Overview
The Traxxas Springs, Front (progressive, +10% rate, Pink) (2 pcs) TRX6863 are precision-engineered suspension tuning components designed specifically for the Traxxas Slash 4X4 short course truck. If you're serious about extracting maximum performance from your RC car UK setup, these progressive-rate springs represent a significant upgrade over standard suspension components. Traxxas has custom-wound these springs exclusively for the Slash 4X4 platform, ensuring perfect compatibility and optimal handling characteristics that you simply cannot achieve with generic alternatives.
The fully adjustable suspension system on the Slash 4X4 is already a competitive advantage, but these new progressive-rate tuning springs elevate your truck's performance to an entirely different level. Whether you're racing at your local track, bashing in the garden, or competing in organised events, spring selection is one of the most critical tuning variables in RC driving. With four different rates available—colour-coded for easy identification—you can fine-tune your truck's handling to suit your driving style, track conditions, and personal preferences. These pink springs represent the +10% stiffer option, making them ideal for drivers who want slightly firmer suspension response without going to the full 20% increase.
What makes these springs genuinely special is their progressive-rate design philosophy. Unlike traditional linear springs that offer the same resistance throughout their travel, progressive springs provide compliance for small bumps whilst maintaining support for big hits. This means your Slash 4X4 will soak up minor track imperfections and stay planted through rough terrain, whilst still maintaining adequate resistance during aggressive landings and high-speed cornering. If you're looking for ready to run RC trucks with truly adjustable suspension, the Slash 4X4 paired with these Traxxas springs gives you professional-grade tuning capabilities.
Key Features
- Progressive-rate design — Unlike standard linear springs, the progressive design allows the springs to be soft for small-bump compliance, meaning your truck absorbs minor track irregularities and obstacles smoothly, but then gradually increases in stiffness as the suspension compresses further, providing crucial support during big impacts and maintaining stability during aggressive driving.
- Custom-wound specifically for Slash 4X4 — These springs are engineered and manufactured exclusively for the Slash 4X4 platform, guaranteeing perfect fitment, optimal performance characteristics, and suspension geometry that works in harmony with your truck's chassis and suspension mounting points.
- +10% stiffer rating — Compared to the stock spring setup, these pink-coded springs offer 10% additional stiffness, providing noticeably firmer suspension response without the extreme characteristics of the 20% stiffer option, making them perfect for drivers seeking a balance between compliance and control.
- Durable powdercoated finish — The white powdercoat protects the steel spring material from corrosion, rust, and the wear-and-tear of regular use, ensuring your investment maintains its appearance and structural integrity through countless runs and seasons of RC driving.
- Colour-coded identification — The distinctive pink colour coding makes it immediately obvious which springs you're installing, eliminating confusion when swapping between different rates and making it simple to track which setup you're using for any given track or driving session.
- Available in pairs — Each purchase includes two springs in front length configuration, providing complete coverage for both front corners of your Slash 4X4 and ensuring matched, symmetrical suspension geometry.
- Four spring rates available — Traxxas offers orange (20% softer), green (10% softer), blue (20% stiffer), and pink (10% stiffer) options, giving you a complete suspension tuning toolkit to dial in the perfect setup for any condition or driving style.
Technical Performance
The engineering behind these Traxxas springs reflects decades of professional RC racing development. Spring rate is measured in the amount of force required to compress the spring a set distance, and progressive springs employ a sophisticated dual-rate design where the spring constant increases as compression increases. This is achieved through variable coil spacing or spring wire diameter variation, creating a spring that behaves softly initially but stiffens dramatically under load. For the Slash 4X4, this translates to a truck that can maintain lower ride height during normal driving whilst still providing adequate suspension travel and support for jumps, landings, and aggressive cornering. The white powdercoat finish is not merely cosmetic; it provides a protective barrier against moisture ingress, salt corrosion (particularly important in the UK climate), and general oxidation that would degrade bare steel springs over time. Installation note from verified users indicates these springs work particularly well with aftermarket big bore shock absorbers, though they also fit the standard Slash 4X4 shocks—though some users report a slightly tight initial fit that resolves once properly installed. The front springs are precisely matched in length and rate to the rear springs in their respective rates, maintaining the balanced handling characteristics that Traxxas suspension geometry is renowned for.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a progressive spring and why would I choose it over standard springs? — Progressive springs use a variable rate design where stiffness increases as the spring compresses further. This means they feel compliant and comfortable over small bumps, but then provide excellent support during large compressions. Standard linear springs offer the same resistance throughout their travel. Drivers choose progressive springs because they offer superior all-around performance: the comfort of a soft spring for normal driving combined with the support of a stiff spring for aggressive driving, without having to compromise on either characteristic.
- How do I know which spring rate to choose for my Slash 4X4? — Traxxas offers four rates: orange (20% softer), green (10% softer), blue (20% stiffer), and pink (10% stiffer). Start with the stock rate and experiment with one step in either direction depending on your preferences. If your truck feels too bouncy and undefined, try a stiffer rate like the pink springs. If it feels too harsh and loses traction, try a softer rate. Your track surface, driving style, and weight distribution all influence which rate feels best.
- Are these springs compatible with other RC trucks or just the Slash 4X4? — These springs are custom-wound specifically for the Traxxas Slash 4X4 and are not compatible with other truck models. The mounting points, spring perches, and suspension geometry are unique to the Slash 4X4, so attempting to fit them to other vehicles will result in poor fitment and unpredictable handling.
- Will these springs fit my Slash 4X4 with upgraded big bore shocks? — Yes, verified users confirm these springs work excellently with aftermarket big bore shock absorbers. Some users report the initial fit is slightly tight, but once properly installed they perform beautifully. Big bore shocks often pair particularly well with progressive springs as they provide additional damping control to complement the progressive spring characteristics.
- What is the difference between the pink, blue, green, and orange springs? — The pink springs (what you're purchasing) are 10% stiffer than stock, providing noticeably firmer suspension response. Blue springs are 20% stiffer for maximum stiffness. Green springs are 10% softer for a more compliant ride. Orange springs are 20% softer for maximum softness. Choose based on whether you want your suspension firmer or softer than the standard setup.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Spring rate selection is an intermediate-level tuning modification. Beginners should become comfortable driving their stock Slash 4X4 before experimenting with suspension tuning. However, once you understand basic driving techniques, trying different spring rates is an excellent learning experience that teaches you how suspension geometry affects handling.
- How long do RC springs typically last? — Quality steel springs like these Traxxas units are extremely durable and can last for many years of regular use. The powdercoat finish protects against corrosion. Springs may lose some rate over extended use if exposed to extreme temperatures or impacts, but they are generally among the most long-lived components on an RC vehicle.
