruding, allowing seamless integration into compact battery bays found in modern RC helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, and smaller RC vehicles. At 1600mAh, this capacity is sufficient to power a typical receiver and servo system for extended sessions, typically providing run times of 1-2 hours depending on servo usage and application. The Rx-Jr connector is soldered with professional-grade connections, ensuring reliable electrical contact and minimising voltage drop. The plastic casing protects the cells from mechanical damage while remaining lightweight, and the flexible flat pack design distributes weight evenly within the battery bay. This is exactly the type of receiver battery that UK RC enthusiasts rely upon for consistent, trouble-free operation in the field.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Radient NiMH 4.8V 1600mAh 2/3A SBS-Flat battery compatible with my RC radio system? — Yes, provided your RC model features a JR-style receiver connector and is designed for 4-cell (4.8V) receiver batteries, this pack will work as a plug-and-play replacement or upgrade. Check your radio system documentation to confirm the required voltage — if it specifies 4.8V or 4-cell NiMH, you're good to go. The universal Rx-Jr connector fits virtually all modern JR-branded radio systems and compatible aftermarket receivers.
  • How long will this battery last on a single charge? — Runtime depends entirely on how much your servos are used during operation. A typical RC helicopter or small aircraft receiver drawing minimal current might run for 1-2 hours, whilst models with heavy servo usage might see shorter runtimes. The 1600mAh capacity is substantial for receiver applications.
  • Can I use this battery with my LiPo charger? — No, you must use a charger specifically configured for NiMH batteries. LiPo chargers are designed for different charge profiles and will damage this NiMH pack. Use a charger with an NiMH setting — most quality RC chargers include this functionality.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. NiMH batteries are arguably the best choice for beginners because they are forgiving, durable, and require no special handling or storage conditions. Unlike LiPo batteries, they won't catch fire if over-charged, they're more resistant to over-discharging, and they're simple to maintain. If you're new to the RC hobby, an NiMH receiver battery is the sensible choice.
  • How does this compare to other receiver batteries? — The Radient pack offers excellent value and proven reliability. Compared to 5-cell (6V) packs, this 4-cell option is lighter and fits tighter spaces, making it ideal for helicopters and small aircraft. Compared to lithium-based receivers batteries, NiMH is more durable, more forgiving, and doesn't require specialist chargers or storage protocols. The flat SBS configuration is more compact than hump-pack or stick configurations, making this particularly valuable for space-constrained applications.
  • What does SBS-Flat mean? — SBS stands for Side-By-Side, indicating the cells are arranged next to each other rather than stacked. Flat simply means the overall pack profile is kept to a minimum height, creating a low-profile battery that fits into flat battery bays. This is the opposite of a hump pack, which protrudes above the top of the cells.
  • Can this battery be stored for long periods? — Yes, NiMH batteries are excellent for storage. Unlike LiPo batteries which should be stored at partial charge in a cool environment, NiMH packs can be stored fully charged or partially discharged without degradation. Store in a cool, dry place and you'll be able to use this battery months later without issues.
