Technical Performance
The Associated CR12 Input Pinion Gear Shaft represents precision engineering focused on durability and reliability in demanding RC racing conditions. As a critical drivetrain component, the pinion gear shaft must withstand enormous rotational forces, instantaneous torque transfers and repetitive shock loads that occur during acceleration, cornering and braking. Associated manufactures this component to exacting tolerances using high-quality materials that resist wear, deformation and premature failure. The shaft's geometry, tooth profile and material composition are optimised to mesh perfectly with the spur gear, minimising friction losses whilst maximising power transmission efficiency. Whether you're running your CR12 on asphalt surfaces, packed dirt tracks or mixed terrain, this genuine replacement component ensures your drivetrain operates with the precision and reliability that Associated's reputation demands. Regular inspection and timely replacement of worn pinion gear shafts is essential maintenance practice for any serious RC car enthusiast in the UK who wants to maintain competitive performance and avoid unexpected mechanical failures during important races or events.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is an input pinion gear shaft and why do I need to replace it? — The input pinion gear shaft is a critical drivetrain component that transfers rotational power from your RC car's motor to the transmission system. During normal operation, this shaft experiences constant rotational forces, mesh friction with the spur gear, and impact loads during acceleration and deceleration. Over time, the teeth become worn, the shaft can develop micro-fractures, and material fatigue reduces efficiency. Replacing the pinion gear shaft with a genuine Associated part AS41008 restores precise mesh alignment, eliminates drivetrain slop, reduces power losses and maintains the smooth, predictable performance your CR12 is designed to deliver.
- Is this a genuine Associated part? — Yes, the AS41008 is an authentic OEM part manufactured by Associated. It carries the official barcode 784695410084 and comes with the assurance of genuine manufacturer quality and compatibility. When you purchase from RC Model Shop, you receive genuine parts backed by the manufacturer's specifications and engineering standards.
- What is the part number and how do I identify this is the correct spare for my CR12? — The part number is AS41008, which is Associated's official designation for the CR12 input pinion gear shaft. You should verify this against your CR12 model manual, which contains detailed part diagrams showing exactly where this component sits within your drivetrain assembly. If you're unsure whether this is the correct part for your specific CR12 variant, our experienced team at RC Model Shop is happy to help — simply contact us on 01543 577278 or WhatsApp us during business hours.
- How often should I replace the pinion gear shaft on my CR12? — The replacement interval depends on your usage patterns, driving intensity and maintenance habits. Competitive racers who run frequent high-speed sessions may need replacement every few months, whilst recreational drivers might extend intervals to 6-12 months. Inspect your pinion gear shaft regularly for visible tooth wear, discolouration or damage. If you notice grinding sounds, delayed acceleration response or increased drivetrain play, it's time to replace the shaft. Keeping a spare AS41008 on hand ensures you can get back on the track quickly without waiting for delivery.
- Can I install this myself or do I need professional help? — The AS41008 is a replacement component designed for straightforward installation as part of routine CR12 maintenance. However, proper installation requires careful attention to torque specifications, correct mesh alignment with the spur gear, and precise assembly sequencing. Always consult your official Associated CR12 model manual before attempting installation, as it contains detailed step-by-step instructions, part diagrams and critical torque values. If you're uncomfortable working on your own RC car, our team at RC Model Shop can provide advice or you may choose to have the work performed by an experienced RC technician.
